  1. Terrible idea unless burning up your amplifier sounds like fun. Really, buy a HOME amplifier for home. 110v amps are way more suited to run on 110v than a 12v DC amp...imagine that.

Wow, I had considered at one time to look into buying an AQ2200 for my Fi Q's. Looks like I may have made the right choice going ahead and spending the money with Sundown.
  3. Because their batteries tend to explode? Powermaster 4 lyfe
  4. A very good question, the door is NOT properly sealed so in the end you're really just going to have a sub moving so much you bottom it out trying to get it to be louder. You will not be able to achieve those awesome SPL loud tones that you desire because your front and rear waves are interacting and your sub is in a 20cubic foot box tuned to about 2khz (essentially what happens when you have a large leaky enclosure)
  5. Ok let me just throw these out there, these aren't just my opinions, they are facts that you simply aren't grasping..... I'll bet $350 against your xcon that it did not sound good below 35hz or above 35hz, or at exactly 35hz. You sub in your closet sounded awful, you just don't know enough about sound to know it, and that's insulting to you, but you need to grow the frig up and accept it or become a recluse and chant "ignorance is bliss". Everyone here will tell you that their first awful system sounded better(to them) than their $40k system now simply because we were all too stupid at one point to know what sounds good. The better you get at listening (something you are incredibly bad at) the more you can pick out what is "wrong" with music, the more wrong you eliminate the more good you get. YOU HAVE ALL WRONG so you have no good. You're having trouble getting a box built because of the SAME reason you're having trouble getting help, it's YOU and your attitude. I would not build a box for you, I wouldn't even approach it because you want all kinds of stupid shit without doing any research to see what you may actually NEED. You're asking a professional box builder to carpet the inside of your box because you know it's what you want, but everyone has tried to tell you that's stupid....but you still want it and you think that because you have some money you should be able to buy whatever you want. Take a moment and give respect to the person building your box, tell him what you want the subwoofer to do, and take whatever the frig he builds you and see if it doesn't sound better than anything you've ever heard. You have money but no talent and you won't listen to the people with talent(and there are other people with money that will listen and won't bitch later). I have grown really annoyed by you at this point and I'm done trying to help you (like most of the other people). I do wish you good luck and hope that you don't waste too much money. edited for the tippy ties
  6. are you my ex-gf? you have a damn excuse for everything, you can't build a box yourself but you can torture a sub in a closet with duct tape and brag about how good it sounds? I mean do you think the box you build yourself is going to look worse than the vids you posted above? Do you think it wont' function as well? Is the (tiny in comparison to the xcon cost) investment too much? you have your expensive sub stuck in a closet door because you're too ignorant to do anything better with it, and therefore have to wait for someone else to fix your problem for you...... do you not see something fundamentally wrong with that? With a $50-$75 investment you could have an ungodly loud setup while you wait for you "professional" box and you'll even have a properly functioning subwoofer to go in it.
  7. If you can buy an Xcon you can save up and buy a drill (or borrow one), lowe's or Home Depot can make all the cuts for you except the sub hole which once again you'll need to beg borrow or steal a jigsaw (both very common tools) What you're doing is the equivalent of someone running 80 octane gas through a 500hp turbo engine going look how funny that knock retard is, or since you're interested in computers it's like someone building a gaming system but not actually attaching the motherboard to the case, then bitching when the thing shorts out because he didn't have the proper $20 tool to finish the install on his $1k computer. You don't pay a toothless hooker for a handjob, if you run track you wear the right god damn shoes, if you're muslim you don't pray to mecca on a trash bag....if you do something you do it right and take some pride in what you do and people will give you respect because you've earned it. But, if you're a typical kid who wants to throw away his money and then not give his product any respect then he can't expect respect from someone else. How happy would you have been with your Xcon if the people that built it took as much pride in their work as you do?
  8. Lets not resort to personal attacks here people. We better than CA.com. All offending posts have been removed.
  9. well Im sorry you are mad that I cut that tab out, but I the time for that install we had to. I have alot more pics if you want me to post them.
  10. Get ready to feel bad a lot. This world isn't a nice fluffy place like your mother pretended. Sometimes the truth hurts and it takes the swallowing of some pride to accept that you may have been a dumbass but learned from your mistakes and moved on. Alternatively you can bitch and whine because people tried to let you know that you were being a dumbass instead of just sitting back and watching you fail while laughing at you privately.
  11. well, when posting on a public forum, u should expect to get a public answer. just because u thought it was fun other people dont have to think the same thing. some people think it was dumb and they told you. thats what a public forum is all about, people stating opinions.
  12. A lot of people on here are very nice and knowledgeable. It's just taking what they say, understanding it, and applying it. Some people come off as arsehos, but that's just how some people come off as, some of the MOST intelligent people on here can come off as a bit dickish. it's something not to take personally. Everything in car audio breaks down to Learning, Understanding, and application. That's how I've learned a lot of things. if you want people to answer your topics they need to be CONCISE , Understandable, and being able to communicate your needs and wants. Also, Not making multiple topics for the SAME thing if it doesn't get answered the first time or in a few hours review your thread and then correct it.
  13. 95 percent of the time its because people ask the same question that has been answered 100 times, and using the search bar will answer most of the questions people ask on here.
  14. Saw on the internet that Haiti is without a government. To help out, I am donating one Obama, one Pelosi, one Reid, one Frank, one Coakley and two Clintons! They may keep them permanently! I'd give them a constitution; but I can't find mine right now!

Not to offend you or anything are you sure there wired to 1 ohm like the picture below (take them out the box and check just to be sure):

  17. I have kids your age if they whined like you I'd make them wait longer. Respect and patience goes along way. There is a lot of knowledge here if you would use both your ears instead of your mouth you would learn something. Don't bother arguing back your on my ignore list.
  18. The feature you are looking for is called a regulated power supply. It is not unique to JL, however I don't know off hand if any other amplifiers feature both regulated power output and a regulated power supply, if those are the two features you are looking for. If you don't need regulated power output but want regulated power supply, those aren't as difficult to find...but not all amplifiers that have regulated power supplies will necessarily advertise the fact that they have regulated power supplies. Although remember, there are no free lunches. Amplifiers with regulated power supplies are able to output roughly the same power as voltage drops because they draw more current from the electrical system to compensate. The (relatively speaking) small variation in power output related to voltage drop with unregulated power supplies generally isn't enough to cause an audible difference.......
  19. That makes no sense and it is still as backwards like stated above, it is ok to work on you electrical but doing it the way your are is ridiculous. Take a step back and slow down, you dont have the car or the money so stop rushing things and plan this right or you will be at this all day or making changes to equipment your once you put it in (trust me I know I have been there and done it myself). Sit down and think about this wisely and if you need help dont be afraid to ask.
  20. Yup! PPI and Orion before ADST and Directed. Hi-Fonics and Crunch before Maxxsonics. Phoenix Gold before Rodin and AAMP. Soundstream before Epislon Electronics and Rockford Fosgate Punch and HD series. All old school amps I run Sundown now because I wanted to try something other than mainstream and glad that I did! x2, wanted to venture away from mainstream and was looking at getting an Audioque AQ2200D then seen the Sundown on Presale for a few dollars more and jumped on the Sundown SAZ-2000D and then got a Sundown SAX-125.2, havent turned back yet. I also wanted to get one of the newer lines of Zed Audio Amps but they werent out yet with a sketchy time of release when I needed an amp but still will get some in the future. For my car it will be Zed or Sundown Audio for amps and KnuKonceptz for my wiring and rca needs (I found a good company and gonna stick with them), the only bias I have for equipment is what will be ran in my car.

I would take an Incriminator Sub or any other sub from the SSA store over a Type R. I did an a-b comparison with my DCON 10" versus the local Alpine/Rockford dealer's Type-R in my truck. The DCON had more "sq" and while not as loud to the ear, it wasn't lacking by much when comparing to the Type R. IMO I feel you would be more satisfied with the Incriminator over the Alpine in "SQ" and output.

No warranty on most of their stuff. Buyer beware. They sell quite a bit unauthorized.

You cant really compare subs since they are all made with different goals in mind, you cant go wrong with any subs on this forum as long as there in there recommended enclosure you will get great output and performance from them.
  24. good start and keep us posted
  25. great products in a wiring kit, i got to get my hands on a multimeter asap. Im mad you beat me to punch, have fun installing
  26. definately definately.. the wire is packed too.. it's not just all insulator.. quality stuff.. but head on down to radio shack.. got mine there only $20.. already tested my voltage and was just about to post results.. and some more pics eventually.. but i need that sub and then i can really have fun do you have a voltmeter by any chance? yeah i have an audiocontrol epic-160 that has a voltmeter on it, right under the radio
  27. I have mines wired into the radio's wires since I customized my dash kit and fit it into the pocket under the radio. I suggest you use your radio's wiring since you will probably have that voltmeter somewher up close to the dash so it can be read easier

Just to clarify, you can go active with amps such as Sundown Amps or any other brands that have mutiple crossover settings on it? I know it isnt the best active setups or wont be in a SQ competition but you can do the basics with amps right? So others wont get confused that you gotta have headunit to at least try it. For example in my system I run my front, rear and sub filters Through and let the amps do the work.

This page that you posted helps out drastically as I also went through old Sundown posts and read all the ones I posted and others did about using the amps crossover flexibility. I spent the whole day to get this background info and technical aspect done and Im slowly understanding this. After I finish reading this link again I may have some more questions for you, Thanks

Im glad people can learn from this, that is what it is here for since I know Im not the only one who wants or needs to know this.

So basically no matter which high pass filter (1 or 2) is set higher or lower than the other one it wont matter. The one that is the lowest is cutting off frequencies lower at steeper octave that decreases towards the highest high pass filter frequnecy setting). Correct or still off?
  32. -1 points
On a side note I was trying to figure out what I should set my SSF to on my amplifier for my subwoofer. I see in the link you posted it should be half an octave lower than port tuning, my port tuning is gonna be 30Hz. What is half an octave of 30Hz? I was thinking it should be set at 22.55Hz but Im still learning. Since half an octave would be 1/4 the frequency, 30 x .25=7.5
  33. Oh, and by the way, this inst the guy who actually uses this account, im the friend hes next door looking for mdf. video 1 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtWSgJyrHDU video 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxmHZoyc6Jg video 3 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxmHZoyc6Jg - were outside the house in this one.. not that interesting. and im the one talking, not the owner of this account. he told me to post em up here while he was outside. so again, this is just something we did in about 20 min with a roll of duct tape, a cardboard box, and a door. and this is NOT the owner of this account again, im just posting this while hes away.
