I have a jl 500/1 gains are supposed to be set at 31.6 v ac. I have tried two different decks at 3/4 volume with bass flat and with the gain turned all the way down Im getting 40 volts using 50hz signal at 0db. the sub 12w6 sounds loud with the test cd but barely audible with music. Is there anything obvious to look for? thanks Todd

1) Low voltage. Most car charging systems aren't equipped to handle the extra strain of amplifiers without some sort of help, if this is the case you may need to add, a capacitor or battery. 2) Blown sub. Sometimes when you blow a subwoofer, it can take your amp down with it, most amp's will go in to protect before this happens, but not always. 3) Over driving the amp. If you max the gain, and bass boost on your amplifier, you can cause all sorts of problems, including blown fuses. 4) Loose or bad connections. Check your connections to the battery, and ground, sometimes a loose connection will play, but cause your amp to over heat by working to hard to produce it's power.…

Hi everyone im going to be running a kicker component set for my front stage and in my back seat i will have selenium super tweeters the component set is 4 ohms, but the super tweeters are 8 ohms, the component set is 100rms per pair (driver and tweeter) and the super tweeters are 100rms each. i plan to buy a sundown 100.4 now for the speaker system. is it ok to run everything per channel? what ohm load would everything be? i assume 4ohm and is that ok for the supertweeters? this all sounded good in my head but now physically its lookin a mess lol... please dont judge my decision to get supertweeters, i know i will enjoy them.. this would be my first build with supert…

So I have a friend that wants to replace her amp and sub that came with her 07 Ford Edge. The sub sucks and the amp just doesn't have enough power for her. Is there a way to install an after market amp wihout having to buy a processor like a RF 3sixty or AudioContro DSP? Sorry if this is a silly question, I would like to tell her all her options. Thanks.

So while I was deployed to the middle east I acquired my car audio equipment. But now I'd like to know what amp alternators and batteries would work best for my system. I'll be running a 15 BTL off of a Soundstream DTR2200 which should push 2200 watts to 1 ohm. I'll also have a 4 channel Soundstream amp pushing 100 watts a piece to 4 6.5s in the doors of my Tahoe. It'll be ran off of a Pioneer deck. I've heard al lot about Optima batteries but have read mixed reviews on them. As far as alternators, I'm open to any decent brand that audiophiles have had luck with. Thanks in advance for the help.

I have noticed on DCsoundlab the difference in RMS output power from 16V to 18V 14.4V 4 ohm 900W x 1 2 ohm 2,300W x 1 1 ohm 5,000W x 1 1 ohm 16V 6,000W x 1 1 ohm 18V 7,300W x 1 http://www.dcsoundlab.com/5k.html These are the specs for the DC 5K. Now when the bass hits hard on my current 12V setup, I dip from 14.4V to 12.3V If I ran an 18V setup, and dipped to 16.3V while playing music, does that mean the RMS output power would dip at least 1,000 watts? Thank you.

ok, for setting gains with the DMM method, do i use 0dB tones, or can i get away with using, say -6dB or -3dB tones? I've heard recommendations for using as much as -6dB tone (that seems a little much to me) so i guess what I'm asking is how loud does most music get? does it regularly hit 0dB, or more like -3, -6, etc?

I was on Knu Konceptz and was looking at an In-Line Waterproof ANL Fuse Holder w/ Fuse and KonFUSED 2 Way Digital Distribution System. I was wondering what fuses i would need? i have a 1/0AWG power that will split into a 4AWG and 8AWG for the two amps. the fuses on each of the amps is 40 and 90.

Ok, so iv been looking at power capabilities of wire sizes and im only running 4 gauge to the back of of my trunk. Now according to 12volt, with the length of the wire it will only be able to take around 600 watts rms of power. Would running my amplifier at 1 ohm, 1500 wrms, stress/overheat the wire? If this is true, maybe ill just run my amp at 4 ohms, (375 wrms) until i can run some 0 or 2 gauge wire once i buy it.

Iv recently blown my Alpine 1000.1 amplifier so i decided to replace it with an older PG Xenon 1200.1 i had lying around. I was looking at the control knobs and noticed it only has a Bass boost option, but no gain setting. Iv looked it up and its a bass boost knob for 45hz, 0-18db. I was just curious how i would go along setting this boost without a gain setting as well. Also, how should i set my deck settings along with this? I'm running 2 Alpine Type X 10" subwoofers in a ported box if that helps. Thanks -Mike

Hi all, need some help, planning on installing my 200amp alt today. I see the factory wiring in my 98 GMC jimmy has an 8 guage going from (i think) alternator all the way to the fuse box then back to the battery? correct? now i have a piece of 4 gauge from a previous install around 16" long. the big question is can i just run directly from the alt to the battery? and if so what do i do with the factory stuff going to the fuse box? just leave it? or will that blow the fuse in the fuse box and cause problems? or should i disconnect it and just let it dangle? my battery is a 3 year old (weak) ac delco 680 c.a or c.c.a cant remember, and i did ground the battery to the frame …

Was curious if anyone knew if this would fit or be able to install in a 2005 jimmy. On crutchfield when I fill in my year make and model it says it cant be installed. This does not make sence to me as its not a huge double din or anything. The response only meen they don't have the kit for it? Maybe a kit for this model to work with a Jimmy doesnt exhist anymore? I don't know why a reg size deck would not work. car= 2005 jimmy 2door. No bells and whistles. standard, no steering wheel controls or anything. 1st piece to go with: Hertz HSK165 6.5 components for front. Fi Q12 in ported enclosure Soundqubed Q1-1200D at 1ohm Soundqubed Q4-120 for components.

Well I recently (2 weeks ago) purchased a Brand New Volkswagen GTI and it just turned 1000miles so it's time to play (I told myself that I'd at least drive it for 1k miles before tearing it apart.) Anyhow, I'm looking into processors, line level converters, ect.. I'd like to keep the factory deck, It's a in dash 6 disc with aux in and Sirius so I'd like to keep it for now (I've never ran a stock so this will be a new adventure) What I'm looking to do is just get some better sound.. I'll probably throw a five channel amp in there with a single 10 and leave the stock mids intact for now . Currently the stock setup sounds terrible... I've never heard a factory set sound so …

Well, it is finally time for me to get a new head unit for the Bronco. I really like the Alpine cda-7893 that is in it now but it's from 2002 and is cd only. The Alpine skips like crazy now when I try to get some decent bass going in there and I need to begin testing for next season so I'm going to purchase a new unit with usb. I'm looking for some suggestions on other units that I may have overlooked and some opinions on the few that I'm already interested in. Here's the list of requirements: 1)Single DIN 2)3 preouts 3) USB (front really preferred) 4) Ability to play cds Here's the list of units that I'm thinking about: Kenwood KDC - x895 (I like this one and will probab…
