Good morning to all. Ok, have a build question for the forum. I'm looking to get an 18" BTL soon and was curious as to what would sound the best in regards to sub direction. Room is not an issue as I have an SUV. I'd like to take a poll and get opinions on why you chose the following: 1.Sub up to roof and port to back of vehicle 2.Sub forward to driver and port to back of vehicle 3.Sub to back of vehicle and port to back of vehicle 4.Sub forward to driver and port forward to driver 5.Sub up to roof and port up to roof I'm really looking for ground punding and earthquaking when I want the sub to perform, yet sound decent with pop music as well. I have a broad range of mus…

These questions may have been answered before but a quick search did not turn up the obvious answers. I have 2 completely separate and very specific applications I'm looking at for 12" drivers (neither of which involve being inside a vehicle BTW) and I need a little bit more information to help in the decision making process. What is the motor OD on the Q series and the BTL (11.5" I think?) What is the overall depth of the 12" version of the Q and BTL? Also what is the motor only depth of both from the back of the frame? What is the generic xmech of both series? It's nearly the same I assume as baskets, vc od and suspensions are very similar. I figure about 35-36mm inwa…

i have 2 12inch BTL's and was wonderin what the best cuft and hz would sound the best. i listen to lots of rap and like my music low and loud. also how much sq in of port should i have?? should it be a port for each speaker or can it just be a big port in the middle?? i have a drawing that i like but it isnt tuned right. i'll try to get a pic up of it. if someone would like to email me or pm me my email is [email protected]. any help would greatly be apreciated. also someone was tryin to tell me that btl's are not good daily drivers that they wouldnt sound very good...any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated. thanks

http://youtube.com/watch?v=fU3nZ-l4vxg just curious my old setup was a 3.5 cubed box with 36" of port. the port was on the right of the box 2"x18" it was narrow. anyways my sub was in the middle both facing forward. it was loud it got really low and moved alot of air. the link above is my new setup. the lows dont really move alot of air like the old. is it because of having to ports. or is the box design not right. the only difference of the new and the old is the new hits highs very good it hurts your ears very badly. why do some people put there subs on one end of the box with the port at the other does that make it louder. i need help with a better box i think. i want …

ok so heres the deal. I currently have a 12" btl in a 2.25 @ 32 enclosure being run off a crunch gp3000pro. It is loud don't get me wrong, but of course I am always looking for a little more. So I am thinking of building a new enclosure for it and I am just looking for ideas. Thought about tuning to around 35, but not sure if it would be worth it or not. This is the first single sub set up I have had so maybe I am just setting my expectations to high, i dunno. I figure I might as well try a new enclosure before I jump into a whole new set up, so any suggestions are welcome!

***FIRST*** I have a 15" fully loaded btl. the box its in is pretty big its 5 cubes. it has dual ports with sub and ports firing forward. i think the ports together is 80 sq inshes of port. the speaker is centered in the box with the ports on the ends of each side. just curious but would a box of the same size with a single port with sub in center or on the end with both firing forward be louder or the same. my video is posted on you tube and people are telling me it would be louder with a single port then dual. ***SECOND*** i am running mt btl with stock electrical alt, battery , and chitty 4 guage wire. no big 3. i have a ssl soundstorm 4000.1 mono amp. i have heard th…

does my 1997 4 door bravada (exact same as 4 door blazer) have enough space for 2 18" BTLs? or would i be better off going with 1 18"? either route i go i will have 2kw rms to EACH woofer... my max dimensions are 48w 30d and 20h.. going ported if it is only enough space for 1.. does anyone think 2 12" BTLs will be louder than 1 18"??? sorry for all the questions.. they may seem pretty dumb but i want to be sure about what im doing BTW I'm looking for a pretty good SPL but i want to retain SQ for daily listening right now i am running 2 MTX T9512-44s on 2.4kw @1ohm, in 4.5 cubes each ported tuned to 35hz, i would like to have about the same SQ as these if any one has h…

I was just wondering if pictures and/or cut sheets would ever be available on the forum. At the very bottom of the Pinned BTL Enclosure Recommendations Thread it says that "Pictures and cut sheets for some enclosures [are] coming soon," however that has been up for many months now and I was wondering if they would ever be up. I just got my 12'' BTL reconed and am wanting a more simple design this time for my box, however I have not found any actual standard recommended designs posted up by Fi, and was just wondering if they would ever be made available. Thanks

I have Term-Pak and am looking at the graph for a box for my BTL It looks horrible. Is it just me or does the sub just plot poorly? I used the specs off the site. I'm using a model of 4ft^3 @ 32Hz

I have a BTL 15 dual mag hooked up 1 ohm mono to Sundown 3000. When I really want to get on it the sub sounds like it is bottoming out. When I had it hooked up 2 ohms it did not do this. Also I have yet to blow my 100 amp fuse. Have 300 amp fuse standing buy but with the popping I have to keep the sound down enough so I don't know if I'll ever blow this 100A fuse. Doesn't sound like tinsel slap to me. Box is tuned to 35hz and is almost 4cf. Thanks in advance Ronrico Joe

Hey guys I'm getting my plan's ready on my btl n2 18. I already have my amp to power it(hifonics for now). But I'm still deciding on the box plans. I'm doing a ported box tuned to 33hz. I want to do the box perfect and to spec but I'm having a hard time calculating the bracing and how thick I should make it for safety. Any advice would be appreciated thanks for your time

I was wondering if the BTL or BL could be run in a sealed box. The Fi site doesnt have any dimensions for sealed boxes. If they cant be used in a sealed box, why? Is it because they just wouldnt sound good? Just wondering. Thanks guys

Here is my problem/hold up. I am getting a new truck, one for pure audio fun, full size of course. I will be doing a cut through, so the entire bed is game. I want tons of SPL, enough to make your stomach almost turn. I want 4 15's and am not sure what to go with BTL or BL. I know I need some good amps to push them. What all power wise (wires, alt, extra batteries) would I need and about how much/where can I get a alternator from. I have some crap P3's now and want to do a massive jump up. I got addicted and my friends are killin me, want to destroy them. Thanks

  22. I was driving to San Francisco today listening to music in the car not all that loud and about 3/4 of the trip I noticed that the brakes started to respond slower. For example, I'd press down the brakes 1/3 of the way down and it won't respond until I press halfway down until the brakes even start working. By the time I arrived in the city, I popped the hood and I noticed that the wires were coming loose from the fuse holder. What's even worse was that the wire was in contact with something metal and I saw some burn marks with something black that melted as well, probably plastic. Anyways, I made it safely, but it turns out I didn't do a great job with the wiring. Althoug…

with a box at 27x21x27 what size port would i need to run a 18"btl at 2000 watts? this is just the available area for the box. with displacement it puts the box at 7.13ft^3. and i am using 3/4 mdf. or would it be better to run both btl's in the same enclosure and port it. if so the box would change to 27x42x27. what port length would be needed to run it at 32hz?

I figured I'd start this topic because I have noticed there are a lot of people asking this questions, I even still have a few questions. The most common besides enclosure questions is those about how powering the BTL, so maybe this will be a good blanket to answer many questions. Q1. When most people buy this sub they don't have an enormous expensive amp to power it to it's full potential-as most people just want something to hold up good for daily use and don't plan on seriously competing with it. Being that the RMS is 2000 watts, is this the minimum recommended? Obviously 500 watts will make it play, but to see good results what is the smallest amount of power recommen…

Hi, I have had my BTL 12 for several weeks now. Its fully loaded and only receiving around 1000 watts rms (PDX 1.1000). The enclosure is 3 cubes after displacement at 34 hz. On certain notes, i hear a popping noise. The notes are almost always higher notes. The spiders and leads look fine, but i dont have much experience with them. Is it possible that i am reaching the mechanical limits of the sub in this box at less than half power? Amp is not clipping to my knowledge. Voltage is stable when the noise sounds (less than half gain, no bass boost). Oh, and the popping is only heard at half volume plus. The sound sounds like its coming from under the dust cap. Any i…
