Sundown SA-12 Review - DIY Mobile Audio "I have had this sub for a few days now and am finally getting a chance to really give it a good listening to, mainly on my commute to and from work and this evening i finally had some time to just sit in the car and play some random tracks. The car is a 2008 Scion xB, the sub is in the rear cargo area in a 2cu ft ported enclosure tuned to 29hz (I will be updating my build thread with that info as well) Sub is on the drivers side facing the hatch port is on the passenger side facing the wall which was recommended to me and works VERY well. Build quality is outstanding, great fit and finish on all parts. Nice thick paper cone, stiff …

Well I changed my mind again on subs Ended up with 2 Sundown Nightshade 15's. Got them today and started the box and new midgate. I swear the pictures do no justice for the subs, they are huge. I am sure everyone has seen pics but here are some more. Buddy of mine had to hold the subs cause they seem to want to stand up on their own. Now my fiberglass midgate is a little more time consuming than I thought but here is the progress. Here is how I plan on attaching the midgate to the box. Box shown with bottom not attached, midgate is also second baffle. I attached the two boards to the fiberglass midgate. using drywall screws with rubber washers.

im about to get a 15" Fi BTL fully loaded with cooling, 3rd magnet, and HiXmax coil. I want to get a dual 1 ohm and run it with a SAZ1500 at .5 ohm. from several people though i hear its actually at like .7 ohm because the coils have an impedance rise at .5, correct me if im wrong. But to back it up i plan on doing the big 3 with 0 awg, then a new 160 amp alt (upgrading from the stock 70 amp one), then i want to get a kinetik 16V with a run of 0 awg to the amp or would be better off going a 12V 2400? just please tell me how safe this would be since i know .5 isnt covered under warranty anymore. or would i just better off all together just getting a dual 2 and running it a…

Hello all. I have a 2007 Kia Sportage with 2 Nightshade Dual 2 ohm 15's powered by a Sundown SAZ 3000D amplifier. I have the Big3 done and everything is deadened except the roof. That will be done with Damplifier Pro in the near future. I have 2 Optima Yellowtop D-34 Batteries in back for the amp and a smaller yellowtop under the hood. Here is a pic of the setup. I turn my subwoofer box up and get better numbers. My best to date is 149 Sealed on the dash. All I want is one more DB. I would appreciate anybodies input on how to gain 1 more db.

So I just purchased a Sundown SA12D4 installed it and had about an hour worth of play before it decided to go out on me that same day. I have it hooked up to an Alpine MRX M110 rated at 1100 rms at 2ohm, wired with kunconceptz kolossus flex 4 gauge kit, Kinetik hc2000 for power source (battery is located in the back), and a ported enclosure 1.75 cubic feet tuned at 35hz. I had the gain a little less than half to break sub in first when it started to smell really bad then almost immediately it blewi think and now it sounds like crap. Ive had these subs before amd over powere them without any issues. Do you think its worth the hassle going through the warranty exchange...…

So my friends set up is a single sa 15 in a 6.5 net cu ft box with 91.5 in Sq port area and it's receiving roughly 950 watts. After normal play for about an hour the motor gets very warm and we noticed today that around the cone there is a small amount of tearing on the surround. Not sure why this is happening knowing that the sa's can take quite a bit of beating . maybe the box is just to large for the woofer and it's causing some thermal stress on the the motor. Just curious what might be the problem and if there is a solution.

155.1 dB - woohoo This was with a "Monster" prototype woofer -- not a production speaker. Interestingly... with all my tweaks to the Z v.2 prototype it was doing the same numbers per watt up to 2500 watts (I stopped measuring with the Monster at that point). So... I may be able to match this with a full production trim Z v.2 driver. Previous best was 154.9 with an 18v electrical system and two SAZ-3000Ds on the sub... this time I am on 12v but with two SAZ-4500Ds (power is similar). Some more pics of the setup : I haven't played with front to back box positioning since I built the new amp rack (yah, slacking... I know) -- but I'll work on that a bit when I get time a…

We should have it in a week or so to test ourselves; factory testing has went very well and it is meeting all of our design goals. Length without feet = 18.89" With the feet total length is roughly on par with the original version (20.15") -- then the case is of course narrower. So overall foot-print is down. Will get some side to side pics when the prototype gets here.

I just hooked up my amp, set my gains, hooked up the sub, and I am getting zero output out of the sub. The sub is an SSA Icon D2 10", wired in parallel to 1ohm. The amp is a Sundown SAE-1000D, bought refurbished from DB-r. Headunit is a Pioneer DEH-P6000D for reference. It is hooked up exactly like this, except I only have one positive and one negative coming from the subwoofer, and they are connected to the positive on the left, and the negative on the left. I played a 50hz test tune, set my volume to 45/60, and adjusted the gain until it was at 30V at the speaker terminals on the amp. (a little below 31.6, figured that would keep me on the safe side) Then I hooked u…

We have been using a plastic domed pole plug for our cooling option for some time now. I decided to take a new route and these will be shipping as of orders placed today and beyond. They were made down the street here in Troutman, NC Solid aluminum plugs! The shape is a bit more aerodynamic than the old plug as well: Also, being aluminum, the plug itself will soak up some heat.

I would consider myself a "lurker" when it comes to forums. I compete in the local SPL scene here on Oahu and am a member of Team Sundown. Anyway, I've reached a landmark in my brief SPL career the other day and decided to share it with fellow Sundown Audio enthusiasts. In testing I was able to break the 150db mark on the Term-Lab, now to do it in competititon. Here's some info, pics, and vids of my current setup. Who wants to know what it is ? Here is a hint... it's 1" longer than the SAZ-1000D and it will actually replace the 1000D once the next run of 1000Ds is sold (so if you need one get one). I'll be opening pre-sale soon... coming in with the 2500Ds.

Well wife got a newer car, 2005 Kia Spectra5 and of course I wanted to put a system in it. So since I couldn't find a buyer for my Alpine CDA-9835 that will be going in this week when the kit/harness arrive. I will be putting some Polk 6.5 coaxials in the doors for now, those are in her old car atm. Just this past weekend I worked a deal where I built a box for a single 12 and swapped that for a SA8 barely broken in. So today I decided to go ahead and build the box for the SA8. Also picked up a MTX4001 400W@2ohm mono amp for $60 from a friend of mine who owns a pawn shop in Merrit Island. Here's a few pics of the box; That's it for now, gotta pick up charcoal gray …

One of each showed up for us to check out -- will be building a 12" up first since that is the largest one I have a full size spider for. So that means I can take a video of it tomorrow ! On to the photos... they turned out way crazier than I imagined. 18" Cone ---------- 15" Cone ---------- 12" Cone ---------- 10" Cone
