I have a 98 s10 ext cab, have not chosen box specifications, or an amp yet. For the amp I'm thinking about getting a 1500 watt audiopipe. For the box I plan to go ported. Which would be louder and with deeper bass 2 12" gcons which are 750 rms or 1 12" icon which is 1250 rms?

All, I'm looking to run a pair of 12's in a sealed enclosure (1.00-1.25 ft^3 per) @ 600W RMS to each sub. Would I be losing any significant performance by under powering these subwoofers? I understand that they are rated for 750W RMS but I am limited to a total of 1200W RMS and would like to run 2-12s in a sealed enclosure due to my trunk-space limitations. Also, should these perform well in a relatively small sealed enclosure or is 1.0-1.25 FT^3 too little? What is the current lead time on the GCONS? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, SnapperKing

So yesterday i installed my new 10" Icon with a 125.2 Sundown. And install went fine, little trouble with the Line Out Convertor, but we worked through it. After it was all installed and setup good we started messing with tuning, and man this setup was POUNDING away on my BMW!! I mean for a 10 and the 125 to be hitting this hard was amazing. Cutting the story short i was driving home and had the music going nothing outrageous just listing to the radio. I get up this morning to do some final touches and noticed that my license plate had rattled off on my way home!!! I thought it was hilarious!!! Well that is my little plug/review of my new SSA/Sundown system!! Thanks.

I have a 350z and I was looking for a good sub to have ported....i know dustin from dc creations and okc and he said i should check out the gcon. Reason for the gcon is that I wanna use my old amp i still have which is ED nine.1 monoblock. The problem I was having was the space issue and and the weird shape of my trunk with the strut bar in the back. I was hoping this would be a good combo for my car cause im tired of not having any lows. I was originally gonna get a SA8 or a 10 but Dustin said these subs are pretty bad-A. Any help from ppl that have messed with a Z or know if i should take a different route or any help would be great.

  9. I'm curious what the main sound difference would be between a 1 vs 1.25 cu ft box tuned to 30 hz? I'm trying to build a custom box in my fusion against the passenger side wall in my trunk. I can maybe get 1.2 cu ft if I run the port outside the box, otherwise I'm looking at a net of closer to 1 with a round port. Alo, how important is it for the port to fire out on the same plane as the woofer? Would it be ok to let it fire out the side toward the rear seats with the woofer firing across the trunk? Thanks

Alright, with all the outstanding reviews, and everything I've heard about quality and customer service, I'm getting a ssa sub. But, which? I've thought about going with the xcon, but I just think that will be too much for me. (Possible?) My last sub was a 15" spl sub, but was ridiculously underpowered. The last correctly powered sub I was running was a 12" kicker l7. I want something louder, and cleaner. Would an icon be enough? Take note, the l7 was in an nasty prefab box, and was in the trunk of a 1991 Chevy Lumina. The ssa will be in the back of a 2000 celica, with the right box. So, icon or xcon? I'll be most likely running it on a 1000w mono block from kicker. But,…

I've been trying to decide what enclosure to build for my 1 12" D2 Icon. Like most members here I listen to all types of music, but personally lean heavily toward rock/metal. As a musician, I am plagued with a trained ear (good for recording, bad when analyzing car audio) so SQ is top priority. I had the Icon in a stuffed 1.15 sealed box powered by a Crossfire vr600 in the past. I loved everything about it (clean, accurate and smooth with tons of depth). Very toneful. I took the system out of the car last year and ended up giving the box away to a friend. I recently got the itch back and getting ready for the re-install. Seems like 99% of members here prefer ported which …

Icon 12" sealed or a Icon 10" ported? Should have added, I meant in ideal boxes. Also, I would like to tune the box to 15-20hz since my amp does not have an SSF. I've got a blown 12" icon that i'll either fix or swap for a 10" and port. The 12" port box is just to big.

I am thinking about buying a 12'' icon and was wondering about how much power they can handle daily? I currently have a sundown saz1500.1 and don't really want to change that. I no this is a sq oriented sub but i would be running it for spl, i no this sounds kinda dumb but i currently run a fi q. Does anyone have any numbers on a 12 or any icon?

Getting my new ICON here soon and was just wondering which route I should go for hooking it up. I have an Audioque 1200d amp, so its 1200w @ 1ohm and 870w @ 2ohm. I was planning on giving the sub the 1200w, but I'm wondering if I should go the 870w route. More or less, I'll be unpacking the sub, installing it, and then hitting the road for a long road trip... so its going to see a lot of use right out of the box. Would it still be ok to go with the 1200w, or is the 870w a safer route? Thanks!

Currently running JL 12w3's in a ported box @30hz with 900 watt rms. They get low and don't sound bad at all. But not real loud. Not looking to up my power, and am very curious to try a different brand. Thinking of the dcon 15's. But it will be easier to stick with 12's. So my question is will the dcon 12's give more output than my w3's on 900 watt rms in a 4 cu ft box at 30hz. Or should I just save for the 15's and a new box?? Hoping someone here had experience with the w3's and the dcon's and can chime in.

Alright so I just got everything I need for my install, for the most part. Equipment as follows... Alpine 7897 FantomFace HU SSA Icon 10 d2 Sundown SAE-1200D Soundstream 5.25 Edge Comps Alpine MRP-F250 1/0 + all other wires It is going in a Buick LeSabre, so box size is not a problem and I am aware that the optimal box size is 1.35 ft^3 tuned at 27-33 hz. This is just a daily driver and I just wanted a good sounding system with the potential to get loud so I think what i have is pretty well suited for my expectations. I listen to mostly rap/hip hop, and occasionally classic rock and alternative type music, but rap for the majority. Should I stick to 1.35 cu ft or does an…

  21. I have a customer that wants to use either of subwoofers mentioned for a silverado install. Which ever model is used is dependent upon which subwoofer will fit given the design of the enclosure and the customer has already told me he has tired to obtain the same information with no response.

  22. I know the "is X better than Y" questions are annoying, but I'm looking to upgrade from my current set up and the DCONs seem to fit the bill. They fit the budget of $300 and the RMS ratings line up. Everything else I've looked at has much higher RMS ratings and would be better suited to running one sub off of the amp. For substage, I'm currently running four RE Audio REX 8" subs sealed in .42 cu ft each. They are being driven by an Alpine PDX-1.600 with 600w RMS (birth sheet says 666w, it's the Amp of the Beast). Overall, I have been satisfied with them - if do upgrade, they will go into my Silverado. That being said, I'm looking for more output and an upgrade in o…
