Posted October 4, 201014 yr Hey guys,Finally ordered my Q, 15" w Cooling+Spider... so pumped! but now I have a dilemmaI have ported box that is built to the specs of 3ft. cubed @33hz, but wanted to know if I will hear any audible difference by going to a 3.5cube @33hz? Is it worth it for the Q?Goals are just to have the loudest setup given my amp (1500d sundown), sub, and trunk spaceJust wanna know what, if anything, i would be missing out by keeping the box at 3 cubesthanks Edited October 4, 201014 yr by bimmerboy
October 5, 201014 yr Hmm. That's 1 cuft under recommended but with that power your throwing at it, it should make up for the smaller sized box. I don't think there will be a huge difference in sound.

October 5, 201014 yr 2.8 is probably for the people that can't fit anything higher. 4.0 cuft probably being optimal.
October 5, 201014 yr My box for my Q 15" is 3.0 after all displacement tuned to 30 hz. It sounds clean. I'm happy.

Either way, very nice driver.

Why don't people research?I should clarify, I want loud AND clear, not shooting for SPL numbers, esp with my limited enclosure space.... Q seems like a great match up, no?Just wanna make sure the enclosure isn't too small Edited October 5, 201014 yr by bimmerboy
October 5, 201014 yr Agreed BL would of been a MUCH better choice.Anyways Larger box = more output with lower power but you're more prone to mechanical failure.
October 5, 201014 yr The BL will sound great to your ears, and will take much more abuse. The Q is for a true sound quality setup.
October 5, 201014 yr Is your front stage active? Are you using any equalizers or time alignment functions? Is your vehicle sound deadened to the best degree? These are just a few things that go into a true SQ vehicle. (i honestly don't know more as I've never made it my goal)The BL or btl for that matter get loud, but just because they get loud doesn't mean they sound bad. Now put'm in a fart box and they'll be for spl only...The Q is an audiophiles dream come true.

And for the enclosure size, you should have at least gone with a 12" sub if you wanted to go ported or go sealed with a 15".
October 5, 201014 yr Author I guess I will see soon! I'm hoping the Q can deliver both loudness and crispness. I do realize it is an SQ oriented sub, but I want this to be a crisp, clear, and loud Daily setup...As for my front stage, I will be running an active setup via SAX50.4 and some Bravox CS60D components.Car will be dampened throughout the doors, floor, roof, trunk. Thanks for the input, hopefully I won't need to upgrade to the BL but you never know stay tuned!

October 6, 201014 yr To clarify, terminology is not your friend. Exactly the reason we spell this out in the noob posting guidelines. SQ is NOT for you. Counterproductive to your goals. Stating what you want to do is MUCH better than stating what you think you want to do by shoehorning terms you don't yet understand. The BL will sound golden to your ears, you have no need to buy a Q and in fact it is counterproductive to your actual goals.
