Im trying to decide witch line driver to get for my system but I've never had one so irk were to start. Im thinking to go with the one rockford fosegate makes. Does any one have any experience. With it or one you think is better?

Exactly what I was going to ask.

If you aren't running roughly 4+ amplifiers off the same set of pre-amp outputs, you probably don't need one at all... One most newer H/U, the voltage drive is high enough and the output impedance is low enough, to drive almost any plausible load....

I perfer my Linear Power PA2 ... just my suggestion ...

I got a look at the DB Drive piece at the local stereo shop today, It looked Awesome, and was told it performs great. I've also seen the Audio Control piece in a few cars. They looked and performed great ... I think the info for these can ba found on their respective web sites ... again, just my suggestion ...

I would say db Drive as I have one, it was nice.

Friend of mine uses the Memphis Line Driver, it seems very solid.

I got a buddy who is using a rockford fosgate one but he doesn't use it now he just learned learned he had to turn his gains up a little more. he was worried that having the gains at about 1/2 way up was a bad idea but I told him not to worry about it because the gain isn't a volume knob it is the gain! lol

long story short he got rid of the line driver and he loves his setup now o he also learned how to set his EQ lol! good times!

i want to give my amp the most volts. that is a good thing right?

Not for all applications.

Amusingly you asked the right question. By using witch instead of which you implied the answer. You don't need the voodoo or unnecessary extra voltage associated with them. It is NOT a good idea to over volt your inputs. Instead just make sure you have a voltage output from your headunit that is within the range of the gain settings on your amp (hint pretty much ALL of them will do that).

Subjectively as always. On top of that Line Drivers are completely unnecessary unless your amps or inputs suck, so if you need them...

As Tommy Boy said, "You can get a good look at a butcher's ass by sticking your head up there. "

You sound like you know from experience bro ... had you head up any guy's rear end lately ?? Only one I've been close to is my wife for 15 years ...

The op was just asking for suggestions, You are being very rude in your statements. You sound like you are a smart guy, but your moderation skills suck ...

You are the only moderator that uses profanity on just about every post ... That prorfanity and the female on you signature just looks bad for SSA ... I don't see how you get away with it ...

Your funny.

The op was asking for suggestions on something that will give him no benefit to use therefore the recommendation is simple, none. Considering his topic title it was only fitting to point it out. Witch Voodoo/snake oil etc have no place in real audio.

Amusing that you take offense and have to then attack me, note I only go after the subject at hand and don't have some emotional response to it but you have to go and point out how you feel about my moderation skills.

As for the profanity that is a direct quote are you recommending that I edit it? Fuck that.

No, in 99.9% of cases it's completely unnecessary. We actually had this conversation in another thread. If you wish to know the reasons why it's unnecessary, please READ THIS THREAD (click me)

As M5 pointed out, in addition to being completely unnecessary in almost all situations anymore, it's also possible to over drive and clip the preamp input stage of the amplifier.....which is bad.

The only time anyone would need or benefit from a line driver is in the very few instances where there is a very specific "problem" that needs fixed.....and pretty much all of that is outlined in the above linked thread. And actually, introducing a line driver could be worse for the system overall if used when not absolutely necessary as it introduces the potential for additional noise and ground loops into the system.

I like the girl!

Only time I have seen a Line Driver actually make a difference was in my friends 2003 F-150.

He had a 2v Radio and 4 DD M3 amps in the truck. He added a Line Driver and it gained him a full db.

But I tribute that to being able to turn the gains down a little and clean the signal up allowing a better wave form.

Either those amps suck, or it was something else he changed at the same time.

Like not properly readjusting the gain, or atleast not adjusting it to a similar setting.....

They were properly adjusted, and amps are amazing.

If the gain was set to a point where the amp was not clipping and turning it down "cleaned up the signal" then the input stage of the amp sucks. It's really that simple. Noise floor has zero effect on the output level, so nothing was really improved by the addition of the line driver. The only real explanation was that the gains were not set correctly to begin with.

Both aren't possible. Pick one.

Sounds like he readjusted the gains to a different relative setting than they were at before.

You spelled which wrong...

Unless you want a witch line driver... But I've never heard of that.

But a line driver is pointless unless sorry headunit output and or 4 or more amps.
