Wanted to get a few opinions on what you think is better for a spl box, slot port or areo ports?

I was bored so I went & picked up 2 12s from a flea market this past weekend to experiment with. Made my first box throughout this week & tuned it to 32hz. If I wanted to tune it to 30hz would I add or cut off some wood to the end of the ports behind the subs? I can do the math but need a starting point. Also another separate question, would more port area equal a lower tuning or does it depend on the box?

  3. So if you looked at my build log then maybe you can get an idea. If not then to fill you in i have a RE SX-12 in a ported box 2.0^3 at 35hz and after setting gains i am just let down by the lack of serious bump. I'm looking for a recommendation on to what route I should go to get more bump from my back seat area. It's a convertible and it's been said that a smaller enclosure may assist my needs. I have a pair of alpine type-r 12's gaining dust that would be good for a smaller enclosure if that helps any. Anyhow thanks fellas.

  9. The box is for a pair of DC Level 4 18's in the back of a 2007 Suburban with all seats in, including the third row.I have the following for outer dimensions to work with: 27 x 49 x27 Now my drawing shows a height of 26 1/2, but I'm only counting the height at 25 3/4 in the Box Calc program because the top board was double baffled. I'm seeing a box tuning at 33hz. Here is my other design, this one is pretty much the same as the first except for both subs and port firing up. What do you guys think? Box Design: I think I still like the whole port and subs up design better. My current box is a dual chambered double slot ported box. Each chambered tunned to 32hz. Has anyone…

  11. hey guys one of my buddies says a nice cheap effective meathod for sound deadening is resisto found in roofing sections in homehardware stores... apparently its not as good as the top dynamat or raammat but he says its pretty much the same stuff as fatmat which is cement based (not Butyl). can anyone confirm? i would be real interested to use this stuff (if it works) on my trunk lid and a bit of the back of my trunk to stop trunk raddling. thx -phil

Currently running 2 HDS 215s (600rms, 15 inch) subwoofers in the back seat of a mustang convertible. Not much of an improvement over my previous Sundown E-12s. The problem I believe is the box. being obviously small to fit back there. Around 2 cubes per sub. Would I be better off getting a new box to put back there, say the QBOMB15VL where there is 3.85 cubes (4.2 total) for A SINGLE 15 rather than my 2 15s now. Also found on ebay a 4.0 box (5.33 total) tuned at 32hz. Also I could upgrade the subwoofer to something that can take my 1700rms amp better. Any help appreciated.

So I'm installing a Xcon 12" and was wondering what would be the best placement of the sub and port? Size of the box and tuning? Or if I should so sealed and ported? If ported what type of port? It is going in a 01 eclipce hatchback!

I recently purchased an A.P. Axis 15 and was suggested to make this box. Box is to be 3.0 cu. ft. net and to use 4 - 4" pvc ports. Because of box dimensions I'm not able to use flare ports so this is gonna be straight 4" pvc. I'm told the beauty of this type of box it the ability to change tuning and also seal up the box using plumbing inside pipe plugs. A ported and sealed box combination. My concerns is port noise. When I brought this up I was told that I would not have that much and that I would certianly not hear it while playing normal music, just on bass tracks. Is this accurate information? I think this box concept is great but if it's so great why isn't …

Alright, so only 10 days after i built my first box iv decided that its no good an i need to build a new one. Currently i have my box only 5.5 cubes for my 18" BTL.. with it only being powered by 1500 watts this isnt the most efficient setup. For my new box, i was going to build it closer to 7.5 cubes, sub up, port up. Now what i wanted to do was have the port 5-6 inches out of the box so that i could flush mount it to the rear deck, then seal the whole thing off from the trunk. The box designer says for 32hz my port will be 28.75" long, 8.5" wide and 13.5" tall. Now could i simply 'slide' the port out 5-6 inches or would that effect the tuning? Sorry if thats a bit…

  18. Just finished my new install, a 12" xcon in a 2.75ft^3 box tuned to 31hz. This is in the trunk of my 96 Accord. I listen with the seat down so the sub and port are firing into the cabin. All my boxes and setups have taught me that each setup is very different and showcase different songs better than others. The "show off" songs that sound awesome on the previous setup don't usually sound as good when you change things. I get that and accept that, but now I have a new issue. So after I got my xcon playing I was setting the gains and playing around with different songs and was not super impressed, it was loud but I knew it should be louder. so I popped the trunk to go bac…

It seems to me like BL (typically measured in Tesla meters) would be a good indicator of motor performance and overall subwoofer ability. With that said, I am supprised that numerous woofers that people commonly call, good strong subs have a fairly low BL in comp to other subs. Subjectively strong subs (by overall consumer babble) Image Dynamics IDMax Bl about 10 Jl Audio W7 series BL about 10 MTX 9500 series BL about 10-20 depending on model SS RL-P BL over 20 So is the SS motor twice as strong as a motor rated at 10TM, or am I completely off base. How do BL and RE interact, it seems that BL would be a constant bc its …

Im thinking of wallin my truck (2000 gmc Sierra ext cab) and dropping another death penalty in there. But I have some questions. What is the best side for the body or dead center? Also would the area around it have to be completely sealed or can there be gaps along the sides behind a beauty panel? Do I double the port area? And will this affect sound quality?

Can anyone link me to something to read? i wanna do 18s in my cut through but the box is going to have to be bandpass as my opening is only about 10x40. and i dont want someone to just design me one. i wanna know why the sealed chamber has to be this big and why the ported chamber has to that big and how to tune them and what not. i know its not an easy thing to grasp but you had to start somewhere... how are you guys designing them?

i hope this is the right section butt.... Im still a nexb to box building and I want to make a ported box. It will house two sound splinter Rl-p 12s. I still need to find an amp so i dunno the exact wattage ill be giving them, but i want to give them like 600-800 a piece so thatd be 1200-1600 total. I want kind of an LSQ tuning so would 34hz be alright? (thats what the site suggests) If not then just tell me what you guys would think the best LSQ tuning would be. Then how do I figure out the dims of the slot port once i kno what hz i want??
