Well guys yesterday was my last day to test before my truck left to go to it's new home. I had big plans of spending most of the day testing; however, that wasn't in the cards. To begin the day my charger had screwed up sometime in the past few days leaving my batteries partially drained. I apologize in advance for the inadequacy of these results, but from my limited testing I learned quite a bit about this driver. These numbers probably don't mean much to you so let me do some comparision for you. In that same enclosure in the same test vehicle at the same power, note this was on a much colder day, the Nightshade is about .4-.5db louder than the IA DP and at 20hz…

* An SAZ-4500D next to a pair of NS-1 prototypes. * NS-1 has speaker outputs on the other side. * Little SAE-500D Prototype hanging out -- this is not the final case; just have not tooled up the case I'll use yet. * SAE-500D guts -- stout little amp. * Guts of 4500D and NS-1 * Guts from the other side. * Top view of the guts. * Significantly larger output inductors on the NS-1 to handle the additional power output. * While the NS-1 has fewer transformers they are much bigger. I have not been able to locate my power clamp so no testing on either yet. I'll keep looking for it... not sure I'll be able to get to the NS-1 today or not due to the electrical requirements…

I'm about to sell my Fi Bl 12 and was looking at the SA series subs. I've never done 10's, so i was looking at doing 2 10's (of course the box will be behind the seat). I can fit up to 2.8 cubes behind the seat, but looking at about 2.3 after port and sub displacement. My current setup does a 140.0 on the dash (at 40 hz), the box is tuned to 28 hz, and it smashes the lows like no other. I'm wanting to know what would be a good box volume and port area to run 2 10's in that would get me into that range, or hopefully higher. Also, i'll be running about 1300-1400 wrms to the pair. I know there are a lot of factors that go into how loud a setup is, so i would like to tune the…

Currently waiting on customer to pick out some vinyl so I can finish the truck box, but in the mean time I decided to get started on my next box for the kia. The quad SA8s were decent in the kia, I dotn like the layout and the way it goes in the trunk however, So Im making a new box. Infact Im going to add the 2 refurbs Ive got on the way to the mix to do 6 sa8s in the kia. So my question, how much port area should i use for 6 of these, Im going to tune to 34hz approx, maybe a few less, and Im gonna build the box at 3 cubes. probably gonna get going on it tonight as long as I can figure out the port area. Some calculators Ive tried put the port area much higher than I fi…

Planning to run this setup for nSPL Finals this weekend... needed to stay under 5000 watts on the nSPL clamp meters. On my meter it clamped exactly 4000 watts last night which should be 4700-5000 on their clamps. Tuning is in the high 30s and peaks at 47 Hz... tuned to 30 Hz and also peaking at 47 Hz it was about 1.8 dB quieter but still not bad at all, IMO. I plan to try cutting the ports down a bit more to see if I can get a tad more from it on the meter... may or may not get that done before the Finals event. Best score with just me in the Jeep was 153.8 and with Nick from Stereo Integrity in it as well we got 154.0 dB -- sealed on the dash. * One SAZ-4500D chilling o…

Hello all, Here in the Raleigh, NC area I have been around to a few car audio shops to pick up little things from time to time and I notice that most do not carry any Sundown Audio equipment. To me this has been somewhat of a surprise considering the fact that the company is "local", in the sense that it is based out of the same state and is only a few hours away. The response I have gotten from guys that run these shops is almost offensive to me as a Sundown Audio user. When I ask why they don't carry any Sundown they seem to get on this defensive "high horse" stating that either "Sundown equipment is too expensive, and nobody will buy it" or that "they are just a sma…

It is here ! Some comparisons to the SAZ-2000D model below. * Sitting Next to SAZ-2000D Model (2500D to the right) * Another angle - you can see the 2500D is only about 1" bigger (2500D on top) * SAZ-2000D Transformer : ~59.5mm * SAZ-2500D Transformer : ~64.5mm -- hard to tell in the photo but this adds a good bit of size overall to the unit * SAZ-2000D Output Inductor : ~47.5mm * SAZ-2500D Output Inductor : ~53.9mm -- significantly larger as the output section is equal to the old 3000D --- I'll be doing power testing as time allows and then some solid abuse testing. Once all of this is complete we can start production and offer a pre-sale.

I just got my car back from my installer today and I must say these Sundown's run super hot. After maybe an hour of playing time I almost burned my hand touching the top of the amps. I have one SAX-100.2, one SAX-100.4, and one SAZ-1500D and all three of them were equally hot. Also the SAX-100.4 shut off at one point probably due to the heat while the other two amps continued to play. Does anyone else have this problem? I think my installer is going to have to install a fan to blow some air on these things but I'm not sure it's going to help as it'll just be cycling hot air. For an SQ install they sound good, I just hope heat doesn't spoil the fun for me.

Ive got a SAZ-1500D hooked up to a Fi Q 18. It worked great for about 2 months, and all of a sudden the sub made a pop noise, and the amp went into protect mode. Since then, whenever you turn the amp on, the blue light will come on, and then a couple seconds later the sub just goes all the way down (pop noise), and then the amp almost immediately goes into protect mode. It will do this whether the speaker wires are hooked up or not. The local car audio shop told me i blew the amp, but i took the cover off and everything looked fine. anyone know whats going on?

* Dust cap... applied with three types of glue. 1) Green "special" glue to hold down stiffening disc (can't see the disc) 2) Black flexible glue to hold the cap to the disc 3) Clear epoxy to cover the height of the disc / cap combined around the edges * Surround is applied with flexible black glue as well * Triple joint - the cone doesn't meet the spiders, so it's a "dual triple joint" setup. Used glue all the way across the gap. Spider also glued down with "special" glue (yes, it's green) - then the gap between the outside of the spider and basket filled in with green special glue. * 18" 6-spoke doesn't have windows so spacers used for venting. ---- The green glue is e…

Well I former friend of mine is finally getting some gear, and he is being his normal self and competing with me. Hi got 2 15"s of these: http://www.splusa.net/SW_S3.htm And he is saying that he is gonna walk all over my 12" Nightshades and 3000D. Is he that pig headed? Yes I think so; he is convinced that any 15" is gonna be louder than a 12". I think he knows I'm gonna be louder than him so he is mad about it...or maybe its cause I'm dating his ex This kid also doesn't know anything about car audio, Ive tried to teach him but he is thick skulled. Any Input?

These should ship out from our Factory on February 15th -- so we should have them around March 15th. They will be available in 4 ohm and 8 ohm configurations. Original discussion was here : -- PLEASE read this before asking any questions in case it's been answered. I will put up mounting data shortly. *Updated* I sent my last set home with Sean so I had him measure them real quick. Depth : 3" Cut-Out : 5 11/16" These are designed as car audio midrange AND midbass drivers -- they sound a bit different from most of the "PA" style drivers on the market as they were designed to produce mid-bass in a car door. REGULAR PRICE - $99 EACH Pre-Order Price - $85 each for 1-3 pcs P…

Little project I've been working on for a while... first prototype rolled out yesterday. It about 4 1/8" deep -- power handling and other specs will be announced once we finalize the coil (several variations will be tested). Every part was custom tooled; frame, diaphragm, dust cap, spider, surround, etc, etc. It also features an aluminum pole cap to lower distortion even further. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available =)
