Crown Victorias have some pretty big trunks, i drive one. Heres a pictures Is there a way that i can place ONE piece of MDF and mount it somehow onto my trunk so i don't have to make a whole box. Its my car so i can use up that space however i want, place it anywhere in the trunk.( dont' have to worry about groceries etc.) I want to use 1 board, and the trunk itself to act as the rest of the box. Is that possible or will it be bad for my sub? Any help in this area will help, just bought a SSD 15. Or if you know any other simple ways to not have to go threw the trouble of making a box.

  4. So, explorers finally safetied.... Now i am going to start the box build. I plan on installing 2 15's for now, but 4 in total down the road. My question, would it be bad for the subs to oversize the box to leave room to cut in speaker openings down the road? The subs call for roughly 3.5 @ 33-35 hz, if i made the box like 12 cubes tuned to the proper frequency what effect would it have? How does the increased size effect the sound and response of the sub? Will their be any dangers in running a sub in an oversize inclosure for daily driving? Thanks in advance. Chris McDonald

Hi Guys, Hope you are all well and i aslo hope that some one can assist me with working out the correct spec for a true SPL box. please note I will only be doing SPL with this box. Ok so I have 18mm ply wood, 1 12inch subwoofer, 1 amplifier and 1 battery. Here's what i'd like to do Get a minimum of 151db's from this setup Equipment DD Z1a NSB 170 12v Targa TG301-DW The sub specs are as follows and i could be wrong because this is taken directly from the site. 12" COMP SUBWOOFER - DUAL 1 SPECIFICATIONS Fs (free air resonance): 48.7 Hz SPL (efficiency, 1W/1M): 89 dB Nominal Inpedance: 1/2 Ω Qts (total speaker "Q"): 0.606 Qes (electrical "Q"): 0.732 Qms (mechanical "Q"): 3.5…

Finally picked up a few sheets of MDF to play with to make my explorer box, what should the minimum port area be for 2 15inch RE SX's? So far i have messed around with the RE box tool and came up with a 6.1 Cube box tuned to 34.7hz with a port area of 74square inches. My available measurements seem to be 41 inches wide(before wheel well bumps), 18 inches deep, and i don't want to reach over 20 inches high on the height. If anyone can throw some suggestions at me for the area of port needed or maybe a box design they have used in their explorer it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  8. Big dilemma, trunk car im working with. I have 7.445 Cu Ft internal area for use if i fire up but the box will be removabable so i can grab my spare tire if i need to. Will up firing in a trunk lose me alot of spl or clarity? Which direction should i fire the port if im making this setup. Also for two RE SX 15's how much port area should be used? The port area is a very limiting factor as its robbing the little amount of area i have. The other way i can do is rear firing but i must make a two piece box to fit it in the trunk. The subs would only be 2 inches from the rear lid of the trunk. I gain .2 cu ft from switching but the amount of work would be substantial and i wou…

Is it cheaper to buy my own MDF and make a box than having professionals at a audio store do it? I plan on having a SA-12 and a box Ported tuned to about 32hz with about 1.7 cubic ft of space. I have the measurements and such. I used the re audio box calculator. I can get help from my woodshop teacher and some friends but I'm curious if it's cheaper. Idk how much they charge at the audio store but I'm sure it's not cheap. And another thing how good is birch over MDF? I can get birch free but everyone tells me MDF sounds better. Build would be musical and everyday driver not spl. Thanks guys can't wait to hear from you all.

I need help to build a box for one 12" Fi Q in the back of my regular cab GMC truck. I don't want to compromise sound quality and i do want it to get loud. What i was thinking of doing is fiberglassing the bottom floor behind the passenger seat where a box would normally go and use MDF for the front, sides and top. I 'm not the best at 'glassing, it works but isn't pretty. I'm trying to get there recommended size of 1.2 - 1.3 cubic feet. Any ideas to start??? If any one has any ideas please let me know i am open for suggestions. Thanks in advance I want to run a 12" Q and a Sundown Audio SAZ-1500D.

As far as sealed enclosures are concerned, I find myself to be pretty knowledgeable. When it comes to ported enclosures, thats a different story. Ive been reading quite a bit and tryin to find out how the fudge to make one - mainly the port itself and how you incorporate this with the rest of the box. When i look at ported boxes it looks likes a pucking maze and i havent the slightest clue how long to cut each piece of wood <-----thats just one of the many things im not educated on....I know about displacement and all that good stuff but still find myself extremely confused when it comes to ports....if anyone has a site i can go to and read up that would be appreciated…

My 15 will be here today, and ive spent the last week drawing up designs but before i commit to any, does anyone have a more accurate box calc than Re.com? My friend used it and his came out nearly a 1/4 cubic foot bigger and tuned like 4~hz higher than what re box calc told him.

I'll be building a new box this weekend for my new Xcon 12. I have seen quite a few boxes with black carpet and white ports lately, and I really do like how they look. So I was gonna try one myself. Parts Express has some black carpet. One has a latex backing and the other one doesn't. Is there a plus to one over the other? Should I be looking else where for carpet? What have you guys used? I've never done carpet, just textured paint, and want something differant. I am just unsure what to get. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Tony Nelson

ok so one night i was sitting around thinking up some new box ideas. i really want to have my sub facing forward into the cab of my car, and have the port be on top of the subwoofer. so i was doing some concepting and came up with this, Pdf of box idea. I just want to know if it will work before i start building i forgot to put notes so.... notes: 1. double baffle front plate 2. round port edges 3. 2.8 ^3 feet of airspace after all displacement 4. 3/4" mdf or particle board used. its going to be firing forward with the trunk sealed from the cabin. thanks, Anton Miller

Okay guys hope this is in the right spot! I didnt want to post this in the fabricators thread but anyways here we go. I'm wanting to purchase a box design for 2 12 L7's. The only dimensions that matter is I dont want it over 20 inches tall and over 48 inches wide and 16 deep. I dont want to do a basic slot port or aero tuned port. I'd rather do a TL or something of the sort. All I want to purchase is the design not the box guys. Something cool and out of the ordinary. Thanks in advance guys!
