If you're building a downfire enclosure, how do you calculate the distance from the floor? I've searched and haven't found a definitive answer. All i've found is calculations for woofer sag and "just do 3"-4" from the floor." Half the radius, or plus 5% of Xmax... What? Help please! Thank you.

First off, hi...i just joined... I'm a complete audio noob... I'm looking to build a console/sub box for my 2007 Silverado... Its a reg cab with hardly any space behind the seats...so i want to take out my jump seat and build something... Here are the plans i sketched up... I basically want it to extend all the way to the dash... have a cup holder... and have the sub in the back, out of sight.... I will put a arm pad on top to rest my elbow... Alright, I am wanting to wait till i get a new vehicle to do a wall. (Still debating). I'd like to use two fifteens in my trunk, Thinking either AudioQue HDC3's, Fi BL's, or maybe some DC Level 4 XL's. A local shop said sealing a trunk on GM cars sounds like crap; Is this true? This would be the plan for my box Would this cause an audible noise or necessarily sound bad? I know it's install dependent but how do sealed trunks like THORSHAMMER's sound?

VanEQWizard Background noise floor fluctuates from 65dB to 78dB... pretty bad when nothing is playing! I can read these pics off PC but not from the threads so: 5.22% 300Hz sounded so much louder than 200Hz yet it was so much quieter... that is why KW likes a U shaped FR curve, more and more exaggerated as you get further from the middle 1.97% 1.97% 1.42% .844% .937% .253 .235 .235 .402 .217 .576 .229 .270 .259 .376 .208 .672 idk what happened .0343 IDKY but dist stopped showing here. I was clicking it though. couldnt even hear 18,000 so i stopped after it

I have a non wall box for a 21 warden going in a 2 door blazer, I have two boxes saved as a design right now. Both are about 8cu after all displacements and have 120-130sq in of port. The box is set up for sub up port back. My question is, would having the port on the side vertically facing the hatch make any much difference then if the port was on the bottom running length wise horizontally facing the hatch. I know each vehicle is diff and theres no telling whats better, but figured maybe the way the air moved would be diff or somthing. Thanks for any help

Hi, I am just about to start my build in my explorer and I have a few questions. I will be running Phoenix gold rsd 6.5 components in the front doors, Soundstream pcs.6.5 3 ways in the back. I have a kicker zx650.4 now the question is what is the difference between active/passive? and do I have the option to do the better sounding one? Also the subwoofer box I will be building I want to put the port inbetween the 2 subs but I don't know how to calculate it that way. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

But i wanna put the port on the bottom centered and i was going to make the port. 6H, 20W, and 19L, but that didnt give me enuff port area and i want it somewhere between 32 to 38 or so Hz. So if someone could please help me out it would be much appreciative thanks.

I just finished my box for my fi btl and now I'm looking for something to cover it but not sure what yet. I've looked at CF and Carpet together (having the entire box black carpet with the fi bomb sticker as a cutout with CF over top) and thought about bed liner but I've never tired either and I'm not sue what would be the best look and if there are any more ideas out there throw them at me in open to anything.

I've seen a few installes at some shows where they put a board/plexie over the subs/ports. Whats the purpose of this, and is there an advantage doing this?

Im pretty sure Ive seen this before. wondering how the port length is calculated. say the port opening is 3.75x13, Id assume when it splits Id make each continuance of the port 1.875x13. do I measure the length of the first part before it splits, and add to it the length of the part after the split to get the overall length. do I calculate the length as if I were running 2 1.875x13 ports, or a single 3.75x13 port. with the box volume and tuning I was using, they were very similar, 29.6 for one and 28.92 for the other scenario, so either one would end up close enough, but Id like the know the correct way. if either of these are correct.

ok heres the deal. i my box is sub and port same direction as of now i have them firing port up sub up. and there is around 4 inchs space before the trunk lid, and i am scoring a 148. i think i maybe able to squeeze the box in sub back port back.. but i will only have 2 or 3 inchs between the subs and port and wall of my trunk. if i change it up now.. and lose my score then im fucked for this weekend. i have talked with another town car SPL guy. and he stated, in all his testing center port back. he lost 3 DB. from having port on one side, and lost .5 db's on the dash (meca) with sub up port up i guess my short question is.. and at this point its just a g…

if any of you guys can give me an idea of what type of box works best for an early 90's cavalier station wagon id appreciate it, im a trunk guy and dont really know what works best in that type of vehicle, aside from a wall what do you guys suggest? the box will house 2 DD9512's dual 1.5 ohm subs and be powered by a single earthquake d10.
