May 26, 201312 yr Author Really really nice build. Can't wait to hear your results Thanks man. If I'm lucky you may be able to see and hear it at Slamology.
May 26, 201312 yr Author ^ now that would be awesome! I'm tryin' hard brother, real hard, to make it happen this year.
July 6, 201312 yr Author Wow, I can't believe I've not been able to update this since before my birthday. I knew my opportunities to work on the enclosure have been slim but I didn't realize until I pulled this up just how long it's been. So, since my last update the engine got ruined by water. I ordered and recently received a Marshall reman engine and I'm working on getting the rest of the parts I need along with engine stand and hoist to get the old one pulled and the new one dropped in. As for the enclosure I had the opportunity to put a little body filler on the screws over the last month. Got some put on and sanded down prior to today but I got all that finished today. Now it's time to apply the primer. Here's a few pics of the body filler process. I'll get more up as the primer is applied.
July 6, 201312 yr yummy@!@!! looks smooth like a ..... let me stop .... yo nice work Alton! I forgot what's going in there? And what is that, birch?? sucks about the truck engine though.... gave you some time to plan the system though hopefully Wow, I can't believe I've not been able to update this since before my birthday. And what is that, birch?? sucks about the truck engine though.... gave you some time to plan the system though hopefully Yep it's Baltic Birch. I plan on covering it with bed liner after I paint the inside to match the paint on the truck. As for what's going in it, a single 10" XCON with a pair of 10" XCON matching passive radiators. No need to put more time into thinking about what else to do with it, I've over thought it already, lol. Pretty much all the rest of the build is already done. The only other thing there is to do after the enclosure is done is to install the Focal Solid 2 amp I bought for the tweeters to go active with the Clarion CZ702 doing the processing for the Bravox components. I've already done some testing and found the passive crossovers that came with them are causing issues. So I'm taking them active per Brad and Sean's recommendations.
July 6, 201312 yr Author box is looking good. Thanks man. If things stay slowed down like they are now it could very well be done in the next couple of weeks.
July 8, 201312 yr Author Another small update. Got the first coat of primer on today. Almost forgot to drill the hole for the speakon connector. Will do that tomorrow along with another coat of primer! That's it for today.
July 9, 201312 yr Author Such a work of art Thank you brother!! getting sessy! Thanks, slowly but surely. Looks good Thank you.
July 9, 201312 yr Author Alright, another update. Got some painting done today. I'm painting the inside of the enclosure to match the color of the Jimmy. I got the hole recessed and drilled for the speakon connector to sit flush like the sub/pr's too. First coat of color inside. Second coat of color inside. That's it for today!
July 10, 201312 yr Author Delicious Thanks brother! It will really get to looking yummy when the paint is all done and even. (looks a little crappy right now, lol)
July 10, 201312 yr Author Well, this could be the last update for the paint. Got the third coat on today and it's looking really damn good at this point. I'll have to let it sit and cure overnight but I'll know tomorrow if it needs another coat or not. Hell, may just do a fourth for the fun of it, lol. I've found that in spots it still looks thin that it seems to have more to do with the brush strokes and angle of the light at this point. Like I said, I'll know for sure tomorrow but if it's not done it's awful damn close! The paint is just about too damn dark for a picture this far away in the daylight, but here's a shot of the whole box again anyway just for giggles. That's it for today. If the painting is done all that's left is to lightly sand the primer to smooth it out and start putting on the bed liner!
July 13, 201312 yr Author The third coat of paint will be the last. When I looked at it this morning if looked perfect everywhere but a couple of really small places. Far too small to notice without really looking and there's no way they'll be noticeable through the plexi windows after the sub and PR's are mounted. The only thing I did with it today was sand the primer down smooth with 320 grit sand paper and covered the speakon connector, sub, and PR holes with tape to protect the paint when I go to apply the bed liner next week. Here's a few pics of the box getting ready for the bed liner. I don't think the difference in the surface of the primer is picked up by the camera. That's it until next week.
July 15, 201312 yr Author ALRIGHTY THEN!!! Got the first application of bedliner on the box!! Could be all it needs, the primer really helped, time will tell. If it doesn't need another application of bedliner, then it's done!! Or pretty much so, the only thing left would be to apply it to the bottom (really no biggie), remove the tape covering the mounting locations and remove the protective film from the plexi windows. If it needs another application then that's no biggie either, it wouldn't be much if it did. I can practically see the XCON mounted now! Onto a few pictures. Damn it, I gotta get the engine in the truck so I can listen to the sub!! LOL I gotta figure out how to get the Jimmy hauled to work. All the guys said they'd help me get it changed out so I need to take them up on the offer ASAP. Figured I'd toss this on just for fun. Brand new 2013 Honda MUV700 Big Red. We just got it for work to do stuff around the stations and on the right of way. Took it for a couple hour long break in ride and I gotta say it's one hell of a nice machine!
July 18, 201312 yr Wow Big Red. I haven't heard that name in a long time. Back in the early 80's honda had a sport ute 3 wheeler called Big Red. They had a 250 and 350 came out a few years later. I owned both and was a ton of fun when I was a kid.Box is looking great!
July 18, 201312 yr Author Aside from a few little touch ups, etc. the enclosure is DONE!!! Now, all I gotta do is mount the sub and PR's, get them PR's tuned and it's good to go and wait for the engine to get put in, lol.
