I have a FI SSD 15. (bp power, flat coil) I currently have it in a 18x18x38 box tuned to 34-36hz somewhere in there. aprox 4 cubes. Im thinking of building a new box, what should i tune it to, and how many cubes? i find my box has a slight bit of port noise because there are no 45s and it doesnt go as quite low as i want it to. Iv heard other ssd 15's hit harder than mine, so im trying to squeeze every thing i can out of the sub. also with the box the way it is now, what should my Amp be set at? Lowpass and subsonic? If it matters: its going in a crew cab GMC, powered by a AQ1200. thanks, in advance all help is appreciated

The SQ of the Qs are great but I want to know want the size and specs of a box that would maximize the dbs on daily music. I would think that the max ported box specs at 32hz would do that but would a smaller box be louder? And I know its "install dependent" but just want to see what others say.

Ill have a FI 18 Q here tomarrow , it calls for 6 to 10 cuft box . I have a 94 gmc sonoma ext cab , there will be no back seats . Ill mounts the amps in the back of the seats and one on the roof for the 32 clarion i have ( going in the bed ) . Ive measured out the the box to take up the back 53/23/25 and it comes out to 17 + cuft . What will be the con's or pro's of a box bigger than called for ?

im trying to design a box for 4 sa-12's and i want to make sure its not too big. its 8.5 cubes after all displacements with 108 sq inches of port area. ill be powering the subs with an AQ2200D so each sub will see roughly 550 watts, which is why i made the box slightly bigger then normal, i just wanted to know if you guys think this sounds ok. ohh and it will be tuned to 32hz

I recently took my two 12's and put them in a prefab box built to hold two subs. Its a camaro box so it's wierd. I put them in that box because I had two single boxes for the subs and one was leaking real bad. Anyway, MY question is, how come they hit harder in the two single boxes than they do in the dual box? I think it might be because the box is too big. So is there anyway I can fix that? I seen a box another person had and he had it stuffed somewhat with newspaper? Would that help the subs hit harder in the dual box? Thanks ~MadroX

So I am thinking of venturing into unknown territory and build my first ported box. I have been doing a little research but am still learning. As I understand it, frequencies below the tuning of the box can cause the driver to "unload" which can cause damage. I am not 100% sure what that means, but I digress. I have read more than a few threads that say they tuned their box to 32 Hz and then go on to say that the low-end is amazing. Now I listen to mostly rap music, and it seems like to me that there are a lot of songs with frequencies below 32 Hz. There are a couple low notes in Jeezy's "Hypnotize" for example that I am guessing dip below 32 Hz. How is it that the box ca…

i've been making and tweaking a box calculator the last few months. it's come along nicely i'd say. it's been over on *** (i'm ExpoSport over there...and if it's possible to change this name to ExpoSport me love you long time so after getting it tweaked to a good point i figured i'd share it elsewhere now. one thing that is still in the works is an open/save feature so you can save designs instead of printing or writing them down everytime. this is mainly for square/slot ports. plain boxes will be easier to do, but if you build a box in the car for example, you'd need to figure out the volume on your own and then fill the boxes in accordingly to get that volume, and then…

Well, here's the deal. I'm going to be building a box for 2 Fi Bl 18's. I figured up the box will be 11.27 cubes before displacement, which is about 10.81 cubes after sub displacement. I figured that I will have 158 sq. inches of port area total. The question I have is, since I want to tune the box to 34hz, how long do I make the port? The port will be 44.5" wide, and 3.55" tall (inside measurements).

currently running a sundown saz1500 powering a fully loaded 12in fi bl in a 2.5 cu ft box tuned to 34 hz. I was recently at a local audio shop and had the main guy set my gains properly so i did no have any clipping. I was not very impressed with the outcome. As i come to find i had been running with clipping since day one and my system is now quieter. He told me to tune my box to 40-42hz and it would be louder. My question is how much louder? and will i still be able to play most rap music? What would be the lowest tone i could safely play?

So I ordered a BTL 18 today, and I think I'm going to base my enclosure off the one for the XCON optimal one thats here on the site. It says that box is tuned for 30 hz. Fi recommends tuning to 32 hz for the BTL. I don't really figure that the 2 hz will make that much of a difference, but I could be wrong. What I'm planning on doing is putting the port on the other side of the box, so that the driver would be facing up towards the roof of the vehicle, and the port would be facing forwards, toward the front of the vehicle. My question is will putting the port on the wider side of the box, (25.25 in. vs 22 in.) put me closer or farther away from the 32 hz? Also, I'm plannin…

So I had a box design done by someone that seems to be a reputable designer around the car audio forums, and I have a couple of questions about it. I have a FI BTL N2 12" D2 running on a SAZ-1500, 250amp alt, 0 ga wire throughout including big 3 and additional grounds throughout the engine compartment, XS Power d975 in the back, Optima yellow top up front. The design he gave me has a net volume of 4 cubes. Is that too big for that one sub? I told him I wanted a daily ground pounder that can kill some lows. Well it does destroy the low notes, but it seems to be pretty weak with the majority of rap/hip-hop songs, and doesn't sound real strong on rock or metal. I know the …

  18. I have a 95 extended cab Silverado that I want to put a decent sounding system in. Nothing radical, just decent. The enclosure will be going under the back seat and the best i can figure I will only have ~2 cu ft to work with. The box could be 60"+ long but only ~14" deep and 4"(back) x9"(front) tall with a considerable section (21") that would be much more shallow across the hump. I was pretty discouraged when i measured my dimensions. I don't think i can raise the seat as it's mounted to the sides of the cab. My options are wide open. I am willing to do anything from 8s to a single 12" (doubtful). I'm not sure I can make a ported design work but I guess it's possible.…

I have a couple measurements... 41w x 34d x 34h That's the external (gross) measurements. I plan on tuning it around 30hz. I was also wondering where to put the port. This will be my semi daily driver (I have 2 vehicles), and I am not looking to hit any high numbers. I want this thing to get loud and low. Also any kind of tips/pictures/diagrams/explanations/ect. for a wall and dancefloor would be greatly appreciated. And yes, I have put some effort into this by reaching out and contacting many people so please do not respond in here if I have already …

I've thought about doing this and recently seen someone actually use this method but never commented on how good it was. In instances where all-thread cannot be used.. how about running those flat steel bars that Lowes sells on the inside of the box? Those are humanly unbendable.... it's steel. I was thinking about running those, gluing them to the box, drill out contact points, maybe 1 every 12", run bolt through to the outside, threadlock it and use a large washer on the outside of the box with a nut of course. Seal around the steel bar. These bars, if i am not mistaken, are only like 1\8th" thick. Shouldnt' that make the wall it is attached to hella strong? I see n…

well since i put in the 2 15" BL's on the sundown 3000d, i have NO windshield flex, a little roof flex which is no biggie, but the worst is the doors...the body panels are so thin and theres just a single support bar inside it, which flexs with it against the body panel. i put Great stuff foam and peel & seal. i know peel and seal isnt real deadener, but ive used it before and itll deaden sound for sure, maybe not as good but itll do the job. well it did hardly nothing. what would solve it is fill the whole door with expanding foam but that isnt an option, becuase i obviously need the windows to go up and down. any ideas? pics of my door panels should be in the wall t…

If i where planning on useing external ports for my SPL set up (probably a pair of 6") to decrease cancelation and turbulance would it still be a good idea toconjure up some type of brace for the port? i would assume so but im not 100% sure. Keep in mind i want to easily be able to change the length of the port not only for trial and error testing to get the highest score but also so i can give it a daily tuning for the ride too and from the competitions and so i dont have to lug the Ava out of and into my truck every other weekend.
