I selected a SA-8 as a Demo sub for my community. It happens that the majority have small cars, children, & want to save some trunk space shopping. also they listened to a wide genre not just rap. overall they want to hear nice sounding bass (quality more than output). Can someone advised me ideas and experince using an SA-8 for SQ applications. so far my design is to used 1 3 inch aeroport on 1cu/ft net box on 30hz. it will be powered by saz-1500 at 2ohms If you have any ideas & experience on this kind of appilcication. feel free to let me know before I start. Thanks!

Well, my friend said he wants more boom for his stock ass Mini. Man the thing has a horrid stock stereo, and it's too complicated to get an aftermarket stereo. He wanted an 8" sub, or a 10", so I showed him the SA-8. Should I build a box with .65cuft after dicplacement at 32hz? He listens to variety of different genres. I plan on running an in-line-converter to the amp later on. Thanks!

Trying to wire up now- not worried about what ohm to wire it up to got that i got 3 and i am wiring it to 1.33 ohms and i was gonna just use the wire terminal as a jumper to get the neutral and power wire to the other subs like 2 wires on the terminals on 2 of the subs and the last sub will just have 1 wire into all the terminals because i dont have to jump it on the far end so my question is can two 12 gauge wires fit in one of the terminal in the sa8-- if not would it be better to run a seperate run for each speaker to where the wires are coming into the box- or would wire nutting them and getting a good tape job be good enough cant wait to try these out-to make su…

Box size has alot to do with mechanical power handling. If you are going to be pushing your woofer beyond it's rated RMS power you need to be very mindful of this fact and put the woofer in no larger than the minimum suggested enclosure for music program. We design our woofers for very small enclosures and power ratings are there for a reason -- you can continue to push a driver like the SA-8 beyond RMS power and it will not be stressed whatsoever thermally by the time you can cause mechanical issues. The motor, especially on the SA-8, is VERY strong -- being an 8" driver there is limited mechanical throw available. The driver retains high motor force all the way up to th…

Since we have been out so long I decided to open pre-ordering for the month of June -- they are due in July with the specific ETA still being up in the air. I will post when I get a better date within July. I will run this for the month of June and maybe a little bit into July depending on the specific date of arrival. This run features all the updates so far on the 8s AND the new style frame: This frame has superior clearances and is actually a bit easier to get in the hole with large speaker wires. A win-win all in all The magnet boot IS still included -- the frame pic is just a bit older. ----- PRICING : 1x SA-8 = $119 2x SA-8 = $109 each 4x or more SA-8 = $99 each …

The SA-8 shipment is due Wednesday roughly. Disclaimer... PLEASE DO NOT e-mail me or post asking about your specific order ship-date. We will e-mail tracking to you or your dealer through the automated system; all orders will go out in the order they were received and as quickly as we possibly can. I expect that it will take into next week to get them all out.

Just pre-ordered an SA-8 to play around with...can't wait to receive it! Gives me time to build the box. From what it looks like, something like a .75-1 cu. ft. ported around 34 or 35Hz should be a good starting point for good sound/efficiency right? Planning on running about 450-500 watts to it.

I know there not out but do you think 4 of the sa-8 could get louder than two 12"inch woofers. Both would be running off saz 2000?Its just hard to believe 8s can get that loud, but man that would be badass.how big would a box half to be for 6 ofthem ported?

Right now I'm building a new box for one 8" sundown Sa-8 that I'll be using until I get another 1 or 2. My current box is tuned too high for my liking. How much square port area is recommended for these subs? What is the lowest you would recommend I tune the box to? Right now I'm tuned to 34 hz, between .75 and .85 cubes after displacement by messing with some dimensions, with 13 inches of square port area. Is this enough for one Sa-8? I don't want to make too big of a box for it per Jacob's recommendations. Thanks.

My brother got an SA-8 and may not be able to port the box based upon where he wants to put the sub in his truck. If he decides to go with sealed, what volume should the enclosure be built to ensure the maximum quality output? Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Few updates : 1) I am running a full container load of the v.1 SA-8s to meet demand -- these will be in stock in July. So we'll be sold out for a bit as the massive amount we just got recently are already nearly depleted. 2) This run of v.1 models will have the v.2 frame on them -- as there are reasons beyond cosmetic for the frame. They will be fully compatible with any SA-8 with the newest surround and spider, though. From the front will look no different either. 3) Once these are gone then we'll work on launching the v.2 models -- R&D is almost done on them. But they should be out around August to September. Sean will be up next week to try out the latest SA-8 v.2 …

Some pics from the latest production run that was recently on pre-order that is due end of July to first of August. These have all of the updates to date on the v.1 plus : 1) New slightly taller spacer ring with full Sundown logo (few mm extra for SPL burps) 2) New revised cast frame with better clearances They are compatible with other SA-8s made to date as these are still a v.1 model.

The finalized frame tool with production finish is done so I'm starting a thread to hold photos of all the parts as they finish up... we should have the rest of the tooled parts done the week of the 24th and the motor likely before that. So as I get images of the final parts I'll put them up!

Original thread is closed as ordering has been shut down. They will be leaving our factory March 8th - 13th and arrival time is 25 - 35 days... so we will be from 1st to 2nd week of April which is a bit behind schedule but not too bad. We sold such a huge quantity it will probably take 2 weeks or more to get them all tested and shipped out. If any stock remains regular ordering will open back up after that point. We have to make sure that we have enough fully QC passing units to supply all currently paid pre-orders before taking any more orders. If you missed out... we have two more production runs scheduling for arrival in ~May and another for arrival in ~June-July but t…

We've shown a few pictures of the new frame... this is the first peek at the newly tooled and designed spider. I designed this spider based on all the information gathered during testing of the v.1 model -- this is our own spider design / tool where the other two spider versions from the v.1 were simply the best readily available roll profiles. IMO... this roll is FAR superior and should show in testing -- which will likely be coming on Friday. One thing that should be noticed quickly is the massive reduction in mechanical noises from the new spider -- MUCH quieter all the way up until we run out of frame clearance; which I do in the video when you hear the tick sound. Th…

I got a pair of these and have a question about a box. I really want a ported box, but don't have the room. They are going in a 350Z and i still need trunk space. what do you think about a sealed box? What size would be ideal? Below is a link where i have some pics. http://www.caraudio.com/forums/enclosure-design-construction-help/574003-help-ported-box.html

I made a Dual-1 8-layer aluminum SPL coil unit for Sean with an extra spider... FS was 59Hz after some break-in so NOT good for a daily application. Due to the new ultra linear spider we have to get the FS starting out closer to the burp frequency as we lack the shift in CMS that causes FS rise with a less linear spider. Best score to date of 152.4 "outlaw" style with 3kw clamped power -- the most we've ever put to an SA-8 to date. The sub was really only at about 1/2-2/3 stroke as well -- where the old SA-8s were hitting the triple joint on the top plate before this point. We are very pleased as Sean's car mysteriously lost around 2dB a while back and we've had to come u…

Got my first prototypes in for the v.3 revision of the SA-8 -- it took quite a bit of consideration to figure out how to make some improvements to the design but I think we are on the right track : * Newly tooled surround with an improved shape / slightly bigger overall size... this is a new shape I have been testing with for a while that is a bit more linear than the old shape. It allows a small but noticeable amount of extra throw. * We removed the vent ring to reduce the total depth by 10mm -- since this reduces the cooling capability a bit we added gap vents (next photo). I did use appropriately sized drilled vent holes to maintain a degree of pressure in the un…
