So I have heard to get optimum spl out of my box and best proforance out of my sub I would have to find the resonant frequency of my car. So I fired up the SSA forum seachers and i didn't come across so I imediatly fired up the google machine and did some seaching and here is my findings: I can use math by: Now you measure the distance from the cone to the meter(the whole path it takes). remember the soundwave comes out of the front of the cone at 90 degress(straight) and out the back at 180. once you get the distance from the cone to the meter placement in inches, you divide that into 13,560. you will probobly get a high number, which is suspected. Since its 90 degrees, …

On the Termlab im hitting a 144.3 sealed up at the dash with a sweep. its in a trunked cavalier. i just want to know if i can get that score a little bit higher? would holding the trunk lid, sunroof, or doors down during a run help? would more room for air to get into the cabin help? does subwoofer box placement help, meaning how far away from the trunk lid it is, also how about rear seat folded down half way help? how about front seat positions? kind of just trying to get as much of an edge as i can. with the 144.3 run it was all set up for daily driving, not much tuning done at all, as in i didnt play with box position, or seat position or anything like that. i just k…

hey guys, this is probably a noob question, but i have an 18" fi q in my car with the bp option. i have it hooked up to a hifonics 1610 1600watts rms, i am running about 1200 (i set it with a dmm). its in a 6.3 cubic foot box after displacement, and its tuned to 31 hz. my question is, why is it that when my doors are open it sounds alot louder than with the door shut. opening the windows helps when im driving, but its getting cold and i wasnt sure if there was anything i could do to make it loud with the doors and windows shut. any help would b great. thanx.

What do you guys think of the design? Its for a DC lvl 4 12'' sub How would I factor in a kerfed port to the design??? If the kerf is secured as an external portion of the port, will it affect tuning or require a change in design anywhere? Specs come to: -2 cubic feet before subs displacement -32.5hz tuning -36.25 sq inches of port area

  9. Im pretty sure Ive seen this before. wondering how the port length is calculated. say the port opening is 3.75x13, Id assume when it splits Id make each continuance of the port 1.875x13. do I measure the length of the first part before it splits, and add to it the length of the part after the split to get the overall length. do I calculate the length as if I were running 2 1.875x13 ports, or a single 3.75x13 port. with the box volume and tuning I was using, they were very similar, 29.6 for one and 28.92 for the other scenario, so either one would end up close enough, but Id like the know the correct way. if either of these are correct.

I have decided to go with Selenium ST350 Super Tweeter, and Selenium 6W4P 6" woofer. I will be running thes active and have a copule of questions about them. First question: one being will it sound ok to mount the woofer in the stock door, and the tweeter in the stock dash. I will have to modify the dash a little bit, since the hole right now is 4", and mounting of the tweeter is 4.25". Will it sound good with it located up there? Next question: Since this is my first active setup, I dont want it to sound like shit. So, how do you guys block the mid sound from going to your tweeters? and stop the real lows and real higs from going to the mids? I will be running a MB Qua…

here is a pic of my trunk: I have a 12'' DC lvl 4 sub. I drive a sedan. I like to listen to a lot of pop rock // pop punk // metal music, some have fast bass drums//guitars I think I'm going to go with some type of ported box, which should I go with? a slotted, vented, ported, or what? Can anyone help me design a box for my subs? I also don't know which way to port it, towards the trunk? I'd like to have the box toward the side of the trunk, so I can still fold down the back seat and access the trunk.

Looking for ideas based on experience! My shop has a 1998 Chevy extended cab being used for SPL competing in USACI Modified. We will be using four AddictiveAudio V4 15" woofers with roughly 12,000 watts rms. My question is how should the enclosure be built for max spl? Just looking for ideas here.. we are stuck at 157.6 db on the term-lab at drivers kickpanel.

I have a question about ports. I am having finely decided to use round ports. But I have a problem; I have 8.89ft3 I want to tune around 38 Hz. The problem I run into is I need like 15’’ of port. The box is only 14’’ deep, going with 2 8’’ ports. So, can I bend the port with a 45? So it will make it in to the car with out a problem. If yes, do I have to add any thing to the length, or do I just cut the tube where it needs to be and add the 45 in between the cut peaces. Trunk setup subs up, port up going thought the rear deck.

okay, so I drive a 1995 honda prelude. I just got my nightshade 12 about two weeks ago =], I am running it with the saz 1500, I have also done my big three. I feel my nightshade isn't at the full potential but, it could just be my box. Off the top of my head I can not tell you my demension, all I can tell you is that its 2cuft at 33hz. I am planning on building another box very soon. I would like to know what input anyone has on they're 12" nightshade and there boxes and how they sound, also anyone with a prelude and where the have there sub mounted and the port faceing. Thanks, Jordan

I am trying to plan how I am going to build a box to go in the ex cab of my toyota truck. I am putting 2 Fi Q15's in it. The space I have to work with is 53'' wide 17'' depth and 22'' tall. I was told to use 1 layer of 3/4'' MDF then after the box is done add a 2nd layer of 3/4'' MDF to the outside of the box to help reinforce it, is this right? This is the first box I have build so I just wanna make sure I get it right. But this is what I have come up with so far, how does is this right, the subs call for about 4 cub feet each tuned to around 33.

I have a 99 Siverado 3 door. What I want to do is take back seat out and build a box for subs so they will be behind driver seat stacked on top of each other. Take back seat and get cut so I will still have a half seat back there. No one in my area wants to deal with it. Is this a good idea? I just want my trunk to be able to carry 3 people instead of just 2. Would a ported box still be okay on one side of truck?
