Sound Deadening

Treatments for vibration control, noise mitigation or maximizing SPL

Is there any benifit do deadening an enclosure? I have thought about using a product called "green glue" sandwiched between two layers of mdf. It is intended for use between drywall and it is amazing! I used it in my condo and do not jear the neighbors at all anymore. It converts sound energy to heat and disperses it through the material. http://www.greengluecompany.com

Anyone tried this stuff? I probably should have asked before using it, but just curious if anyone else has and hearing opinions on it. I feel like its worked to some extent, but I also still have a fair amount of rattles. I know i need more of it to place on my inner panels, but my main focus has been on the trunk area. http://www.thermotec.com/products/14600-suppressor-acoustical-heat-control-mat.html http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004PILLZG/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

After fixing the trunk , had some leftover MLV and I suddenly had an idea of putting it in the rear wheel arch. If I can block the noise at the source, then it would be more efficient right? Removed the wheel arch liner and placed the MLV around 1/3 all the way from the bottom(see pics). What surprises me is that there is more drone than before. Help me understand this , how does placing a sound barrier on the wheel arch increase the drone, I can't wrap my head around that. It seems totally unrelated.

I want to completely deaden the inside of my vehicle with SSD's CLD, CCF, and MLV. Vehicle is a 2-door Jeep Wrangler 04' hardtop, the interior of a jeep has less plastic trim than most other vehicles... from the floor to the window line is sheet metal covered in a layer of carpet.... Will that make any difference in the approach I should take? The door panels have been glassed on the bottom to house 2 6.5's and a tweeter, and there is about 3/4" gap between the sheet metal and the inside of the door panel. I think 3/4" will be enough to get a layer of CLD, CCF, and MLV in there? One of my concerns is if I will be able to install the MLV and CCF on the ceiling, I don't wa…

I am very interested in this topic and after a google search I kept being redirected here, so i signed up. i read don's forst pinned post ashphalt vs sound deadener. i must say my opinion was the same as the examples "well it worked good till it fell off on the second hot day" and i was "that guy" saying stuff like "hey you can get that stuff from home depot" well i am willing to conceed and try a different aproach for this new project. my vehicle is a commercial truck, a 5 ton like a moving truck you probably see making deliveries in your city. i have no hood, it is a tilt cab so i sit directly overtop the engine and cooling fan. after a HP upgrade and a 2nd turbo charge…

  7. Hi need help from you guys who understands soundproofing and noise better. I've recently soundproofed the trunk and the floor pan of my VW passat. Used CAE equivalent of dynamat, CAE VB4.5 , 3M thinsulate. Firstly the road noise "seemed" louder but I'm guessing it is because I've brought the whole noise floor down too much and therefore accentuating road noise further. Secondly there seems to be pressure building up my ears and it's causing minor irritation whenever I drive. My guess is the deadening lowered the resonant frequency of the car panels too much causing it to resonate and drone. The drone is quite low frequency and it is not very audible. You c…

  8. So I think the next thing I want to do is reduce the rattle of my trunk due to my subwoofer. I put some foam and heavy duty tape between my license plate and the trunk, which stopped the rattle there easy enough. But I think most of the rattle in the trunk is from the top of the trunk. Seem to be a common issue? It is my understanding that adding sound deadening materials to the top of the trunk should reduce the rattle quite a bit, and potentially help increase the amount of bass I hear in the front? But also, wondering which sort of sound deadening material is decently priced and would do a good job? Trying to figure out cost of materials and types of things I…

can MLV be stacked to provide better results? for instance if one has 1/8" 1lbs per sq/ft can you put two layers on to get double or close to double the effectiveness? if so how should the sheets be orientated? front to front, back to back, or in the same direction? you couldn't glue it together right, because that would lessen its effectiveness? when installing into doors it should be affixed around the edge but left relatively free floating other than that, right? my understanding is if its rigidly stuck down that it will lessen its ability to absorb sound.

heys guys, so i just finished installing 36 sq feet of deadner in my car and it helped out tremendously. the anoying rattles i heard before are gone and even the ones on the outside for the most part. after installing it though it seems my subs do not hit as hard as they had before and i was wondering if anyone has had the same results as i did. i have a 2003 celica and i installed the deadner on the inside and outer door skins and did this all the way back into the trunk

http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_info.php?t=1&products_id=53 What do you guys think? I was going to use it to deaden the inside of my door panel and maybe on some bare metal areas too. If this isn't worth my time then what else can I spray/apply to the inside of my door panel to make it a little more solid?

Hello, I have a 2007 Mazda 3 with stock everything. Have yet to make a change but I'm planning on it in the future. My main problem is when i turn up the volume, my door panels rattle around a lot. This is one thing I hate about the car. The doors feel really light and cheap. Anyways, this is a stock system, no subwoofer, bass on h/u is on 0 but when i turn up the volume the speakers cause my door panels to rattle. What type of application would help stop all of this rattling? Do I just need to roll on some deadener on the door? Do I need to remount my speakers outside of the door panel? Just need a little advice to make this rattling stop. Thanks.

i got a khaotic enclosure and i was going to put it in my trunk, but it wouldnt fit, so now im putting it in the back passenger side seat. the box is vertical with the port above the front passenger's head rest. i took the passenger rear seat out, and im putting a wood barrier where the seat back used to be. not sure what kind of wood to use tho. then im mounting my 4 channel amp to the back of the wood barrier. was going to put MLVB on the barrier and then closed cell foam on top. then some more closed cell foam on the bottom of the seat where there is just metal now, so the box wont vibrate against it. so am i going the right way with this sound deadening? and also what…

  17. I've been working with sound deadeners for years. I've tried everything that wasn't a true sound deadener all the way up to Dynamat Extreme, RaamMat BXT and Second Skin over the years and have seen, read and tried all sorts of application theories. I'm getting ready to tear into my JImmy and have been trying to consider the best course of action where the doors are concerned. Like the way Don and Aaron worked on Aaron's car and used the SDS products for a complete and total noise control system is my end goal. I have gathered quite a bit of CLD and CCF for the install and when the funds become available I'll be purchasing the MLV I need to complete it. What I'm tryin…

Im looking for some advice on killing the rattle from my sliding sunroof cover. When it's slid open, it's ridiculously loud, but when it's closed, it's not bad at all. I'm planning on dropping the headliner to put some damplifier up there soon. Just don't want to go in blind and waste product.

I haven't done any sounddeading yet. the only really bad rattle you hear on my car are the sides mirrors. when i open the door they stop. would CLD on the doors stop this(i guess by preventing the vibration from reaching the mirrors) or is there any way to deaden the mirrors without seeing anything extra on them. they are the foldable mirrors by the way

  20. So I'm a complete newbie when it comes to sound deadening. I know of the materials used and such after reading on SDS and such years ago. I was recommended to just use CLD tiles when I queired don years ago, but as far as the process of applying it and using it properly I'm not very knowledgeable and have no experience. I've been running my SSD 18 for almost 4 years now without any sound deadening. However, I'm looking for the cheapest solution to my problem. My system is in my signature. I just added the two new amps to my build, and my sub is receiving a lot more power. More power = louder = more rattles. It's very unfortunate, and my cars an 89' so it's pretty easy t…

So I'm trying to sound deaden my moms 2009 or 10 (it's the newer body style) Honda CRV to kill road noise. She commutes 1-4 hours a day (mostly highway) and hates the road noise. This car is horrible! Ultimately she doesnt care about stereo or thermal insulation, she just wants a quieter ride. I was under the impression that the floor would make the biggest difference, so I used ~80 sq ft of damp pro on the entire floor, spare tire area, as high up on the firewall as I could get, and some on the back hatch. Also did the back quarterpanels I believe they are called (above the rear wheel wells) and stuffed the huge open cavities with several yards of fiberglass. The result…

Trunk rattle is probably the biggest issue for me as far as extraneous noise goes. This is probably true for quite a trunk-oriented bass setups out there. Anyways, I am trying to diagnose EXACTLY what is causing the noise. I have put padding in between the spoiler mounts and the trunk lid, so I am fairly certain it is not that spot. The license plate is padded and deadened, and the vibration continues even if it is removed. Now the back of the lid is hollow. could it be the panels rattling against each other? Would expanding foam in there solve this? The trunk is obviously padded against the weather stripping all the way around, so it seems unlikely that any of these spo…
