This will be a brief step by step break down on how to set your gain on your Sundown amplifier if your radio has a 6v or higher output, as multiple radios do these days. Step 1: Turn gain on amplifier to minimum. Done. .......... I was thinking it over the other night, and I remembered my SAZ-2000's gain had a "minimum" setting of 6v. I knew my radio did 8v output through the RCA's. So today I went and turned my gain all the way down and turned my sub level up on the radio, and sure enough it was just as loud but has an overall cleaner output, also what seemed to be more output, and more punch then before. But this aroused another question, if the "gain knob" that plug…

Been doing alot of work on some new amp products -- I don't get the time I used to on the forums to keep everyone in the loop but I'll go ahead and announce them today! Production is starting this week so we are looking at ~90 days or so. I won't be starting pre-orders right away but do expect a pre-order at some point once I get more solid time-lines. SAX-150.2 ($400 MAP) : Two channel Full-Range Class-D design (similar to 125.4) -- also runs on 19v like SAX-125.4 SAX-100.4 v.2 ($400 MAP) : Four channel Class-A/B design with similar crossovers to the 125.4 -- but a lower price as it's an A/B amp. Now featuring a fan as with most of our new stuff. This model will run to…

I originally built a .35 sealed box for it but wasn't pleased with it because It just wasn't loud enough. So I designed a new one and had my neighbor who has amazing wood working skills build. I'm certain the port length and box size is not optimal but it works great none the less. Roughly its a .66 ported box. 12x12x12 1/2mdf Needed to keep the ported box as small as possible because of room concerns. Port opening is 1" Tuned to about 45 hz. Using a Boston Acoustics GTA 500m and giving it all 500 watts. Turned the box out to take pictures, it normally faces forward. I can't believe how hard this 8" hits. The last time I had a sub was In 1998, it was a 10 Kicke…

SA 12 swap out from Treo TSX - SMD Forum Originally posted by kr15 on my SMD Forum : (All italics text posted by kr15) Summary : 1.2 dB up with the SA-12 ----- Well I have an SA 12 in the mail from Jacob. I am currently running a Tsx at 2ohm on a MBQ 1500d, so 800rms or so. The Treo is in an optimal box for TSX specs. The SA will also be in an optimal box. This is in a trunk car...When sub gets here and after I break it in some, I will post numbers from the swap. Both subs will have recieved 800rms, and both subs will have been in enclosures made to specs so I feel the comparison is pretty fair. The TSX is only rated at 400rms, but thats a joke. It has a 2.5inch c…

Well, my Nightshade bit the dust about a week or two ago, and I'm just now getting around to posting it. I'm not 100% positive about what happened but I want to run it past you guys first and see if I need a Recone or a new sub. I was pounding like I usually do on my way to work, and it was incredibly loud. As in louder than I've ever heard it before. Anyways, in my 15 minute commute to work, I had pulled up in the parking lot and just as I did, the sub stopped working. Wtf...? I wondered to myself and probably said aloud. I pulled into a parking space, and popped the hatch and there was smoke rolling out of the port. I quickly managed to lift my box and get the sub out.…

well went to a show today, and somehow only managed a 145.3 @ 36hz with the equipment in sig. I'm thinking it's in the enclosure. Can someone throw me some dimensions for an optimal box for these? I have plenty of room to work with so thats not an issue. I've seen posts where people are doin a 150+ with these subs and less power and still listening to it daily so i now a big number is in them, just need a different box.

I'm gearing up for the impending install in my SC400. I just ordered a 180a High Output alternator that should be here in a week or so. My tenative plan is to run 2 12" Fi Q's (D1 Ohm) on a SAZ-1500D. These will be running along side a JL450/4 for Mids/Highs. Am I going to be okay? Ohiogen, who is selling me the alternator, suggested I throw a Red Top in the back in addition to all of this but I don't want to if I don't have to, as it's just added weight and more money on top of the ~$550 alternator that I didn't want to have to buy in the first place.... It's a LSQ Install and I don't plan on blaring them in a parking lot with the key off or anything irresponsible. …

Sundown SA-12 Review - DIY Mobile Audio "I have had this sub for a few days now and am finally getting a chance to really give it a good listening to, mainly on my commute to and from work and this evening i finally had some time to just sit in the car and play some random tracks. The car is a 2008 Scion xB, the sub is in the rear cargo area in a 2cu ft ported enclosure tuned to 29hz (I will be updating my build thread with that info as well) Sub is on the drivers side facing the hatch port is on the passenger side facing the wall which was recommended to me and works VERY well. Build quality is outstanding, great fit and finish on all parts. Nice thick paper cone, stiff …

  18. I did some testing today. I got out my craftsman DMM/clamp and played some 50Hz tones. (I have a Panasonic headunit with 2V preouts, an Excessive Amperage 250A alternator, 1 Duralast Gold size 65, 2 Kinetik HC1800's, big three with knukonceptz 1/0 gauge, etc...) This is my gain right now (red dot indicates)... I did volume 30/40 and sub at 0 on the headunit playing a 50Hz tone. I got 28.6 volts (AC) at the speaker terminals and 19 amps (AC) on the speaker wire, so 543.4 watts. I did volume 32/40 and sub at 0 on the headunit playing a 50Hz tone and got 33.2 volts and 21 amps, so 697.2 watts. I measured the resistance on my sub wires... 1.0 ohm. What's the deal? Why am I …

Attention Team Sundown and other customers looking at 3000s. At the current rate of sales the 3000Ds will run out before I get more in stock. This year has shown incredible sales for the 3000Ds, well beyond my predicted averages. Just a heads up so you can make your plans accordingly if you NEED some before they are out. I estimate that they will be out of stock for 4-6 weeks once they are out. As an alternative there will be plenty of 1500Ds in stock during that time.

  20. im about to get a 15" Fi BTL fully loaded with cooling, 3rd magnet, and HiXmax coil. I want to get a dual 1 ohm and run it with a SAZ1500 at .5 ohm. from several people though i hear its actually at like .7 ohm because the coils have an impedance rise at .5, correct me if im wrong. But to back it up i plan on doing the big 3 with 0 awg, then a new 160 amp alt (upgrading from the stock 70 amp one), then i want to get a kinetik 16V with a run of 0 awg to the amp or would be better off going a 12V 2400? just please tell me how safe this would be since i know .5 isnt covered under warranty anymore. or would i just better off all together just getting a dual 2 and running it a…

So banginAltima & I picked up his new pair of Sundown Audio z15"s yesterday. I feel so priveleged cause I got to test them out in my Explorer 1st. My box is a very basic 6ft net volume. Powered by a single Sundown saz-1500d it burped a 149.5 and hit 148.1 on music playing some Kanye West. We're gonna do some more testing tomorrow and see what they can do at different power levels. No doubt this will easily burp over a 150db on the saz-2000d which will be the perfect amp for a pair of these subs. No doubt I'm underpowering them with the saz-1500d. After a 30 second full tilt run on music they were still cold to the touch and it was 80* here today. There isn't e…

Well I changed my mind again on subs Ended up with 2 Sundown Nightshade 15's. Got them today and started the box and new midgate. I swear the pictures do no justice for the subs, they are huge. I am sure everyone has seen pics but here are some more. Buddy of mine had to hold the subs cause they seem to want to stand up on their own. Now my fiberglass midgate is a little more time consuming than I thought but here is the progress. Here is how I plan on attaching the midgate to the box. Box shown with bottom not attached, midgate is also second baffle. I attached the two boards to the fiberglass midgate. using drywall screws with rubber washers.

Hello I recently purchased a saz2500 and 6 e8 v2 subs. The final project will be 12 e8's. I have a silverado crew cab and i made a box 2.4 cf @ 30 hz with a 4" inch round port. And all subs are in same box with no divisions. port measurement that i got from online calculator it told me that that was the measurement needed to tune to 30hz it was 14 long x 4 round pvc. Gain on 2500 is about 1/2 and settings on amp are all the 1/2 on bass booster and sub spnic filter set to: 20hz and lpf set to: 36hz My problem is this it sounds bad on most songs. I can hear subs slaping. And it looks like they maxin out on excursion. But they dont seam loud. And for some songs like ba…
