Subwoofers / Speakers

  1. I currently have a 2005 single cab Dodge Ram 1500. I recently ordered a Sundown Audio SA-8 D4 v.1. I have a 1k Hifonics Mono Amp i was hoping to push this sub with. Im having issues getting a box design. I built my own and friends boxes but only merely guessing needed airspace and very unfamiliar with tuning. I under stand its got to do with the driver, box volume and port length and size but beyond that im a noob. From reading around I've seen that these subs need about .5-.75 cubs of box at about 30 to 40hz? My first box attempt was around .6cubs but the port was about 1"x8" and only 27" long which im almost positive is incorrect because the sub will not even do any not…

So I have a JL Audio 10W3v3-2 and it was making a weird scratching noise. Completely random, would happen at any volume and would come and go with no real reason, sometimes it wouldn't do it for days, sometimes it would happen many times a day. I took it out of the box looking for some explanation and could see nothing, so it cut it open. The only thing that looked a little off was what looked like some corrosion on the coil itself. So now I have the motor and basket just laying around and it seems a shame to just toss it. Does anyone make a recone other than JL that will work??

I'm hoping to upgrade from my 10" 500w rms alpine type r in sealed box this summer. I'm planning to buy a 12" and put it a ported box. I'm interested in the gcon but my main concern is power. I've read that more power won't always make a huge difference in spl. I know the gcon isn't out yet but i'm looking for an estimate of how much louder a gcon 12 should be over a dcon 12. If there isn't that much of a difference I wouldn't mind going with a dcon and not to have to worry about using too much power when putting in an amp for the speakers. As far as I know, type r's are pretty decent subs. Would a 12" 300w dcon in a ported box even be an upgrade from a 10" 500w type r in…

  9. If the human ear is unable to detect the direction ot true mid bass (below 250 hz), why not run a single 8" woofer in the rear deck of my challenger to compliment the 6 1/2' component set up front and 12" sub in the trunk? I bought a 5 channel Boston GTA amp super cheap and could car less about rear fill, but would like better mid bass response. Please tell me why I'm crazy. p.s.There is no way in hell my wife would ever let me chop up the doors to put a pair of 8"s there, and I am not running active.

for about 2 years now i have been running a set of ID ctx65cs components off a MB quart dsc4125 which does 125x4 @4ohms and 250x4 @ 2ohms, and i liked it, but i blew the drivers side mid coming home from work the other day, and i figure now is a good time to upgrade. what do you guys thing about this package deal?http://www.wooferset...r-speakers.aspxseeing as how i want to get some rear fill speakers anyway, seems like a good deal to me, any input on those components? im assuming that the rms rating that they have listed is just for the front component set that comes with it, because if you go to the component speakers themselveshttp://www.wooferset...t-speakers.aspx, it…

Hey everyone i'd like to hear some opinions on what i want for my sub stage. I want to get rockford fosgate. here are the options im thinking.. 2 12" P3's sealed or ported? 1 15" T1 ported 2 10" T0's ported 1 10" T2 ported Will be getting 1000rms to them. I've asked all my friends and their opinions are scattered lol. What do you guys think I should get? I want good sound quality and loudness as well.. id go for more sound quality than loudness but if i can get loudness too that would be great. Im leaning more towards the 1 15" t1 or p3s sealed but idk.. will be in a honda civic coupe, and in the trunk. thanks again guys cant wait to hear some feedback.

I have a buddy that I built a box for and installed two SA-8's. He bought both of them used, one from Darren Francis, the other from a local guy. Anyway, with the subs wired in series/paralell for a 4 ohm load, one of the subs gets extremely hot after only about 3-5 minutes of play. If the sub hasn't been played and is cool, there is no scratching when pushed in, but when it's been played and gets hot, it has a little scratching noise when pushed in. Anyone know why this would be happening to only 1 sub? The other sub stays completely cool and plays fine. It is possible that one of the coils could be blown on the bad sub? I did a quick test with a DMM on the subs wired to…

I want to upgrade from a JL 12W0 getting 250 watts rms from a Boston GTA1005 in a Dodge Challenger coupe. I would like more trunk space, so any enclosure over 2 cubic feet will not be considered. The GTA1005 will not be replaced, it puts out 250 rms into 4 ohms and 400 rms into 2 ohms. I was considering the following but will certainly entertain other ideas. Thank you for your opinions and advice. 1. JL stealth box- JL 12W3- 2 ohm 2. 2 Sundown E8s in either ported or sealed. Plan to remove the rear 6 1/2" stock rear fill and fire subs through the rear deck into the cabin. They'll be getting 200 rms each. 3. Single JL 8W7 firing through the factory cut out in rear d…

  20. Hey everyone, Just registered up for the forum today, seems to be all great people here, and that is why I’m coming to you guys for some help. To get straight to the point I will describe my situation. Vehicle: 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart This vehicle does have a fair size trunk, well for the size of the car. The only thing that is really keeping me back from doing what I want [2 12" Ported] is the trunk opening. As of now I have 2 Rockford Fosgate Punch P2's in a sealed 2ft^3 box. I have a 4ft^3 slot ported box tuned to 31.5Hz made for these woofers, which I used in a previous vehicle, but this box will not fit in the Ralliart. So first things first: I can not fit an…

  21. I'm looking to upgrade my speaker system. For the front stage I'm getting the Rockford fosgate 6.5" t1 series component speakers and powering them about 100 rms to each side. For the rear stage I would like to run two sets of coaxials (cone area ftw) I'm thinking the Rockford fosgate p1 series coaxials. But idk which would be better, 6.5's or 6x9's They'd be right beside each other along my side panels in the backseat (yes some modifications will be done) and I'd run a set per channel because they are 40-50rms each so one set is around 100rms. Wi be powered by my kicker 350.4 (maybe eventually sundown 100.4 or rf p400.4) But this is just an idea of mine. If anyone has b…

I know alot of you preach how worthless rear speakers are, I can understand if were talking about rear doors or something...my rear speakers are 6 x 9's mounted in the rear deck lid. Just playing around with my stock system its clear as day those speakers are back there and I'm going to replace them with after market speakers. The front stage will be a set of Rockford fosgate 6.5 components (T1652-S) using the passive crossovers it comes with. So... to keep with the fosgate theme for my speakers I see there is 2 different sets of power series 6x9's fosgate makes. 2 way and 3 way.. I understand what that means as far as how they operate but I'm not sure which one will be b…

Hey guys been off the market for a while but looking into buying a new car so of course had to come back and guys your guys' opinions on systems. I should be finding myself in a B8 A4 within the next month or two and already know I'm going to want some kicking bass in the trunk. I have previously had the Fi BL 18 in a big ported box... boy did I love that thing but had to sell a few things. First off I would like to ask if anyone has ran into any issues with installing systems in the B8 A4 models. I wanted to just add a sub and an amp but wasn't sure if I was going to run into allot of issues without replacing the head unit. Second, for those of you who have gone from por…
