Hello, One of my friend is building a small studio for a customer. He already has eveything for recording sessions, but he needs a complete setup to listen to the final results. He's thinking of an amp (like the Behringer EP2000 or EPX, I don't know) and a 3 way system : 2 subs(10 or 12"), 2 mids and 2 tweeters. He will build the boxes. The system he will use for recording is too "neutral" for listening sessions. So he's looking for something simple and not too expensive. I want to order from parts-express or madisound.com ONLY. Can you help me choose something complete please ? There are so much speakers to choose ! He mostly listen to reggae music, some rap and maybe z…

Here's the situation. I recently purchased a TV and surround sound system for my college apartment. I'm trying to get audio from my TV to the surround sound receiver via RCA. The problem is that the only audio output that my TV has is a coaxial output. The Receiver only has RCA inputs. Is there some sort of cable or converter type deal that can run a Coax cable and split into an RCA on the other end to put into the receiver?

i already have all the gear, pretty budget setup, just need to build 2 towers. the only place i have room for them is on my desk (its a 10' long desk i built, ill post a pic). i dont have any floor space. these are the drivers/amps i have: 4 of these 10s: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=295-485 1 of these for the subs: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-804 2 pairs of these, which for $29/pair (when i ordered them), sound GREAT IMO. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-652 1 of these, currently powering the above speakers in their stock enclosures: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumb…

Is this a ground issue with the plate amplifier? I've been using this Canton subwoofer for quite some time... I have a brother subwoofer which does not do this. I currently have them powered off of my Marantz, so when the rcvr turns on the subwoofers turn on using the 12V trigger. Should I try plugging it into a dedicated outlet??? What do you think it could be???

Hello everyone, I will be getting a new car come this winter and won't be putting my current sound system into the new car. Instead, I decided I would take the subs and box out and put them in my room. I didn't want to use my car amp and have to find a power supply or any of that mess so I've been doing some research and I think I need something like the amp in the link below. First, a little background on my equipment. I'm running (4) 10" SSA Dcons off of a Sundown 1000D. Something funky was going on with the SSA subs when I was ordering them and instead of getting a 2-ohm DVC they had to give me 4-ohm SVC (I may be wrong with that but if aI recall correctly that is what…

Alright, so I want to set a goal for myself, something to aim towards for my first project. Between saving for school and fixing my room (dog ate my carpet), i'd like to set aside a chunk of money for my 5.1 setup. If i had thought for two more seconds, i would have incorporated this into my previous thread, for the amp, but ehh. I am looking to build either four bookshelf type speakers, and a center channel, or two towers, and two rear bookshelfs, plus a center channel. I don't know anything at all about home audio. (M5 don't even post that i know nothing of car audio either, i see that coming) But, i do know my goals. This system is purely for music. I use the speakers …

I am looking for an amp for my room, a 5.1 amp/receiver, with a sub rca out for sure. I don't need a huge amount of sq, i just require it to sound good enough for a party, i.e. doesnt clip out at medium volumes up. I need it to get loud. My franken speakers are odd, in the sense that they take power very well, and sound much better than i think they should for $20 walmart speakers. I'd post a pic, but I don't feel like getting laughed at anymore. I don't care about it doing rated power (ie a pyle pro can claim 2,000w, but put out 800w), i just need at least a solid 75-125w per channel, actual output. EQ would be a cool option, not necessary. Budget is $200. Alternativel…

already picked up the mids a while back and now i'm finally getting around to putting this all together. my question is, which brand or type of components should i order to build the crossovers. here is the parts list. however, following the recommendation when used as desktop/near field R2 = 4ohm. here is the list i put together, just want to make sure im not spending too much, or not enough.. i have to place an order for speakers (bro's build), so shipping will be free from parts express. (could place the order through another site) 30 ohm 4ohm .4 mh board 4.3 uf cap .8 mh =30 bones

I know this is a pretty dumb question but I just can't find the answer with my ongoing research. I plan to build a pretty nice home system for my poolroom so we can listen to some good music while we're in the pool. I've researched for bass I need a plate amp so I'll go with either a Dayton or a Bash. But for mids and highs I'll grab a 4 channel amp like this http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0013CH7UK/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1310571806&sr=8-1 But this is the part where I'm noobish, how do I make both amps work as one? As in play the same music? Im thinking just connect RCA's but not too sure. Any help is appreciated. Thank you for your time! And for a in depth view of my pla…

I have a pair of brand new cerwin vega vs-150 woofers from the mid 90's. They are in mint shape. I need to build an enclosure for them but not sure what would work best. I found the original specs of the enclosure and calculated it to 5.1 cuft gross. They use a dual port design but obviously no idea of tuning. What would be a range I need to work with for port tuning and port area? I can estimate displacement but that's about all I have to go on. Not too familiar with building anything for an actual woofer. Thanks! Here is a pic for reference

my center channel I used 4 of the monster cubes in series/parallel, so it's the same impedance, same power going to them as the other 6 channels. It sits right in between the L and R. All three are at the edge of the entertainment stand, should be minimal loading if any at all. Why did Audyessey set the center only -1.5dB from the L and R rather then -3dB?

I am starting a IB build for my H/T in our new house. We finally bought a house that we (wife and I) really like and are trying to keep it very nice inside. I am going to design a complete 5.1 system for the living room with everything being stealth. In walls, no visible components, flat screen flushed into wall, etc... I want to have decent bass and really thought long and hard about this for the last 2 months. IB was the logical choice, but we are going to finish our 1200 ft2 basement next year, so having a big-ass manifold hanging from the floor joists down there would also be a no-no. After carefully laying out a baffle arangment that will tuck my pair of XXX18s i…

This thing is so powerful it's hard to get started, especially since I want out of the ordinary responce, not flat. Since it has 1/120th control I don't know where to start with Q... 60/120? Thats the default IIRC. I basically need to lower everything boosting nothing as I need to create a LP effect. I want 5Hz-10Hz to be 6dB above 11Hz-18Hz. I want 11Hz-18Hz to be 6dB above 19Hz-30Hz. I want 19Hz-30Hz to be 6dB above 31Hz-250Hz. This is all guesstimation, obviousely not a 6dB drop between 1Hz increments... just to give an idea of what I am after. I may simply center at 45Hz and EQ down 24dB and vary my Q until I am happy, unless I get some good feedback. Thank you for tr…

I know these pics dont/wont show up here, I have to tweak them at home theater spot, but they work everywhere else so i will post a link to my AVS thread if u want to see the pics http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1337645 After doing REW sweeps of before the port and after, I realized I was tuned much lower than I thought. Thinking 990 cubic feet realizing 1003 cubic feet (closet door closed, opened it's more like 1040 cubic feet and 4Hz tuning) and from 9Hz to 5Hz, I can't have a title that I can't correct. I have never heard of anyone tuning to 5Hz before, or venting a 1000 plus cubic foot room. So I will leave the build log, post some final pics and REW s…

I've got a Kenwood HTIB (the 504, I think) that I've had for a number of years. It does the job, but I'd like to play around with it and replace the sub. The only info I can find on it is that it's an 8" sub, has a nominal impedance of 4 ohms and the amp does 100 watts at 4 ohms. Does anyone have any idea of what sub might work as a drop in replacement? Or, should I just take a shot in the dark and try something out? I've been looking on Parts Express.

I create a lot of bass lines in the 16-35hz range and need some good headphones to listen to the music a lot better than what i am doing now.. I see the reviews for these are great but do i need to really get these for my goals? In a few hours from now, i'm planning on buying a used pair of these for around $150. I like them because of their insane power capability without the requirement of an amp. That's something i keep reading that many people like about them.. that and the fact on how low they drop. Any other headphones out there for my goals that may be cheaper without the need for an amp?

Has anyone on here done anything similar to the setup I just described? I found some really nice Behringer emminence Horns (neodymium) and I wanted to incorperate these bad boys into it. I could power both loudspeakers with an EP4000. and then I would have to have separate amp for the horns. Of course I would have to create some crossovers too. I feel like these would be an amazing build. I really enjoy loud music and I feel like this setup will get me what I want.

I've recently caught bass fever and now my home setup just won't due. This being said I have a spare 600 watt amp and was planning to hook up a sub on my home system. I looked into modifying a computer psu to power the car amp over other solutions simply because I build computers as well and have a few laying around. The only thing I'm unsure of is this... am I going to need a power supply over 600 watts to power the amp? I don't plan on maxing it out but even if I were to I wasn't sure if I just needed any old 12 volt rail considering thats all a car battery is.

I've been into car audio for a long time, and this is the first time I've ever even attempted dabbling in home audio, so I'm a bit lost. I have a cheap Logitech X-530 5.1 system (specs in link). Bought it a couple years back, and I am finally fed up with the lack of bass. I have a couple questions/options to run by you wise people... http://reviews.cnet.com/pc-speakers/logitech-x-530/4507-3179_7-31079671.html 1) I'd like to keep the speakers and just upgrade the sub, but reading around it seems like it may not be trivial. Here's a picture of the speaker hookups I know it'll take DIY work, so I'm down for that. My question is....is it worth it? or possible? 2) I have two…

I just bought a 8" Bravox Audio subwoofer (PXW8D-2). I have a 180-240rms plate amp that I will be using to power this. I was looking to build a sonotube enclosure or just a regular ported enclosure (don't matter to me). I just need to know what size enclosure (sealed and ported) would be best for this subwoofer in the home. Space is not a concern. If not a problem, I would like to know the optimal enclosure ported for 1 and 2 of these also. My problem is that the lowest my amp will wire down to is 500rms @ 4ohms. I would like to eventually try it in the car, or I might just have to find another one in the future. But back onto the main topic..It will be used for movies…

Anyone have any recommendations on a good 500+/- watt amp? I'm bringing my Fi Q 18" home and I won't be using it for car audio for a while The box was tuned to 29hz, and I don't mind if I can't hit the ultra low notes in movies, but I'll mostly use it listening to music. Thanks
