So I got bored today and decided to test the Nightshades limits.. it was taking every note solid @ 1500watts without even breaking a sweat... So I droped it down to .5, lowered the gains a lil bit... testing it at typical music levels seemed to do pretty good.. a lil stress but nothing serious... put on Burning Up Chopped in Screwed... pretty much flexed the piss out of the car for 15 seconds and it started smelling bad... turned it down real quick. Put it back to 2ohms... played fine for a little and then gave out. Sooo Jacob any type of specialized recone I can get =D? I ripped her apart to find this...

Made a separate topic for regular voltage testing. Hopefully I can get more in-depth testing with a stronger electrical system soon. ----------- Pyramid 50 Amp Power Supply 8 AWG from supply to batteries Kinetik 2400 Battery Duralast 1000 CA Battery 2 AWG between batteries 4 AWG from batteries to amp Fluke AC current / voltage meter Sears DMM Measurements: 65.8 volts 49.2 Amps 1.33 ohm calculated rise from 0.6 ohm DCR ** 3237 Watts 14.4 volts rest dropping to 10.75 volts ** - Rise was higher than when I tested the 1500D, it was 1.08 ohms for that test. Presumably since my single run of 12 AWG speaker wire is heating up some much due to the extra power. I also did a few te…

The old thread was getting, well, old... so it's time for a new one. The build house that I was working with on the X12 for the previous three iterations of prototypes was unable to produce my design to spec properly... so production has been moved elsewhere. Since I was already behind I decided to implement all of my other ideas for improving the design now rather than for later versions. 1) Changed to dual, mirrored progressive spiders -- they were linear units before 2) Optimizing top plate to coil height ratios for better BL linearity -- top plate is now 16mm tall 3) Optimized magnet ID and height to avoid wasting magnet mass (not making it heavier than necessary) 4) …

  6. So as some of you may know, for some reason some force doesn't want me to get my system together and up and running. My thread explaining previous issues Well i also had problems with my refurbished saz-3000d from db-r which i also started my own thread. Sundown problems SO the sundown came back in the mail today as planned and needless to say, i was very excited. Finally my system was going to be up and running!! I mean, what else could go wrong??? Well, as it currently seems the sundown was not probably repaired. Here's what happened: I hooked up the amp probably as the manual indicated. I set the subsonic to about ~25 hz range. gain was zero. Bast boost was zero. sub…

This is the second one I've made. They are a pain in the butt to do... so I never offered them openly. Everything is so tight even the tied down leads smack the cone -- so I will likely go in and glue on some felt pads behind the cone. In any event... here she is : * Yes, the dust cap JUST fits inside the surround... actually have to pry it out with a screw driver even without glue. * Terminals come out to the side so I can solder the leads after assembly. * Big motor on small frame !

I like these subs and they were tough to beat for the price. (Light, Loud, Clean, Effecient) I didn't have ONE unhappy SD-1 customer. What was everyone's opinion on these subs? Look. An unofficial 130dB off a "100" watt amp. Enclosure by James Taylor.

So Sean is up with his CRX and we are doing some testing... we hit a brick wall last time at 149.0 dB using a 4" aero-port. So... Sean and I got the idea to try a 6" aero-port for the single 8" woofer! The result is 149.9 dB so far. Peak is 66 Hz in the kick... the CRX normally peaks at 68 Hz so we are going to work on re-tuning to break the 150 outlaw. Fun stuff We have as much port area as cone are now *laughs*

Had a few requests for videos. Made one playing "Trap or Die" by Jeezy. Seemed to be about the same on the meter door open or closed. Link to video : Four of the new SA-12s being used on two 3500Ds @ 1 ohm each (turned down of course as these are 600-watt rated subs).

  14. 100-watts RMS 8s / $99 each from authorized dealer 200-watts RMS 10s / $115 each from authorized dealer Frequency range is ~80-5000 Hz on these -- the bottom end crossover point depends largely on how much power is ran to them. 8 ohm coils for large setups where you would be connecting 4 per channel to an SAX-125.2 or SAX-100.4 or 8 per channel on an SAX-200.4 These drivers are extremely light and relatively shallow so will fit in many locations easily and also will not weigh down doors with large quantities of drivers as bad as ferrite drivers. Standard Madisound grilles should fit them -- we will test it shortly.

I just hooked up my amp, set my gains, hooked up the sub, and I am getting zero output out of the sub. The sub is an SSA Icon D2 10", wired in parallel to 1ohm. The amp is a Sundown SAE-1000D, bought refurbished from DB-r. Headunit is a Pioneer DEH-P6000D for reference. It is hooked up exactly like this, except I only have one positive and one negative coming from the subwoofer, and they are connected to the positive on the left, and the negative on the left. I played a 50hz test tune, set my volume to 45/60, and adjusted the gain until it was at 30V at the speaker terminals on the amp. (a little below 31.6, figured that would keep me on the safe side) Then I hooked u…

  19. I've talked to him alot about this setup... putting the rear deck back in, metal and all (it bolts in an out), has only a few tenths effect on the score so this is a REAL trunk build. It has done as much as 153.1 dB to date -- on the dash. And 152s at the head-rest... in the 40-44 Hz region. Scores done with seats locked in the upright position. SAZ-4500D is wired to 1 ohm. I'll get him to send me some pictures of the scores when his internet is back up -- and videos too. They are stock SA-12s straight out of the factory box. No modifications to them.

Need some opinions! I am gonna be running a 3000d. I am gonna have good electrical. Should I stick with the 1ohm load and see what kind of power I can get out not dropping below 13 volts or since I have the electrical to back it up go with .5? What kinda power difference will I see?

  21. So I just purchased a Sundown SA12D4 installed it and had about an hour worth of play before it decided to go out on me that same day. I have it hooked up to an Alpine MRX M110 rated at 1100 rms at 2ohm, wired with kunconceptz kolossus flex 4 gauge kit, Kinetik hc2000 for power source (battery is located in the back), and a ported enclosure 1.75 cubic feet tuned at 35hz. I had the gain a little less than half to break sub in first when it started to smell really bad then almost immediately it blewi think and now it sounds like crap. Ive had these subs before amd over powere them without any issues. Do you think its worth the hassle going through the warranty exchange...…

Just wondering... Has anything more happened w/ this sub? Testing, specs, I'm not even gonna say that three letter acronym Jacob hates so much! I will be upgrading my system in about 1.5 years, and I am trying to get a head start on researching subs! Do you think you will offer the copper coil on these beasts to lower the Fs to under 30? Thanks man!

  23. Started by Don Ganso,

Is it o.k. to run a .67 load on one of the SAZ models? I am currently feelin' around the forum to find out what I want to do with my sub stage and might do three SA-8s. Before I get too carried away, I wanted to make sure that it would be safe to run 3 D4 SA-8s off of an SAZ model amp, (currently the 1000D but beefing up to a used 2000D in the future for comps and such). I suppose the second question would then be: As long as I keep the box small and watch the volume knob when I'm daily driving, would it be safe to run the afore-mentioned subs off an SAZ-2000D? I don't know for certain, but wouldn't that be 3000 watts-ish? Thanks for any help in advance P.S. I didn'…
