Sundown SD-3 Line : In the Works ----- Thanks to the success of the SD-2 8" model I started developing the SD-3 line; this will replace all SD-2 models in 8/10/12" sizes (there is no 15 in this series). The SD-3 motor and coil design will become under-hung like the 8" model on the bigger 10 and 12" models -- I am also further optimizing the parameters of all models for sealed enclosures... even the 8" model will be tweaked a bit more. They have the same topology as the 8" -- a 1" top plate and 1/2" long coil -- but the 10/12 design uses a 2.5" diameter coil compared to the 2" on the eight. As far as release date... by the time prototype is done and production is done … -

I usually dont go out of my way to make these threads but I have to say I am utterly embarrassed by Sundowns lack of ANY customer service. I have dealt with Jacob directly about 5 years ago when ordering my first Sundown amplifiers and have nothing but great things to say about how he treated me as a customer. Fast forward 5 years to today and I am a dealer for Sundown. Im not going to go into how their high shipping costs coupled with their low online pricing makes it IMPOSSIBLE to make a profit on their products and still be competitive. Rather, I want to bring up how utterly non-existent their customer service is. We ordered a pair of Nightshade 18" for a c… -

Since db-r does not have their forum here I figured I would post this in the Sundown forum. Feel free to move it if you like. I was looking for a 3000 watt amp and checked the db-r web sight and saw they were having a sale on their referb amps. I had some questions and emailed Chris those questions. He responed quickly and assured me I was not only getting an excellent amp, but was getting the customer service got go with it if I were to have any issues in the future. I just ordered it a couple hours ago and look foward to its arrival. Thus far I am very happy with the service I received from Chris at db-r today. I will update upon it's arrival and install. -

I got in my truck this morning and started it up then turned on my stereo. I heard a small pop and noticed my front speakers were not working. I started investigating and discovered the 3 fuses on my 100.2 had all blown. I went to put in new ones and they blew right away and then smoke came from the amplifier. I have gone over all my power and ground wiring and cannot find any shorts. I have a sundown 1200d running off the exact same power and ground thru distribution blocks. That amp continues to play my subs and the fuses are all fine. I opened up the 100.2 and saw a burned part. I guess it's one of the fets along the side. Is this an amp problem or is it something els… -

Just got off the phone with my local machine shop... looks like they can make the copper tube I need @ 75mm long x 74mm ID x 76mm OD Also looks like I can get a 77mm diameter coil former from Precision... and that I have a nifty motor here already in stock with a 40mm tall top plate. Can anyone guess what I'm doing ? Hint : When I'm done with the first one it's going in my daily driver. -

Just got them in and QC tested them all on the bench; very happy so far. Still need to get them fully charged then run preliminary specs (have to send them out to do so as our magnetizer isn't in yet) -- but we are still stiffening up the surrounds so those will only be ~80% accurate initially. This is also the first look at our tooled 18" spider adapter piece ! On to the photos (video of the 18" is uploading) : -

Alright guys -- I have noticed that the SAX-100.2 doesn't get the recognition it deserves online. My local dealers love the amp and they have sold most of them to folks that don't post online! So, in order to get some love for the SAX-100.2 online I am doing to do something that you won't see again for a long time. I am opening a special DIRECT sale on the SAX-100.2 model until April 20th! On to the fun part... the cost will be $200 shipped in the continental USA (PM me for Hawaii and Alaska). Yes, that is right. This is April 2nd and not an April Fools joke! To take advantage of this offer simply Paypal me at [email protected] -- or for an easy Paypal check-out g… -

Prototypes arrived today... working on doing full break-in to measure official specs. Honestly I am super happy with the prototypes -- I do plan to tool a magnet boot and put our logo on the cap but I don't think any other changes are needed at all. SD-2 12" Measured Mounting Depth = 5.25" SD-2 10" Measured Mounting Depth = 4.75" ----- Early price estimates -- MAP price (actual price paid from dealer) (SA cost for comparison) SA-10 v.1 : $185 SA-12 v.1 : $195 SD-2 10 : $150 SD-2 12 : $160 Pre-ordering would be something like : SD-2 10 : $115 SD-2 12 : $125 That would be shipped in the continental 48 states. Once I do some testing we'll have an ETA and a time when pre-orde… -

Just got these in... designed them based on many requests for a really good sealed box 8" woofer. Power rating is pending testing but mechanically I designed them around 300 watts or so (half the spiders of the SA-8 v.2) -- we'll do our thermal cycle to determine the official rating. As is typical with our products the rating giving will be a "worst case" rating and many people will have no problem running a bit extra. We built upon our newly tooled platform from the SA-8 v.2 so it shares many of the advantages of that platform from the get-go. These feature an under-hung coil with predicted linear x-max of ~14.5mm one-way by 70% BL method using an 8-layer copper 2" coil … -

Building these for a customer... I wasn't happy with the limits I was facing with the 10" 12-spoke frame so I grabbed some different frames to use for this project ! One picture for now until I get some stuff back from the machine shop... but what is to come : Z v.3 Spider w/ Double Leads and Triple Joint Ring Z v.3 Vented Spacer Ring (from 18" Z v.3) Basket coil cut-out OD expansion at local machine shop Custom made spider riser made at local machine shop Wide-Roll Surround 10" Cone Full Length NS v.2 Coil The customer is planning to use quite a bit of power on these so I wanted to do something a bit special... anyone that knows me knows that I hate making 10s with 3" c… -

Got this truck through some horse trading... current setup was tested to do 154.3 dB @ 61 Hz with two Z15s and a clamped power of 5000 watts total. I want a more efficient setup so I am tearing it all down! Some pics of the current setup with the cap off and starting to tear down : Old wall has a great baffle - 7 layers thick - but the outside is too thin. It is one layer of MDF with super dense foam sandwiched between that and a thin layer of wood (I had that peeled off before the pics). It does have concrete above the front chamber, though, so that is not too bad. All in all I think it could be better so I am going to rip it out! -

The SD-1 v.2 10" subwoofer is going on sale! Fantastic dual 4-ohm voice coil USA made driver. http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...showtopic=18579 * Review by JimJ MSRP was $229 on these drivers. You won't be able to find another fully USA manufactured driver that is as shallow and performs as well for near the blow-out price of $115 *shipped* in the USA each. This is HALF the original price. COMBO DEALS: SAX-100.2 + 2x SD-1 v.2 10" - $425 (shipped) SAE-1000D + 2x SD-1 v.2 10" - $500 (shipped) *** 1000Ds are sold out right now - July 23, 2008 Paypal me at [email protected] to take advantage of this offer. Here's the setup, a pair of Sundown Audio SAZ-1500d's strapped at 1 ohm. In the box used in the test (a single Funkin Audio MF12, dual 2), rise went from 1 ohm to 2 ohms during play. Here are the results: Notes: * Highest power on 16.0v rest was 4663 watts on 14.3v * Highest power on 16.5v rest was 5136 watts on 14.3v * Highest power on 17.9v rest was 5677 watts on 15.5v * 84% efficient on 15.0v and 180 amps of draw per amp There was a 10% increase in power starting 0.5v higher with an ending voltage being the same. There was another 10% increase when starting at 1.4v higher and ending 1.2v higher. This would tell me that a lowest voltage over 16.5v like… -

We put the Nightshade in Sean's truck and beat the crap out of it with 4x SAZ-1500Ds at 1/2 ohm nominal each (about 1.15 ohm each with impedance rise): * 4.5 ft^3 box tuned to around 35 Hz or so (same box from SDE post) * Front of the woofer in the "wall" setup Peak was at 54 Hz and SPL is as follows: 40.9 watts @ 133.0 dB 141.1 watts @ 137.8 dB 311.3 watts @ 140.7 dB 513.4 watts @ 142.7 dB 811.5 watts @ 144.5 dB 1731.2 watts @ 146.9 dB 2845 watts @ 148.1 dB 4505 watts @ 149.2 dB 7081 watts @ 151.2 dB -- Still gained 2 dB at this point, very little compression The next step blew one coil on the Nigthshade... so we didn't get any more SPL readings. Our meters don't have … -

We've shown a few pictures of the new frame... this is the first peek at the newly tooled and designed spider. I designed this spider based on all the information gathered during testing of the v.1 model -- this is our own spider design / tool where the other two spider versions from the v.1 were simply the best readily available roll profiles. IMO... this roll is FAR superior and should show in testing -- which will likely be coming on Friday. One thing that should be noticed quickly is the massive reduction in mechanical noises from the new spider -- MUCH quieter all the way up until we run out of frame clearance; which I do in the video when you hear the tick sound. Th… -
