So since my first box I have wanted to do an enclosure with no space restrictions. A build that focuses on cone area and low tuning. Subs are HDS200's (ordered one already to see if I like them, I will post pictures here when it gets here) Soundqubed is very vague with there enclosure recommendations and i'm looking for a more specialized design My first dilemma is with the box and is if I should go with a 2x2 pattern such as this: Or a 4x1 pattern such as this: (ported though) My only real limits are what can fit through my doorframe's in my house. I was playing with the RE Box Calculator and I can make both styles fit. I want bet…

I have a small home studio which I use to produce music and also DJ. Obviously SQ is really my only concern. My studio's audio setup consists of the following components (in the spoler): Anyways, back on topic... I've been reading more in depth on other types of sub enclosures/designs such as IB. My priority in design is SQ. SPL is not much of a concern. An IB setup almost seems like the perfect studio subwoofer design on paper. Assuming it's correctly done, near flat frequency response, extremely low distortion, great transient response.... At least that's what I gathered from reading, but with the difficulty involved in properly designing a true IB setup, it might …

I've got plans to build something dirt cheap for my apartment. I don't know if the difference in 5.1 and 7.1 is necessary or not. I am 100% honest with this subject, I know jack dick about Home Audio. Our company does ultra high dollar installations and sells equipment so getting a receiver shouldn't be too much. I'm interested in how to go about building inexpensive driver setups. I think Arrays are pretty damn cool, is this an option?

I'm looking for a subwoofer and speakers to use in a 2.1 bedroom home theater/listening set up. I have in mind Using a 150-300w (Was looking at the bash 300w plate amp but not sure about if I like the auto on/off) plate or regular amp (up for debate). Info: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=300-750 As far as subwoofer goes, I had in mind using a 10" in a T-line specifically the soundqubed SDC 2.0. mainly because I think they look awesome, there cheap, and wouldn't mind throwing it in my car one day. Im looking for a flat responce and something that sounds good. Also up for debate. Info on amp: (10" isn't showing but here's the 8")http://www.sound…

Hey Guys. I bought a Klipsch SW-450 sub for my house. I am having issues with it wanting to shake down the entire side of the house it's on, rather than provide clean crisp bass. There is lots of interior walls and small rooms near the subwoofer (laundrey, halfbath) It's located in a somewhat small foot printed nook but has lots of headspace. main floor so basement is underneath but the back wall that the port fires into is an exterior wall. Is a downfiring sub rear port a bad idea in this case? later tonight I'm going to try and fit it in an identical nook on the otherside of the living room that has two exterior walls supporting it. I'm hoping the rigidity …

If no one remembers, I'd previously tried finding adequate speakers for apartment/dorm parties. I'm back at it again. Most parties consist of two at least 12" PA systems. I have 2 of these: http://powerwerks.com/page/PW50-20.aspx They're adequate, but have little midbass and no low-frequency ability. Something like this: http://www.pitbullaudio.com/live-sound/speakers/powerwerks-pw15ps-100-watt-active-powered-15-pa-speaker-monitor-cabinet.html is more like what you see when you go out. I've also seen double stacked 15" cabinets, but I'm not looking for something so huge. Questions: Should I simply get a sub for the setup I currently have? Should I only add the 1…

What's up homies? It's been a while since I've posted anything meaningful. Here is my latest audio venture. It's the Zephyr kit by the latest audio start-up, DIY Soundgroup. A little history/search words about this kit. It's fashioned around the Econowave style, although there is nothing econo about this kit. It was designed by Jeff Bagby. And that's about all I know. My goals: 1. To have a reference sound system so I know what to listen for when tuning my auto sound system. 2. Be able to achieve nutty ass rock concert levels. 3. Finally be effing cool. Here is my start, wood! Box sides coming together. The kit came with a pre-cut baffle. The design cal…

I'm looking to build clean boxes of mids/highs and a woofer in a waist high tower. I was going to throw matching pairs of infinity 6.5s, 5.25s, and 10" unknowns in 2 towers and an RE XXX v3 in a woofer tower. Before I start building, what do I need as far as crossovers go to connect my mids highs to a 4/8 ohm load. looking to run a 400 watt receiver and a separate amp for the woofer. ANy good equip I can look for? Any recommendations for build or getting started? type of wood that looks really clean?

My Marantz is on the fritz and I haven't called a dealer yet for anything BUT .... it's about 5yrs old not that I think it's old but I wonder what its gonna cost me to fix... it does a cycle boot kinda like a computer... Turns on, screen display comes up, blue activity light comes on, then shuts of into standby and the red standby light comes on... repeat... sometimes the characters looks like Chinese on the screen display ... fckin weird and sucks.... I use this Marantz in the bedroom hooked into my PC .. The model is SR-5002. It's great but who knows if it can be repaired and stay that way... I'll look into the cost but …

Hey everybody. I went on Madisound and found some Aura 16ohm 3" full range speakers for $1. I've never done an array before but thought this would be a great opportunity to try it out. I've got two different arrays going for a surround sound. The amp Im using to power the new speakers is out of a Logitech X-530. I pulled the speaker boxes apart and took out the speakers to also use with the Aura speakers. The original speakers out of the Logitech system are 8ohm each and are wired in parallel giving a final ohm load of 4ohm. I don't know what the amp puts out in rms or anything but I've hooked up a JL 12" sub to the sub channel and it makes quite a good amount of bass on …

Aaron approached me about building a budget 2.1 setup for watching movies on his laptop. We came to the agreement to build two small towers which will have four 3" full range speakers per side arranged in a line array. Each tower will be roughly.5 cubic feet sealed after displacements. A SoundSplinter Orphan 8 will be used for subwoofer duty. The woofer enclosure is .65 cubic feet after displacements, which is rather large for the orphan but very low power is being used. Amplifier to be used: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-775 Aurasound speakers: http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/approx-3-fullrange/aurasound-ns3-193-8a1-3-black…

I will be using car audio amps in my garage. No more than a 40a draw. Will this type of power supply work for what I will be using it for? I do not want a noisy power supply introducing distortion. Before it is mentioned I do not want to use a regular home audio amp.

Figured I would post up some pics of the 2.1 PC stereo I built for my mom about a month ago. Overall they perform real well. I doubt that anything in their price range could come even close to them. The pine baffles and pieces on the subwoofer all match the knotty pine trim that my brother and I milled for my parent's addition.

My little sister is wanting a cheap little set up. Nothing fancy just something cheap and sounds halfway decent at normal listening levels. Her room is pretty small so Imaging is not a concern. She would be happy with something off the shelf from Walmart but she wants me to help build something that is hers. I'll more than likely buy a small 4 channel amp from parts express and build the crossovers and add a 3.5mm plug so she can hook her Iphone to it. I was looking at these Dayton's they are pretty cheap about 20 bucks a piece: DC28F-8 and DC160-8. My question is would y'all recommend anything else that's around the same price range. My knowledge of what's avail…

Hi all, I have been away from SSA for a while but have come back with a new idea. Again, this is just an idea or starting point to build off of and I am looking to the more knowledgeable figures on this site to guide me some. I currently have a 16' by 16' room with a cheap logitech surround sound audio set up and am looking to combine two ideas I have. I have some great sounding speaker cabinets just sitting and collection dust and want to make my own home audio setup along with a great sub system. I currently have two recliners and want a couch to replace them so I thought I would build my own sectional couch made just how i want it and for the space available. Again…
