Now, I realized that an electrical outlet is a wicked idea as a speaker connect. It's made with heavy gauge copper, it accepts heavy guage wire, to be screwed down and it makes for a very easy connect, disconnect. I know that almost nobody would understand the concept of this, which is normal. I would like to hear reasons, people would not use this method of connecting speaker wire. I'm looking for facts, to show why an electrical outlet, is not as good as a regular speaker plate.

OK so I am new to the SSA forum. I have made my noob intro on the noob intro page already and now I am making my 1st official post. So, I have a new 2010 VW CC R-Line. It has the Premium 8 non-Dynaudio system. The system is mediocre at best. I really like the head unit however. I like the functions and the way it looks. So I want to keep that! The speakers have to go. There are two comp sets. I believe the front set is something like a 7" woofer and a 1" tweet. Rear is 6.5" woofer and 1" tweet. So basically any 6.5" comps will work. Mounting depth is good so anything 3" or less will work. I am getting this 5 channel Kenwood amp . Why? Because I like it's small footprint (…

So like it says. Where do you guys have your bass knobs? What sneaky spot in your car did you hide them? Do you have them in the open? Pictures would be awesome. Trying to get some ideas.

  4. Im not totally new to systems but i am fairly new to this site and ive looked at some of the forums. I have an s10 with an ex cab, and i was wanting a system that would hit hard but at the same time not sound really bad. From what i have read is that a BL is what im looking for, i was thinking 2 BL 12s in a ported box. Im not too sure on the amp or if those are the subs that i would want for sure. Some feedback would be pretty nice. its also been a while since ive hooked up a system if somebody could refresh my memory I do want about 2000 watts of power, and i dont want my lights dimming all the time like i had the problem in my car, i hear capacitors help with that but…

Scored these monsters for $200. They need some work because they were banged up in a move, but after some new cloth skirts, wood work, and paint these bad boys will be rockin. I'm sure they'll also need a wire rebuild kit from Magnepan, but from what I have read that is only about $50. It's going to take a while to get used to a pair of 60" tall speakers in the living room. The "IMP" on the rear plates designate these as an "Improved" version of the MG-1's. I hear if you use subwoofers in a dipole setup with magneplanars it is next to Godliness, so I'm doing the research on different dipole setups right now and trying to decide which one to use. I'm thinking black wood f…

So, I am getting ready to buy a box from a friend that is made for a 2008 F150 super crew (which is what i have)...however, the box is carpeted in a fuzzy gray carpeting and my interior is black. Is it ok to just rip the carpet off and recarpet it? Also, if I decided I didnt want to recarpet in black, is it ok to sand the parts of the box that you will see down some, apply some light layers of resin to harden it, sand it down and paint it? I have never done this, but I think it will give the nicest look. Thanks

  10. I am building a ported enclosure and am wondering how everyone paint their ports all the way to the back. I have thought about painting the port before i put the box together but i just wanted to make sure there wasn't a better way to do it. My port is pretty small, 2.5" to be exact, so I cannot reach my spray gun inside it.

  13. Hello guys, i still have my Mazda CX-5 with everything still in, and working ! I am looking for my next car, thinking about an hybrid one, like a Lexus HYBRID suv. Who has ever installed a system in one ? I don't know what those car can handle. I'm sure I must keep the hu, but can I run 2 amplifiers ? I want to keep the same kind of power I have now : one 2000 w bass amp, and 1 or 2 amp(s) for 4 active channels (mids and highs). I'd love some examples. Thanks in advance. Alain

I was going to get a DCON 12, ported around 30-32hz. I plan to run it off the bridged rear channels of a 4 channel amp. Was going to get the Crescendo 1000C4, but it doesnt have the option to use the HPF as a subsonic filter. Will it really be needed? I like to listen to Bass Mekanik and other artificial bass heavy stuff like that.

ok, i got my box built (5 cubes net @33hz), and now my subs aren't loud at all.it sounds like they're bottoming out on every song i play (i listen to mostly rap) the sq is horrible cause they bottom out non-stop, i think its the settings on my amp here they are: subsonic=20 bass eq= 1/2 up low pass=1/2 (out of 35-250 phase=90 deg. (what is this, and what is it for?) level (gain)= 1/4 way up..... is it my settings or what???i can't think of anything else unless its my box but i rechecked the math on it and it came out right....my port is 10x8, the calculator on carstereo.com i used said 21" long (20.97 btw), so i used end correction and took off 5", is this right?my port i…

So I dont have a whole lot of pics but here are some. I know other people have alot more. It was an ok turn out. Maybe 50 people, not too huge. Dan was on the grill making us adire heads food. Maybe 15 cars went on the TL mic. I hit a 133.5 at 37hz with 220 watts on a brahma 15 with the mic by the headrest and one window down in a temp set up until I get my sub amp. There were some sick installs there but I know other people will have pictures to post of them so I'm not even going to bother getting into them now. I dont know anyone else on this forum who was there, but more talk about the event can be seen at http://forum.soundillusions.net/showthread.php?t=38754 along wi…

Quick Question What is considered Mid Bass? To be more precise, the frequency range. I hear this usually when people put 8"s on their doors (which I plan to do), but I would like to have clear what exact range is mid bass. Im guessing 100-200hz?

I'm not asking for any practical purpose, or for any real world application. I've just NEVER seen this question asked, and after a bit of gin, I started to wonder, Are large amps, for example NS-1, IA80.1, AB1101.1, Stetsom 14k etc, you know, big ass amps, able to be run at 8ohm, 16ohm, and (never seen a speaker system run at this) 32ohm? I see no reason why you would considering the price to watt ratio, but could you safely?
