July 25, 201213 yr I don't think so sir. A recone to my knowledge only refers to the "soft parts" I.E. cone/cap/surround/voice coil.
July 25, 201213 yr Author Okay, I was just curious. I noticed the Icon uses a copper coil while the Xcon uses an aluminum coil.
July 25, 201213 yr Admin The reason why it can't work:- the gap is different- the coils are different - rear ward clearance is different- motor force is different- moving mass is different etc. etc.Essentially, the Xcon coil would slam into the back of the Icon back plate.
July 25, 201213 yr Author Alright, thank you for the information! Is there anyway to get an Icon recone with an aluminum coil? and would it make a difference? More power?
July 25, 201213 yr Admin Alright, thank you for the information! Is there anyway to get an Icon recone with an aluminum coil? and would it make a difference? More power? We used to offer an aluminum coil option, but with the all new motor design, the copper coil is quite good with it. There would need to be a slight suspension adjustment due to the different moving mass. Are you just looking for more thermal? I ask as the thermal limits went way up on the new Icon due to inheriting the method of cooling from it's big brother Xcon.
July 25, 201213 yr Author What do you mean by thermal limits? Like more power handling or cooling?I'm just trying to upgrade my system at the moment. I'm trying to get more power without buying a whole new sub. lol Edited July 25, 201213 yr by AgentTyler

July 25, 201213 yr Author I have an MB.Quart Onx1.1500d powering it. It's rated at 1500 rms at 1 ohm, which is what it's wired at. I doubt the amp is giving that power, but I would like to give it around 2k-2.5k.

I doubt the amp is giving that power, but I would like to give it around 2k-2.5k.2-2.5k is too much for the ICON. You more than likely wouldn't notice an increase in output anyway. If you want to get louder you'll need more cone area, or a 12 that can take a lot more power.
July 25, 201213 yr Author That's also why I was wondering if aluminum coils would help give it more power. But I've been thinking about saving up for an AQ 12" or even an FI BTL N2 12". Edited July 25, 201213 yr by AgentTyler
July 25, 201213 yr Author I got a design from RAM-Design. Here is what it looks like in Torres.I haven't really designed a box for myself yet, I'm still learning about box designing.
July 25, 201213 yr Author I am peaking around 37hz according to WinISD. I do know you cant always trust that because it doesn't know car accustics.
July 25, 201213 yr Author Any type of box that I design always comes out to peak around 37hz with the Icon. Is there a way to actually drop it down to 33hz?
July 25, 201213 yr Less port? might do it... Not too sure.. I've modeled my Xcon and with a bigger box the peak is lower only by like 2hz though so not worth the size difference to me...
July 25, 201213 yr Can you just tune lower? Like say tune to 30hz and see where it models for peak? I'd think that should murder the lows but you might need some fill-in with the speakers of your front stage as the subwoofer won't be reaching the higher frequencies as much....
July 25, 201213 yr Author That did drop it down to 33hz. How low can the Icon go? Could I go to about 29-30?
July 25, 201213 yr It can go however low you'd like .... Obviously you can't push it the same way as if it was tuned higher...Not sure what would happen to power handling or excursion issues? ... someone else may need to chime in there... But you have enough port area? Again someone else should chime in...
July 25, 201213 yr Yes, you can go that low. As long as your an advent user. Or just know how to use your senses lol. I don't see a problem with tuning that low. i wouldn't do it. But thats subjective matter.
