Posted September 7, 201015 yr if this is in the wrong section, please move/delete it.I've had my fi Q 12 for about 4 or 5 months now. I have an mtx amp which supposedly gives out 1200rms at 1 ohm but i only have kicker 4 ga running to it so i doubt its putting 1200rms out. the sub has recently started making weird rattling noises when played at about 5/8 to max volume. i hope its not blown out. the cone pushes down pretty easily. The noise it makes is like a car rattling noise but its coming directly from the speaker. any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
September 7, 201015 yr Loose dustcap? If it's the older q it could be tinsle slap. And how did you set your gains?
September 8, 201015 yr Author I've had my fi Q12 for about 7 months now. I woke up one day, started driving turned up the volume and all of a sudden a horrible rattling noise started playing. It's like a car rattling noise but coming directly from the speaker. I dont think the sub is blown. the cone pushes down just fine but I hate to play it loud cause it sounds so bad for the sub. I just took it out in case i need to send it in to get reconed. do you think ill need to do that? what do you think the problem is? thanks
September 8, 201015 yr Play it in free air and see if it still makes the sound... It may be your box???
September 8, 201015 yr settings, power, box size tuning, and I am going to guess you bottom the hell out of it and the former is probably damaged.
September 8, 201015 yr Author ya the wires are fine. when i played it in free air it sounded like the rattling sound was coming from inside the magnet.
September 8, 201015 yr Author 1200rms but i doubt its getting that seeing as i only have kicker 4 ga running to it and the big three upgrade. 2.5 cubic feet tuned to 32hz. god fuck getting drunk. i know i didnt drive but im sure one of my friends took my car and beat my sub up...
September 8, 201015 yr FYI, I merged all of your topics on this issue. Didn't want to lose posts already in each thread.
September 8, 201015 yr Author thank you KU40. how can I tell if the dust cap is loose? and its a 2009 i think. I got it right when the new ones came out Edited September 8, 201015 yr by [email protected]
September 8, 201015 yr thank you KU40. how can I tell if the dust cap is loose? and its a 2009 i think. I got it right when the new ones came out2009 i think is the older double stack magnet. The new ones are for 2010. An to tell if the dust cap is loose, just look for cracked glue around it's edges or anything that dosnt look right.
September 8, 201015 yr Hmm... My first thought it would be the box, is your box sealed and braced properly? If not it could be one of your boxes panel flexing and leaking.
September 8, 201015 yr Author actually it is the 2010. ill put it back in the box tomorrow and listen to the box for leaks and such. thanks a bunch for the help guys. one more question, could i send it in to fi for a diagnostic if i payed for shipping?
September 8, 201015 yr You can send it in to us..but you want to make sure something is broken before..otherwise you just lose a bunch of money in shipping for nothing.
September 8, 201015 yr Author yep you sure can, just email [email protected]What coil config do you have?dual 2 ohm
September 9, 201015 yr check the coils with a DMM. you could have ordered or been sent the wrong woofer so you could be wiring below your amplifier's rated resistance.
September 11, 201015 yr Yes, you can send it on in for us to check out. 2.5 tuned to 32 is fine, but make sure that your subsonic filter settings on your amp are around 29Hz too... otherwise it could lead to mechanical issues with over excursion below tuning.
