  1. So guys, i'm frustrated with my system to a certain degree, i currently have my mains as a cerwin vega e-312 pair...they're ok but the enclosure is mostly sub -tiny midrange and a tweeter. It feels like my entire ht is subsonic lol- coupled with the 2 15's subwoofers covering the lfe channel. I want more midrange and midbass particularly for music - i want to hear actual bass timbre from a guitar like a cab. I'm thinking about the eminence beta 8a's which are readily available in my country. I wanna pair em with a soft dome-dayton probably -crossed at 3k maybe. I'm not sure how to model this, I've thrown it into winisd and i'm not too sure if i trust it. But any enclosu…

  2. [Note] This is a re-post of my "newbie" 3/31/08 post, based on recommendation of member "denim" Mike R newbie original post Hi; I got here via my build thread on "The IB cult site", Mike R DIY IB subwoofer project. Mike R IB sub project on "Cult of IB" forum As newbie here this is my 1st post. (well, this is my 2nd post now...) To make a long story sorta short, I'm finishing my basement and doing a Home Theatre room, and I'm going with Infinite Baffle subwoofer 4 x 15" (or 18") line array. Here is a pict of that image (details in link above): I cut the concrete window this past weekend and now I need to fill that hole with a IB line array subwoofer! 16" x 66" IB sub "wi…

Hello. I am currently wanting to redo my setup to a nice bookshelf, center channel, and sub setup. I already have a nice sub so I'll keep that and use what I have now for something else. My budget is about $600 for the the bookshelfs and the center channel. I currently have these speaker stands http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.c...FTOKEN=79969804 and wish to keep them. However, I think this may restrict the height of my bookshelfs. The center channel will be placed under the TV. Any suggestions?

Ok so I should have my mli65's tomorrow and I was thinking about using them in some book shelf style speakers I could use with a reciever off of my computer. I plan on matching them up with some sort of tweeter (any ideas?) And doing the top in some thiner laminate with some rod supporting it. Let me say I suck at sketchup and this drawing is not to scale. If I did the math right though it should end up at 4.5' and 28'^2 the whole way 7"x4". Any thoughts comments concerns? Oh and I will be using 1/2" Baltic only because I think anything more will be overkill. I may end up doing a kerf kut or two too in the port area. We'll see. I play things by ear

Here it is boys and girls. My first post with pics. So I got these floorstanders back in 96. I was just out of high school, and had no clue. I wanted a home theater with bass. No better way of getting that then with big woofers, so with my pay check I did just that. I bought the biggest ones Montgomery Wards had, that I could afford. Long story short I was satisfied with my purchase. Fast forward a decade and a half. I'm out of my parents house in my own with a wife and kids. I look in my parents shed and look what I find, my old Jensens. I think to myself, these were the sh!t back then, let's hook them back up. I've got a new setup, all the latest and greatest. I hook th…

If no one remembers, I'd previously tried finding adequate speakers for apartment/dorm parties. I'm back at it again. Most parties consist of two at least 12" PA systems. I have 2 of these: http://powerwerks.com/page/PW50-20.aspx They're adequate, but have little midbass and no low-frequency ability. Something like this: http://www.pitbullaudio.com/live-sound/speakers/powerwerks-pw15ps-100-watt-active-powered-15-pa-speaker-monitor-cabinet.html is more like what you see when you go out. I've also seen double stacked 15" cabinets, but I'm not looking for something so huge. Questions: Should I simply get a sub for the setup I currently have? Should I only add the 1…

I finally got them BOTH done and hooked up. I'm not putting a finish on them. They look fine to me. They're made out of 3/4" MDF with oak laminated onto them. On the edges you can see the MDF, but at this point, not a big deal to me. These needed to stay rather cheap so I didn't buy very nice wood. Each tower houses 2 Dayton DC160s (8ohm versions), one HiVi TN28 (6 ohms) and an 8 ohm 3khz passive crossover(from Partsexpress). Both towers are powered by a Dayton APA150 in stereo mode, running at just under 4 ohms. The source of audio is my computer. These things sound awesome. They respond very audibly into the low 40s, and audibly into the 30s. The best word I can think o…

i posted about this on another forum, but didnt get much help..however i have more ideas about it now... i got a set of computer speakers (edifier s5.1) i find the speakers themselves to be more than adequate, and the sub is very musical, however the subwoofer is very lacking in volume and spl, and i believe due to its tuning sounds horrible on certain notes, so i want to improve on it in the most inexpensive way i can... i was thinking i could build a sub in a box with a plate amp, and hook it right up to the sub input on the sound card, then just have the edifiers go to the rest of the inputs..which i know is very ghetto but i think it would do what i want it to do... m…

  12. Just recently acquired a pair of Klipsch Epic series CF-2's and a Klipsch SW-12. I am currently running the speakers off a yamaha rx 395. all circa 1995. The speakers sound amazing! They are able to get very loud and still play very clear. I love them. I cannot say the same for the sub. The sub was blown when I got it (got it all for free from pop). I am looking at putting in a new Dvc 4 ohm sub in it. I am not sure which I should go with. I was suggested a dcon or 187. The amp is 150 rms into 8 ohms The enclosure is a 12" bass reflex enclosure with 12" passive radiator. dimensions are 23.5" H x 15.625" W x 16.49" D. What sub would work best with this enclosure? Are the…

  14. Edit That setup is long gone, but I do have a question at the bottom of this thread! To celebrate a new job, i'm going to splurge on a new set of speakers, preamp, wires, some sleeving to hide it all, etc. I'm pretty sure I know what I'd like to get, especially the bookshelf speakers, as I've heard a pair in person and absolutely loved them. The tweeters especially, light airy crisp, but on to the list. What do you guys think? Once I decide on all this, I'm going to rebuild the box for the BTL to be a little more solid, but for now it's getting bedlinered and spiked. The speakers: JBL LSR308's http://www.parts-express.com/jbl-lsr308-3-…

made a thread a while back on this, i never got around to taking pics after i hung the tv. i gotta get back up the attic and shim up the left side of the tv, becuase the trusses arent perfectly level in the attic. either way, its really the only way i could have mounted it, and its a nice viewing position from my bed. had i used a normal wall mount and put it on the wall, it wouldnt be angled towards my bed any. anyways, heres the pics. the tv speakers are removable, and will be removed, once i get a 2.1 setup to replace it with. had to put it on SSA before the pic haha this is laying in my bed questions- should i buy a simple 2.1 setup, or should i make a DIY setup fro…

The Subwoofer output from the AV receiver is two-wire (Pos and neg) but the new Subwoofer has a single RCA jack input. Someone suggested using an LLC, but I have no experience in this area.

  22. So my fraternity wants me to build a sound system for our basement when we have parties. The basement can easily fit over 300 people. It is 4 appartment's basements that connect into one (I will post pictures when I get back from spring break). What they told me they want is "We want this to be as loud as humanly possible and incredibly bassy." I am not a pro audio kind of guy and do not know much about it. Is there anywhere I can find beginner information on how to have everything set up? This is going to be set up more like a club and I do not know where to find information on that. Anything will be helpful. Thanks, Chris

  23. My father is looking for a very good receiver for his home theater. He wants something that can use an ipod docking station He has an Onkyo TX-SR603 right now but it took a crap on him and blew out all the tweets so he just wants to get another amp instead of having it fixed. I know nothing about HT so I really need your help. This is what he wants: 1. of course a 5.1 or 7.1 it doesn't have to be THX certified. 2. He wants to be able to put an ipod to it (via docking station) 3. 80-100 watts per channel 4. he also has an amp so he wants to be able to connect that amp to the receiver. 5. budget around $350-$600 As far as I know he's just using regular speaker connections (…

  24. Hello everyone, I will be getting a new car come this winter and won't be putting my current sound system into the new car. Instead, I decided I would take the subs and box out and put them in my room. I didn't want to use my car amp and have to find a power supply or any of that mess so I've been doing some research and I think I need something like the amp in the link below. First, a little background on my equipment. I'm running (4) 10" SSA Dcons off of a Sundown 1000D. Something funky was going on with the SSA subs when I was ordering them and instead of getting a 2-ohm DVC they had to give me 4-ohm SVC (I may be wrong with that but if aI recall correctly that is what…

I am looking to get a rack mount amp to use in my room to power 2 AQ 15's. I am looking at the Behringer ep2500 and the GTD Audio GD-750. I can get both for the same price. I know that the Behringer is more widely used and known for a good 2400 RMS but the GTD is 2 x 2250 @ 2 ohms, so it is almost double power and the same price. I want to know if anyone has experience with the GTD or if anyone has heard anything about the GTD amp. Depending on how the GTD performs will help me decide what amp to use.
