So banginAltima & I picked up his new pair of Sundown Audio z15"s yesterday. I feel so priveleged cause I got to test them out in my Explorer 1st. My box is a very basic 6ft net volume. Powered by a single Sundown saz-1500d it burped a 149.5 and hit 148.1 on music playing some Kanye West. We're gonna do some more testing tomorrow and see what they can do at different power levels. No doubt this will easily burp over a 150db on the saz-2000d which will be the perfect amp for a pair of these subs. No doubt I'm underpowering them with the saz-1500d. After a 30 second full tilt run on music they were still cold to the touch and it was 80* here today. There isn't e…

Would two D2 SA-8's do ok on an Audiopipe AP1000D running at 2ohms? That would be 700watts rms. Also, how would the sound compare to a single 10 or 12 in an SQ type setup?

Glad I didn't sell the ol' Jeep... I took a small portion of the day to actually mess around with my own setup so I don't go crazy and hate stereos *laughs* I am building the back battery / amp rack for a forward firing SSNW setup and I was initially scared that it would hurt my scores with the Magic Box until I start on that -- of course I haven't clamped power yet... but this is the best score I've ever done with an SA-15. What I'm using is a Dual-2 copper coil SA-15 that I used to measure T/S for the official spec sheet I made -- this one is identical to the production run due next month; which only differs from what we sell now in that it has a shorting ring and a dif…

I just hooked up my amp, set my gains, hooked up the sub, and I am getting zero output out of the sub. The sub is an SSA Icon D2 10", wired in parallel to 1ohm. The amp is a Sundown SAE-1000D, bought refurbished from DB-r. Headunit is a Pioneer DEH-P6000D for reference. It is hooked up exactly like this, except I only have one positive and one negative coming from the subwoofer, and they are connected to the positive on the left, and the negative on the left. I played a 50hz test tune, set my volume to 45/60, and adjusted the gain until it was at 30V at the speaker terminals on the amp. (a little below 31.6, figured that would keep me on the safe side) Then I hooked u…

Hello I recently purchased a saz2500 and 6 e8 v2 subs. The final project will be 12 e8's. I have a silverado crew cab and i made a box 2.4 cf @ 30 hz with a 4" inch round port. And all subs are in same box with no divisions. port measurement that i got from online calculator it told me that that was the measurement needed to tune to 30hz it was 14 long x 4 round pvc. Gain on 2500 is about 1/2 and settings on amp are all the 1/2 on bass booster and sub spnic filter set to: 20hz and lpf set to: 36hz My problem is this it sounds bad on most songs. I can hear subs slaping. And it looks like they maxin out on excursion. But they dont seam loud. And for some songs like ba…

Well I changed my mind again on subs Ended up with 2 Sundown Nightshade 15's. Got them today and started the box and new midgate. I swear the pictures do no justice for the subs, they are huge. I am sure everyone has seen pics but here are some more. Buddy of mine had to hold the subs cause they seem to want to stand up on their own. Now my fiberglass midgate is a little more time consuming than I thought but here is the progress. Here is how I plan on attaching the midgate to the box. Box shown with bottom not attached, midgate is also second baffle. I attached the two boards to the fiberglass midgate. using drywall screws with rubber washers.

  19. I did some testing today. I got out my craftsman DMM/clamp and played some 50Hz tones. (I have a Panasonic headunit with 2V preouts, an Excessive Amperage 250A alternator, 1 Duralast Gold size 65, 2 Kinetik HC1800's, big three with knukonceptz 1/0 gauge, etc...) This is my gain right now (red dot indicates)... I did volume 30/40 and sub at 0 on the headunit playing a 50Hz tone. I got 28.6 volts (AC) at the speaker terminals and 19 amps (AC) on the speaker wire, so 543.4 watts. I did volume 32/40 and sub at 0 on the headunit playing a 50Hz tone and got 33.2 volts and 21 amps, so 697.2 watts. I measured the resistance on my sub wires... 1.0 ohm. What's the deal? Why am I …

We have been using a plastic domed pole plug for our cooling option for some time now. I decided to take a new route and these will be shipping as of orders placed today and beyond. They were made down the street here in Troutman, NC Solid aluminum plugs! The shape is a bit more aerodynamic than the old plug as well: Also, being aluminum, the plug itself will soak up some heat.

155.1 dB - woohoo This was with a "Monster" prototype woofer -- not a production speaker. Interestingly... with all my tweaks to the Z v.2 prototype it was doing the same numbers per watt up to 2500 watts (I stopped measuring with the Monster at that point). So... I may be able to match this with a full production trim Z v.2 driver. Previous best was 154.9 with an 18v electrical system and two SAZ-3000Ds on the sub... this time I am on 12v but with two SAZ-4500Ds (power is similar). Some more pics of the setup : I haven't played with front to back box positioning since I built the new amp rack (yah, slacking... I know) -- but I'll work on that a bit when I get time a…

  24. So my friends set up is a single sa 15 in a 6.5 net cu ft box with 91.5 in Sq port area and it's receiving roughly 950 watts. After normal play for about an hour the motor gets very warm and we noticed today that around the cone there is a small amount of tearing on the surround. Not sure why this is happening knowing that the sa's can take quite a bit of beating . maybe the box is just to large for the woofer and it's causing some thermal stress on the the motor. Just curious what might be the problem and if there is a solution.

I originally built a .35 sealed box for it but wasn't pleased with it because It just wasn't loud enough. So I designed a new one and had my neighbor who has amazing wood working skills build. I'm certain the port length and box size is not optimal but it works great none the less. Roughly its a .66 ported box. 12x12x12 1/2mdf Needed to keep the ported box as small as possible because of room concerns. Port opening is 1" Tuned to about 45 hz. Using a Boston Acoustics GTA 500m and giving it all 500 watts. Turned the box out to take pictures, it normally faces forward. I can't believe how hard this 8" hits. The last time I had a sub was In 1998, it was a 10 Kicke…
