The formula used to calculate this rating uses the FS of the system as it's the point of greatest xmax.  High pass filter is not a concern as cone movement is reduced with higher frequencies.

Your referring to a Low pass filter.

 

I am talking about a "subsonic" filter.

you would use a subsonic filter as normal to limit unloading.

How would 2 of the 12s do with an 8 inch round port? Tuned in the low 30s.

ideally you would want a 9.7 inch diameter port for two 12s tuned to 30 hz.  However you may not "hear" any port noise.  If you have the space build a port with 75 square inches of surface area.
