Ok, I tried to do some research about tuning and port area, so I didn't have to make a thread. I read a thread on smd and they were saying 10sqin per cube was better for low tuning and then others were saying other things like more the better so I don't know which is right. A lot of misleading information out there!! Much rather ask here and know I'm getting the right answer lol I'm most likely going to be ask pro-rabbit for a design once I am sure of my measurements,It'd be nice to know exactly what it should be, so I can expand my knowledge. I would like to know for my system specifically, but also in general. EQUIPMENT: Subs: 2 SSA Zcon 12s Amp: 2 Crescendo BC2000s(won…

  3. So I'm good at building enclosures.....calculating ported enclosures? Not so much. I've just bought a new tow vehicle and using some budget equipment to put a nice setup in it. These are new items I've had laying around to put into a project car I'm building that won't be finished for a while. Vehicle : 2004 Escalade ESV (Suburban sized one) Location in the vehicle: Rear hatch, against the 3rd row. Want to keep some cargo room Space available (Length x Width x Height): 46" wide is set. 16" deep is set. The height is my variable. 20" is maximum. All dimensions are internal. Subwoofer make and model: Subwoofers are JBL GTO 4 ohm models Subwoofer Size: 12" …

ok so i built a box for my new nightshade 18. it is just under 5 cubic feet before sub displacement but after port displacement. it is tuned to 31 hz b4 the sub. it sounds great. my question is if the port area is too small. the re calculator that i used said that the square port area was 55.5. idk if this means inches or what but im guessing inches. the sub performs great at higher frequencies but the lows are kinda lacking compared to the 18" fi q that i had before. any info would be great. also if somebody would be willing to design me an optimal box that would be great too. my dimensions are 36" wide 22" tall and 20" deep. sub and port would have to be facing up. i li…

I got a cut sheet from skar audio, and i want to know others opinions on it. Ive tried to draw it up on paper to visualize, and ive done some calculations to help someone who knows how to use the info. Its for a friend so i don't wanna waste his cash on a shit design. Ok so he has a 97 Jeep grand cherokee. 90a alternator, I did the big 3 for him in some 4 gauge stinger pro i had laying around, and he had already bought a Rockford amp kit 4 gauge also...pretty nice wire. Ok the max dims are 36" wide, 36"deep and 30"tall, this leaves plenty space for the port to breath either up our back..The subwoofer is a skar audio ivx15 V1. Its a d2 coil. Here's spec off woofersetc.co…

This may come out the most newb question on earth. When running multiple woofers, do you need a amp that is ratted to power the RMS of each woofer or both woofers? In my case, for 2 btls, to run both off one amp do I need a 4,000RMS amp or a 2,000RMS amp? or should I just be looking at individual amps like strapping 2 sundown 1500s together? I've been looking at the sundowns and the rockford 2000 and 4000 amps.

So, i want to build a custom box for a Range Rover classic, LWB Box is for two 12" Alpine Type R's. I want the subs facing towards the roof and the port facing the rear of the vehicle, the "classic" SUV style. Although, the truck comes with a stock cover over the very rear, i want the box to be underneath that, so when i park i can cover the stuff up and keep people from wondering around the car. What wood should be used? Also, any special tricks with making boxes? I will provide picks tomorrow if needed.

  20. Never used allthread in a high pressure install so need some small tips in this area. I know that when allthread is ran from one side to another that washers and nuts are used on both sides of a wall. So that means 1 run of allthread will have 4 washers and 4 nuts on it. What kind of washers and nuts am i suppose to use inside of the box to prevent them from coming loose? I looked at nylon lock nuts but i cant use those on the inside because to get the nuts on the inside, you have to roll em on before you slide the allthread through the other wall. So, roll nut one way then back the other way to lock in place... nylon nuts appear to only roll in one direction so i dont k…

K, box dimensions are 35x32x16 externally. Internally this gives me roughly 8.57Cubes. I want to port this to 34hz or so, and i need a min area of 6 cubic feet after displacements, is this possible? I also need to know how many sq inches of port i should need. I am just going to run out and grab 2 sheets of MDF right now so any help would be wonderful. The only confusing part is that the RE calculator keeps giving me ridiculous port lengths when removing the second portion of the L to make it a square. Any port dimension recommendations would be wonderful. Thanks in advance. Chris

Hey guys I was wondering if I could get some help for a box design. I messed up my first design as my box fits inside my car but I FORGOT to measure the opening of my trunk to put the box in which doesn't allow it to slide right in. I am coming to you guys for a design for the Fi 15" BTL. And the car I have is a 95 Honda Accord. Max width I will go is 35" and the height will 16.5". Was looking for maybe 4 cubes of space @ 35Hz. I would really appreciate the help and thanks in advance! -Curt

is there any discernible difference between a square port and a circular port. I'm thinking about using a circular port tube from somewhere like Elemental designs. Mainly due in part to my lack of knowledge and how to build a ported enclosure.
