Posted October 20, 201014 yr I'm curious as to what difference I should except to see switching amps.Currently I have some shitty old soundstream amp, MAYBE giving my SSD 18" 300w. I'm not even sure on that. I'm going to be switching it out for a SAE-1000d. What kind of output difference should I be expecting ? I'm sure overall sound quality will be better, as my current amp is garbage.... But will there be more SPL ? That's what I'm curious about.
October 20, 201014 yr going from 300 to a 1000 is over double the power! you will see a lot more SPL out of the 1000 amp! be ready for an experience when you install the sae 1000d! loli used to be in your same spot! i went from 200 to 2000rms over night and wow! BIG BIG differences really make the sub(s) shine!

You're more than doubling the power so you SHOULD get some gains and have an audible difference. Only way to know for sure is to try it out and see.
October 20, 201014 yr Should be an audible difference as far as being louder, about the same SQ.Generally speaking it takes doubling the power to make an audible difference.
October 20, 201014 yr Install it and let us know , it should be beneficial or otherwise all amps would be rated at 300 watts.
October 20, 201014 yr Author Hahaha guess that does make sense. I'll hopefully be buying the amp soon. Can't wait for that, it's much needed
October 20, 201014 yr Which older Soundstream do you have? You will be able to tell the difference as you are more than doubling your power.

It's pretty old though. I believe its from the 90's or so, as it was used on some Rockford Power 10's from the 90's.
October 20, 201014 yr Author Lemme know what amp it is, I may be interested in it if it comes up for sale.I'll check it out. It doesn't even have a subsonic filter though lol.
October 21, 201014 yr 10*log(1000/300) = 5.2dbOfcourse that doesn't take things like power compression and other real-world issues into account, so don't expect a full 5db increase.

October 22, 201014 yr Depending on the model, that Soundstream could be a fantastic amp. Of the more than 10 amps I own, exactly one has a subsonic filter. I don't own any shitty amps either.
