May 12, 201114 yr Author went over my 1/2" roundover with the new 3/4" roundover bit.money shot!!!slopped some bondo on it, gotta get more tomorrow. wanna sand it down all smooth, no seams from the wood edges, no screw holes, nothing. then im most likely going to paint it black/really dark gray, thinking of using a textured paint, but a VERY thin texture, so its just barely noticeable.
May 12, 201114 yr nice work man! I love the trim piece Idea and I love using round-over bits they make everything look nice! I found when using my round-over bits if you do it in to separate cuts you don't get burns! so for example if your round over bit gives you a 0.5 rad, then the first cut should be 0.25 (quarter inch) deep then the final cut should be the other 0.25 deep! make sense, sure it takes long but the results are nicer! but what you did also looks great!
May 12, 201114 yr Looking great man!! Hope you are skinny enough to get the 15's in there still!!! Otherwise you will get stuck...
May 13, 201114 yr Author just hit the port with a little sanding. need some more sand paper, gonna try and get the port done this weekend. i dont have much time to work on it lol
June 8, 201114 yr Author well i've been laid off for almost a month now, so thats why progress halted.starting a new job next week making alot more money, so once i catch up on some bills, ill start finishing this up (didn't have money to be spending on fiberglass and stuff the last month)this didnt cost much for the paint, so i finished sanding it pretty good, and hit it with some texture. i put about 3 coats on, looks REALLY clean in person IMO. they didnt make it in any colors i liked, so i hit it with this, and then im using a gray hammered satin finish over it. it looks like it matches my suede pretty well, and i like it better than black.
June 9, 201114 yr Author One thick coat of the hammered finish on. I'll put another coat tonight when I get home. matches my suede pretty well.
June 13, 201114 yr The look of the port with that finish reminds me of textured ABS plastic. Great Work!!
