Old school Japanese Rek-oKut wannabe with a Velvet Touch tonearm, a Japanese clone of a gray tonearm. It uses a Pickering/Stanton 380 cartridge, it's a stereo cart. I've been cocking with the turntable for a day now......it really suprised me how good it sounds connected to a SS integrated amp. It ain't perfect, and has some small issues with hum I need to address. Wish I had tube phono pre-amp. I suppose I better breadboard something up that's simple. I wanna hear it through tube amplifiers, not some weedy assed sounding vintage SS integrated. My LaScalas reject mediocre tier SS vintage amplifiers/receivers. KS Musicmaster Mike

  3. So I know this will sound completely noob-tastic, but I was wondering how you would power a sub if you wanted to make a high power home audio setup.

I have a set of older cabinet speakers with 15" subs. The foam surround has disintegrated for a lack of a better word. I'd like to keep the speakers. The cabinet was made by a friend out of birch many years ago and he did an amazing job with them. Where or how would one go about getting them replaced, and if so, would it be worth the cost and expense. I'd do it myself if it was easy enough. Any advice would be appreciated.

Well I am looking to get some good Vinyl Cleaner. I am listening to Pink Floyd-Meddle and damn does this record need some cleaning. I have just been using a microfiber cloth to get the dust off but doesn't always work the best. Any suggestion for a product in the reasonable price range or technique? I've seen people clean vinyls using wood glue bat that is far too time consuming and uses lots of glue. Thanks for any help here

  9. First off let me start by saying i have no idea about anything when it comes to home audio.. i do know a lot about car audio though.. i don't know it that matters. The room is 10ft 1in x 10ft 6in x 10ft (ceiling) - its a entertainment room. My goal is to have something that sounds good when i Call Of Duty, watch Transformers and listen to Gucci Man. My budget is around 500 dollars. What i have in my head is some speakers in the corners of the ceiling, a sub woofer and speakers to put on stands and shit. - i dont know if thats an over-kill for what im trying to do or not.. the room is pretty small so i dont think it would take much.. Thanks for your time and if you need mo…

I basically need a receiver with a sub pre out and has to be a decent quality unit. Is this the one for me? Im running a 2.1 setup with some dayton 8s and a Fi Q18 powered by a dayton 1000w free standing amp.

I just picked up a Yamaha R-V503 for $6.99! I'm the processing of going through the thing to make sure everything works and was wondering if anyone had a 5.1 track I could download? I'm not really a movie fan so I don't own a single movie; nor have I ever illegally downloaded one. Doesn't need to be anything spectacular. I would just like to make sure "Dolby logic pro surround decoder" works. Thanks in advance! Oh! And I realize it's kind of a waste of time to make sure the 5.1 works if I don't watch movies and thus don't listen to anything recorded in 5.1, but I'm considering reselling this unit if I could get north of $50 for it.

Finally getting around to designing a H/T for our new house. Substage will be a McCauley 6174 in a 12ft3 4th order vented at around 18Hz powered by an Adcom GFA 555. I picked a clean Sony ES on Facebook Marketplace for almost nothing. Front L/R and rears are Paradigm in walls, their reference series, should be pretty good. For the center channel I designed a large line array with 2 sets of 5 drivers in Bessel arrangements flaking a Peerless 1 1/8” dome. Hopefully I’ll have some build pics in the next few weeks. I am really looking forward to the sub stage. I have used the 6174 in many pro audio builds before, but not in a small H/T.

A little over a year ago a older good audio friend picked up some B&C 12CXB's off eBay. He kept emailing me saying that he really liked these coaxials, and that I'd better jump on a pair before they were gone. I kinda held out for awhile, because folks tend to change their point of view over a period of time with audio gear. He never did, and kept razzing me to get a pair. He finally worked a deal with the seller for a I can't pass it up kind of deal..... We both have listened to the B&C 12CXT, and liked that coaxial, but both prefer the bit more lively sound of the compression tweeter used with the 12CXB. Older ears I suppose. I mounted and experimented with port…

  19. Need some advice\input, Looking to build an outdoor\patio subwoofer enclosure and find a suitable subwoofer to put in it. I am completely new to outdoor audio, my initial thoughts were a marine subwoofer and a birch box doused in resin and truck bedliner? Again, TOTALLY new to all of this so i may be way off. Whatever the sub and enclosure material, they will both need to stand up to the very muggy, hot central indiana summer weather. Sealed or possibly PR enclosure, Will be powered by a dayton 150 watt amp. Any and all input is greatly appreciated, thanks.

I don't know if there is anything that can be done, but just thought I'd ask. I have two old infinity cabs that are sealed and some random Phillips speakers from a mini Hi-Fi system sitting on top, all power by a Pioneer receiver, nothing special, just gets the job done for my bedroom. I noticed the other day when playing some rap with higher bass (say 50-60hz) that the lows are MUCH louder when I'm standing in the doorway to my room... WTF? Its like my room is an enclosure and the door is the port or something? Any way, is there something that can be done to make it louder inside my room instead of on the way out of my room? Thanks, Mike B.

What is usually used to mount all the parts? Piece of wood? Plastic? How do you ground the parts also. I was looking at pictures on madisound to get an idea and i understand that a ground has to be grounded to metal but how do i attach the metal to the base? Do i need to build one crossover for each bookshelf speaker?

Hey guys, hope you can help with some info, I'm building a sub for my home theater, using the RL-p15 and a QSC RMX1450, the amp is rated at 1400 watts at 2 ohms bridged. What would be my best option for hook-up to the amp, Dual 2 or 4ohm? Dual 2 ohm- one coil each side, or dual 4ohm to 2ohm bridged? Also this will be a ported enclosure, I can't do the 10 cu ft as stated as optimal, whats a good compromise betwen optimal and minimum sq ft for this set-up? thanks in advance!

I've got a Kenwood HTIB (the 504, I think) that I've had for a number of years. It does the job, but I'd like to play around with it and replace the sub. The only info I can find on it is that it's an 8" sub, has a nominal impedance of 4 ohms and the amp does 100 watts at 4 ohms. Does anyone have any idea of what sub might work as a drop in replacement? Or, should I just take a shot in the dark and try something out? I've been looking on Parts Express.

Well at work some lady brought in an old Zenith Solid State turntable. I wasn't sure about the model number. All I found was this number(Z565W-157309) and a google search got me nothing. It works and everything but the lady said it sound "horrid". My first guess was that the electrolytic coupling caps are bad and probably those in the PS supply. Should I go ahead with replacing the larger electrolytics or does anyone have any other suggestions where to start?
