first off i am not mister know it all so please bare with i do know a lot but will see . but any ways what is it with resonant tuning frequency? would it be better to tune low as possible for like a t line and get a higher score? unless your talking frequency length. the lower in the octave you got the hard the bass hits right ??? with in reason of course like the sub dropping off and just can't play well at 18 hz were it plays better at 47 Hz etc etc ... because the music energy is reaching the mic at it full potential of 47Hz if you tune to high the spl drops off again so you lose power in the spl right??? so why would you look for a resonant frequency like 18 hert…

  2. ok so i really dont trust most of the box calcs. online so i've been researching formulas and anything i need to know about designing on my own. so anyone with advice please put in your two cents..... tell me if i got this much figured out: 1). to come up with the ft^3 of the box you multiply length x width x height using the inner dimensions. then take the total of that and divide by 1728 which is the in^3 of 1 cubic ft. 2). then to factor in port, bracing, and driver displacement you use the L x W x H on each item and subtract it from the ft^3 3). for box's with a slanted front. for example the top is 5" and the bottom is 15" you find the average of them by adding them…

  3. This is going in an RX8. Looking for a fairly good ground pounder with the ability to upgrade to 4 SA8's in the near future. Not sure This design has enough port area. Don't do too many ported boxes and would like to make sure before I waste the time building. Will be powered by a Sundown 2000D. Link to pic of enclosure I had worked up.:

Im thinking of wallin my truck (2000 gmc Sierra ext cab) and dropping another death penalty in there. But I have some questions. What is the best side for the body or dead center? Also would the area around it have to be completely sealed or can there be gaps along the sides behind a beauty panel? Do I double the port area? And will this affect sound quality?

The Effects of Cabin Gain in Car Audio Have you ever wondered why car audio systems can have so much bass as compared to a home stereo system? The reason has to do with space. Your home has a lot of it and your car audio system doesn't. Because there is so little space in a car the bass notes (which are long waves) build up inside the passenger area. To calculate the length of a sound wave you divide the speed of sound (in feet per second) by the frequency. At sea level, the speed of sound is approximately 1,127 ft/sec. For example, a 40 Hz note has a wavelength of approximately 28 ft (at sea level). (speed of sound)/(frequency) = wavelength OR (1,127 ft/sec)/(40Hz) = 28.…

I have 2 sd1v2 10" running on a 1000d. I like the sd1v2s and all but want a little more. Anyone experienced Kicker CVTs. If so will they hit harder than these sundowns? The sd1v2s are sq's, are the CVT's straight SPLs?

2 part question, lol. 1). I'll be getting an '05 Chevy crewcab next week sometime, and I was wondering if it's possible to get 2.5 cubes anywhere from behind/under the rear seat? 2). If not, I may consider a blow through. The problem is I dont want to cut a big hole. What effect on tuning would building a box like this? Thx for any/all help you guys can give.

well its that time of year again, when i have some money comin in. Hopefully this will be finished up in the next few months. its goin in my 84 cutlass. 2 Mach 5 MJ-18, off of a AQ 1200. the box is 10.97 cubes @ 34 hz, and 175 sq. inches of port. the bracing in the pics isnt what its actually gonna be like, i got in a hurry and just threw it in, ill be glassin the inside and usin thread rod. the corners will also have 45's. oh and its out of 1'' mdf. Comments or suggestions appreciated. demensions are 42 wide, 29 tall and 24 deep. It seems that a box that big with that much port would have horrible port noise, but supprising in the car none of my boxes have have ve…

im would like to know if port are is THAT important. freind of mine has a BL 12, he wants to buy a box that another friend built, but the port area is under 12 sq inches per cube. the sub that was in the box before sounded pretty good. just wondering if the port are being a lil small is restricting output or SQ in any noticeable way. its off by like 8 sq inches. thanks

Alright, I am wanting to wait till i get a new vehicle to do a wall. (Still debating). I'd like to use two fifteens in my trunk, Thinking either AudioQue HDC3's, Fi BL's, or maybe some DC Level 4 XL's. A local shop said sealing a trunk on GM cars sounds like crap; Is this true? This would be the plan for my box Would this cause an audible noise or necessarily sound bad? I know it's install dependent but how do sealed trunks like THORSHAMMER's sound?

Ok i'll prolly do this some time this week or next week. But basicly to put that port in the deck like you guys where saying i would just have to find the total Cu. ft of the whole box. And plug my information into this handy dandy online calculator. http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm?id=31 and i should be fine right? not tuning this thing is gonna be hard as hell.lol I already know the length is gonna be like 40in long. but i can make it smaller if need be. And i'm gonna guess and say about 17cu ft. only thing is since its a daily driver and i want to use it for comps, how can i tune it? I mean 45 sounds like a good start, but for daily i dont want it that high, …

im planning on building a spl box for my 12" BL and would like some input from people with experience on a basic design to work around. for an spl box, i know people sometimes use a smaller box with more port area. my daily box is at 1.8ft^3 tuned to 33 with 26.5in of port area. approx how much port area would be ideal for this sub in say, a 1.5 cu ft box? im powering it with a hifonics bx1606d @ 1ohm and its in a 97 4runner, so anyone have ideas on tuning freq also?
