Subwoofers / Speakers

Discuss Subwoofers And All Aspects Of Speakers here.

  1. Started by Shogen,

Alright, so here we go.. I want to upgrade my front stage while waiting on the Icon sub I have coming sometime this month.(already ordered) What I want to do it get rid of my Alpine 6x9s I have in the front doors and eliminate that horrid speaker the factory Toyota calls a "tweeter" ... I've somewhat bugged //M5 already and instead of continuing to fill his inbox I will give the SSA community a chance to jump in.. So I had found this chart: http://www.listenhear.co.uk/general_acoustics.htm I asked //M5 and he already stated that it is a decent chart but needs somewhat more range. So what my goal is and obviously this could be the wrong way in approaching it, but I hope…

Hey guys, I'm finally biting the bullett and putting some bass in my 2012 Mustang 5.0... It has the shaker 500 system, but I def need more thump. My available dimensions are 38"W x 15"H x 11"D Those are the Max dimensions for the space I want to take up. It calculates out to 2.7ft^3 using the max dimensions. I am trying to pick between 3 10's in a sealed box, or 2 12's sealed, or one 12 ported.... I initially wanted a single 15 sealed but I just don't have the height as my MAX height is 15" for the box. I will be powering it with a Hifonix bxi1610d (1600wrms@1ohm). I have been looking at 3 10w3v3's, or type-r's, as those can both be had fairly cheap online. Any ot…

Which would have deeper and louder bass, which would you choose? I just can't decide on which subs to choose. Either would be in a ported enclosure, also will a 15" sub respond fast enough for classic rock music? Thanks.

  5. I am beginning to look a good component pair to put into my factory 5x7 location after I sound deaden in a couple weeks. First, Does anyone think I can fit 6.5 woofers into a Ford Focus 5x7 hole without much fabrication (meaning adapter plate or MDF ring). If I can't fit a 6.5, how much is lost by going to a 5.25 inch set? I am really lacking midbass now with the 5x7 type-r coax's that came with the car. Hoping that sound deadening and a decent set of components will fix that up. I will be powering the set with an Alpine MRP-F450 (70wrmsx4, or 200wrmsx2 bridged).

So I just moved my Pioneer sub into my BMW 328i. Same enclosure, same amp. New power/ground wires, new rcas, new speaker wire. The headunit is BMWs factory and the amp is getting signal from a LOC that is connected to the BMWs factory amplifier. The subwoofer does NOT sound the same anymore as expected. But the problem is that its not close to as loud as it was on the expedition. They told me the BMW has a well-sealed trunk, could this be the reason why Im somehow not feeling the bass anymore? I also had to lower the gains a bit (from what I had it on the expedition) and the sub gets hot faster and my trunk has been getting that burning smell constantly since I installed …

Hey all. I was hoping you all could help me compare and contrast a couple different subs. I’m not going to ask which is better, I’ll make that decision. Just want some input on where each sub may have its strong points, weak points, etc. speaker size is 15”. Amp rms rated power is 2750 at 1 ohm. But after rise etc etc you get the idea. Enclosure will be 3 cu ft ported with about 50 sq in of port. Subs are as follows 1. Sundown Z v.3 2. SSA XCON 3. SSA ZCON So not really looking for someone to help me pick a sub just to tell me any experiences they may have had with these subs, especially if you've used both and any thoughts, suggestions, concerns you may have. Thanks al…

  11. Which one would be the better choice??? I can get the jbl for 245 and the zapco for 550 shipped, both would be ran at 4 ohms on a 12 Mag. I believe the jbl is rated 787 watts at 4 ohms and the zapco 800 watts at 4 ohms. I really want the zapco but I dont know if power diference is worth $305. Does anybody know if the zapco is stable at 1 ohm??? If yes, then I will definitly pick it up.

Well since it's an extra long weekend for me I'd figure that I would do a quick comparison between the two woofers. The box used is my current home theatre box, which is about 8.5 cubes tuned to 18 hertz. The amp being used is a Dayton 1000 watt plate amplifier that does 1000 watts @ 4 ohms. Impressions of both woofers: RE SX18 I've owned the RE for about a year now, and it's made its way from the car to the house. The packaging was nothing more than unimpressive. A single ply cardboard box with 5 pieces of stiff foam keeping it in place. It's about 26 pounds and looks pretty sharp. The basket is pretty much identical to the Mach 5 SPL series (only not milled down). The t…

So I just bought a RD 2200.1 on the pre-sale on **** and I wanted to get 2 Alpine type R 15's for it. I think I might be pushing it with these subs because the amp supposedly does 2800 rms @ 14.4 volts and does rated at 10.8 volts!!! Now I have seen some videos of 2 Type R 15's being pushed by a sundown 3K, Autotek MM 3000.1, and even an AB VFL 500.1. Do you guys think I will be o.k with these subs being pushed daily like this. I plan to tune the box to around 30 hz. Also what size box should I make?

im keeping the door panels factory, but i think im going to throw a set of kicker SSMB8's (8" midbass) in the doors and 5.25's in the kicks, problem is, dont know what 5.25's to use (i was thinking boston pro5's) and secondly, will just those as a front stage keep up with 145+db? the other idea was to just IB a set of 8" subs. any input would be great! thanks

  16. Hello guys, I am looking to put together a system with one 10 inch driver in a ported box for my mustang. I am looking for something with around 1500 watts rms, long throw excursion with 30mm or greater xmax. These are the choices that i have found and liked so far: Sundown x10 Sundown z10 Tantric Sounds hd10 I seen some others like ssa xcon 10 but it is still based on the old style basket and spider setup and while it has an xmax of 31mm, Jacob of Sundown said that these older designs reach xmax and xmech at the same time whereas the new styles like the x,z and tantric subs are designed with way more throw built in so over excursion wont damage the woofer to an exten…

I want to get rid of my factory speakers, at least the front ones for now (in the future, ill get another pair for the rear). I originally intended to go for the alpine type X, but then started digging more choices and ended up with a few recommendations. These included image dynamics, diamond audio, and the alpine type x themselves. Now, I have heard the Image dynamics are REALLY GOOD. Easy choice over the type X. And the diamond audio are just too much ($650 for a pair of speakers are not attractive to me, sorry thats just way over the line). So basically I have narrowed it down to image dynamics. They will run passive (for now), but later I will be using a SAX-100.4 to…

So I've been slammed (as usual) so without typing for an hour or more about what I've been doing I'll put it simply: My car got in a fight with a curb, the curb won, the car is fixed (all right side lower control arms, front rotor, lower ball joint on pass and steering ball joint on driver side were all replaced b/c of the accident and I installed new shocks all the way around while tearing the car apart). Secondly, my dad and I are installing 4 Mag 15's in our celing. That's right, four (4) Mag 15's in an IB install. Check out the pics. We're not done yet b/c I busted a hole in one surround (one hand drilling while supporting myself and dad holding the woofer in pla…

So I have a 2007 Honda Accord Coupe. I am looking to get a 12'' Lethal Injection and I am looking for a sub box. I was looking on the Fisher Custom site but that is out of my price range. I was hoping that this one I found on SonicElectronix would be good. If someone could please help me out it would be much appreciated. I will ask my other question here so I don't make an extra post. Like stated above I want to get a 12'' Lethal Injection and I was wondering what would be a good amplifier to get? I was looking at a Sundown Audio but I guess the prices were just raised? That or the 1000 watt was taken off of this website? If someone could help me out it would be much ap…
