Any of your eastern or midwest USA guys ever notice

any db difference in the freezing winter months?

Id be interested to know any different readings

Ive always noticed bass sounds much better during the summer months

Bass is of course a sound wave that travels through the air. It is greatly influenced by the humidity and temperature.

Yeah, quieter in the winter out here near chi. my best guess, denser air since its cold, which negatively affects the sound waves.... but what do i know

everything effects DB levels ... to the ear.. mehh....

It think it also has to do with the suspension being cold and less compliant as well.

temperature change can alter the resonance of your vehicle by 1-2Hz.

i know the amount my truck flexes in the winter up here(-40 though 20) is severely less and it does seem a little quieter.

I seem to meter better in the cold

I've always thought I was louder when it was cold outside. Cold start = higher voltage = higher amperage. The alternator runs more efficiently when it's cooler outside as well. Keeping the voltage higher.

I don't care about the temperature, I just blast it and enjoy some low frequencies. Cold or hot weather, there is nothing I can do about that.

Probably why batteries say "Cold cranking amps @32 digrees" or something like that?

the cold cracking amps on a battery is LOWER when it is it cold....

We had show a few months back, everyone was .5 to 1.5db down from their scores in the summer time.

Well according to the article we should all give up on car audio like he did. What are we thinking guys? pshh

I have 2 Kenetic HC 2400 and one HC 1800 and my subs in temps around 20 degrees barely move and takes 15 min or so to soften up and produce normal bass output

I know for me the cold weather -15 to 25 degrees greatly effects how much my truck rattles on the inside, stiffens the surrounds which in turn makes the subs produce less sound and voltage is worse + goes down faster. When its above 25 or so its fairly clear and loud but anything under that it sounds pretty bad.

Plus if its under 0 degrees you for sure have to slowly turn up the bass in order to not crack your cones or even surrounds.

So in conclusion bass in Alaska doesn't work so well in the winter :/

I agree but I'm in Va

What happenes when the air is denser there is more air to move or harder to move the air. It can very in effect. maybe louder maybe quieter depends on the vehicle and the internal temp. i get more flex in the summer and a little bit higher numbers in the colder months. Your equipment works at best when the equipment itself is cold.  or cool. not frozen but just cool.

i noticed the 2 guys who said they meter higher in the cold are located

in tennessee. maybe your getting some of that southern humidity or

reflecting off the mountains.

it is interesting 2 me that air temperature and windows up/down,

makes a noticable difference in bass loudness and quality

im guessing that windows down is "louder" because your car turns into a port

instead of a sealed up ride.

i wonder with alot of watts (8k+), windows up or down dont really matter

i notice that my max volume that sounds good is 4-6 lower with windows up

i worry about my amps frosting internally and moisture developing when i warm up

i agree that electrical works better in the cold, heat = resistance

you guys ever notice the diff in the summer how the bass sounds b4 work

compared 2 after work?  humidity?

its no secret that car audio is most popular in california and florida

they probably enjoy it the most, lucky noobs

any SQ guys notice anything or have some special setup for the winter months?

some of the hoodlums i know totally unhook their subs in the winter

im from northern minnesota and i haven't done any db tests so far but from what ive seen, after 5 minutes of warming up the sub in -20 or so i get more output. MAKE SURE TO "WARM IT UP" as cant get anough said
