Ok, so I'm very curious on learning about electronics, and repairing/diagnosing. First, I want to get opinions on where do I need to start. I've read a pretty good bit of info so far, but seem I've limited to what I can learn without doing it. As I'm a more hands on type, only way I can learn and understand is if I do it. And or if I'm confused about something, having somebody connect the dots I'm missing, then it clicks and I understand. So far I haven't found much on actually repairing car audio amps, most is just electronics in general. Which I guess is the same, just seems I get over my head easy because I don't know the basics yet. Basically I'm looking for pointers…

I've been looking around most of the forums and the only replies are "I wouldn't do it", but the question is never answered. Is it as simple as strapping two similar amps per coil or is there more to it. Also, can you put more than two amps per coil. If so, how. Thanks

  5. So im helping my buddy hook up his little system but ive come to a blank.. he wants an amp for his sub then an amp for his speakers. ive done this type of installation only once and i think i got lucky but ill get to the point, um how do you wire two amps in one car ? so to my knowledge, pos and neg from battery to distribution block, then two pos and neg to the two amps. right? for the headunit im also a little confused, both amps only have inputs so how do i split the rcas? im guessing some type of wire splitter for those and both amps have two inputs? and for the remote, do i use a distribution block for that or is it possible to put it in one amp and then to the o…

hey guys does anybody know how you would wire this qvc beast? I know you would take a pair of the voice coils and wire them to an amp. So im guessing you would do the same to the other side. Heres my question, when wiring separate sides of the speaker to its amp would you wire as you normaly do or is there a special way? IM goin to put one amp per pair of coils, i just want to make sure i get 1ohm power from each. so would i just wire each side to 1ohm or is there a special way with a qvc sub?

  8. So I failed to mark the ground terminal on my Dynaudio MD 100 tweeter when I took it apart as I want to paint the surround black (don't care for the grey). Now I find that I can't tell which is the '+' side as the speaker will go back in either way and the posts are identical. I took it's twin apart more carefully but find the opposite terminal was '+' on it's surround case. Now I'm more confused than usual. Are these tweeters not phase sensistive?

I am building a small sub box for my 2001 S10 ext cab ZR2 using a shallow mount MB Quart driver. I'll be mounting on the rear wall of the cab. Anyway I pulled off that rear wall panel and discovered there is a cavity where I should be able to do some good in terms of sound deadening and wondered if using regular spray foam found at home depot will actually do some good? Is it dense enough to stop sound or should I be thinking about another solution? Mind you I'm just looking to have it better than it was to cut down on road noise since I've got that area opened up...not looking to spend a lot of money or have to order more products in.

Can anyone give me some ideas on fixing these cracks in my car's trunk floor? I'm aiming to get a good seal so it won't leak and for it too not crack again once I put my sub back in. Oh and I'm trying to spend as little money as possible so I could use some cheap ideas. I appreciate any input. Goes past the deadening to where my finger is.. And then there's this..

  14. It has been debated rather hotly for years, and now it has become pretty much accepted that MP3 and sound quality do not mix. But why is it? Why do some people hear so much loss in their systems and others don’t? Are my old ears really better then someone 30 years my junior? Someone who still has a large amount of their hearing range left, while mine has deteriorated over the years should be able to hear these losses better then I! I started with home tower speakers in the back seat of my old Delta88 back in the days when we had no real systems, and we still had post mounted tape decks and 8-tracks. Then times changed, and we started putting in tape decks with trunk mount…

Power compression is a topic that is rarely discussed, but always important. When you hear someone call various theile/small parameters a “small signal parameter”, the implication is that with larger signals (more power), there will be a shift or change in these theile/small parameters. This is what we call power compression, and occurs in 3 potential ways. The first thing to consider is how theile/small parameters are derived. There are 5 basic parameters from which all other data is extracted. These parameters are Re, BL, Mms, Sd, and Cms. So looking at this from a mathematical standpoint, a change in any of these parameters will cause a change in all other parameters a…

Well guys maybe one of you can help me out. I have/had in my SUV a Tc sound axis 12 and was playing it on my orion 275rhcca amp at 1ohm and it was slammin UNTIL it started to rattle So after i removed it from the box i noticed that the whole spider assembly came unglued from the basket/spider landing . Now this is my question I'm sure that its covered under warranty but what are my chances of reglueing it my self? It's not about if i can do it but rather will it be worth it in the long run so to speak. I don't think it will be a problem aligning the coil as it seems to rest snugly in one spot where the LITTLE bit of glue originally was. I have a pair of them and I'm …

  20. As most of you know, I do measurements for a living. So I have a few pet peeves about how things are done in this industry. Nothing is standardized and the accuracy of everything is questionable and typically quite subjective. In this thread, I would like to address something I would like to see standardized and that is the sensitivity of loudspeakers. There are a lot of you car audio nuts that are afraid to run home audio drivers in your car due to the fact they are 8ohms, but you really shouldn
