Posted April 12, 201114 yr Hello, I am in a serious situation here. So, my buddy and I are into this car audio thing. (You'd have to be from Iowa to understand that its looked down upon.) So, he has his two SA-12's on a SAX-1200. And they hit. So, the main thing I was wondering, was what would basically give him a run for his money? I have considered 2 Fi SSD 15's, 2 SA-15's(out of the question, I don't wanna be the homo who copies him), and the main choice I'm complimenting at the moment is a single 15" on a SAX-1200. Possibly an Icon 15"? Any input is abliged. Thanks! -Austin
April 12, 201114 yr get a nightshade or Xcon.... Even a 10" of those would probably water down his setup... obviously need the right enclosure and electrical.... welcome to the forums!!!
April 12, 201114 yr Not following how you would be a homo if you had two sa15....A single 15 probably wouldn't be louder than two 12 assuming enclosure for both setups are optimal. Its all about enclosure efficiency, cone area and power. Maximize those three and you should be "loud".By the way two XCON 12" with 3k will knock your socks off. Two XCON 15" on 3k is nuts
April 12, 201114 yr Author I have a 1991 Chevy Caprice Classic. I already have the amp, and a 3.1cu dual 15" box. And I'm probably going to have to do an extra battery in the back, and I'm probably going to sell the box. I just like the cleanliness of a single-sub setup, but I love the bass of his 12's. I am just skeptical of the single sub ordeal, partly because I have never heard one. So, a Nightshade or an Xcon would do work? I have the trunk space.. lol. Thanks! P.S.- Thanks for the warm welcome!
April 12, 201114 yr If your wanting Sundown don't overlook the Z.v2. It's a great sub that can get very loud.Sundown or SSA your gonna have a great sub either way.
April 12, 201114 yr True... the Zv.2 would be crazy as well.... I think I want to get into the loud department and just have "nice" sound .... debating..
April 12, 201114 yr Author So if I have my buddy build me a box, either an Xcon or a Zv.2 12" or 15" would be "loud"? I just want something that will make people say, "turn that shot down".
April 12, 201114 yr Single sub setup and people saying "TURN THAT SHIT DOWN" ...you need a ported enclosure for sure.... and I think you might have to go with a 15" for sure.... But space is gonna be your enemy... Got a big trunk?
April 12, 201114 yr Nightshade v.2 or ZCON would be a better choice if your wanting SPL or irritating loud.
April 12, 201114 yr Nightshade v.2 or ZCON would be a better choice if your wanting SPL or irritating loud.Yes, ZCON... not yet available though.... But should be a beast.
April 12, 201114 yr Keep in mind the Z's tend to peak high where as the SA and XCON are good low end woofers. SA and XCON are very different and I am not comparing to each other.I have a single XCON 15 in a 4^3ft 32hz tuned enclosure. It moves serious air but isn't going to set any records. There are guys running four sa10's hitting high 140's. Another option you have that will fit in your trunk.
April 12, 201114 yr Author Yeah, I'm pretty sure I have the trunk space.. I'll post dimensions later tonight if that would help any. And yeah, I figured a 15'' for sure. I'd love to go with Sundown, but they seem pricey. On the other hand, I know that they make good products. I guess it's down to a toss-up between an Xcon 15'' and a Zv.2 15''. (Dual 1 or Dual 2?)
April 12, 201114 yr Dual 1 or dual 2 ? We need to know what amp will you use for the sub. A 1 Ohm stable amp : Dual 2 to play at 1 Ohm.A 2 Ohm stable amp only : dual 1 to play at 2 Ohms
April 12, 201114 yr You'll want to go with a D2 so you have the ability to wire down to 1 ohm and get the full potential out of that amplifier...
April 13, 201114 yr Author Well, I need an enclosure, a driver, wiring, and most likely a second battery. So I'll say $700 is the max for me.
April 13, 201114 yr I'd say go for the FI BL since it is just under $300 for the driver at base and with some add-ons about $320..... Enclosure could run you about $150+ depending on where you get it from or who builds it for you.... I'd advise at getting a battery up front as big as can be.... XS Power seems to be doing it's thing right now.. A good one is the D6500 which I think runs about $240... Wiring can be had for various prices depending on how well you hunt...
