Addiction sucks.
2 pointsActually, it is exactly that, a lack of will power. "You're powerless to your addiction." I heard that shit a hundred times a day. I can tell you've never been to a treatment center. Addicition is more than a weak will and being lazy. If that was it, i'd be cured by now. As to your Triple C's comment? Ffirstly wrong chemical, secondly, i'd like you to find ten square miles, outside of unihabited land, where you can't find huge amounts this crap. It's everywhere. Not easy. I'm willing to work, but people like you make it easy to not want to. If you have nothing productive to say, don't say it. Edit: I want to smack you with my NA book. I can't make you use, no matter what I do or say. You are the only person who can help yourself. In the end, your actions will decide your fate. Take responsibility and think about what you're doing. I don't care what you say, lack of will power is the #1 reason for using. Yes, there may be other contributing factors as well but when it comes down to it, it is still your choice to use. It's not like the drugs help with problems, they just mask the problem for the meantime then come back worse when you come down from your high. Sorry I wont hug and kiss you like other people will, I'd rather give it to you straight.2 points

Addiction sucks.
2 pointsYou sir, are an ass hole. You obviously have no understanding of the human body or it's reaction to addiction. Addiction is a very powerful feeling to overcome by itself in a psychological way, that doesn't compare to chemical addiction. If you understood your own body you'd feel differently and probably appreciate how lucky you are to not have a psychological or physiological addiction.2 points

Hoffman's Iron Law
1 pointI love Iron Laws. Why? Well, they are so succinctly and aptly named: they are infact, iron. Good luck breaking them! If you've been a browsing member of the online audio community for a while, you have no doubt heard about Hoffman's Iron Law. What's it all about? Well, it is quite simple. Forgive me if I am misquoting here, but I think JimJ put it best when he said: "You can have low end extension, high efficiency, or small enclosure size. Pick two." Please note that while many people use this statement related to enclosures, it applies to the speaker you're using as well So what does that mean? And why is that the case? Well, as you may have heard me say once before, speaker design and engineering is a game of compromises. The best speaker (if there truly is such a thing) is the one that has the lowest impacting compromises. Let's say you you drive a little Dodge Sprint or another vehicle with a relatively small cabin and little-to-no room for an enclosure. Of course, you're a bass head and you want to hear those lower notes banged out with some authority. To top it off, you're a cheap bugger and want a lot of sound without buying an expensive amplifier. You build your miracle enclosure, install everything, power it up, and surprise! Those low notes just aren't there. You tried to have your cake and eat it too, which just doesn't work in the real world. Naturally, you think there must be something wrong with the sub or amplifier. Now you have switched every product imaginable in and out. The good news is that an amplifier rated much higher than the RMS of your sub has given you that low end beat you're looking for. The bad news is that you just cooked a voice coil. And this is Hoffman's Iron Law at it's finest. If you want a low end monster, you had better step up the power or build a behemoth enclosure. If you want to keep your amplifier costs to a minimum, you had better build a huge enclosure or accept a very high rolloff with very little low end. If you want a small enclosure, be prepared to buy a big amp or give up that low end you love. What is the specific relation between these by-products? Simply put, the efficiency of any speaker system is directly proportional to the enclosure volume and the cube of the f3 (the frequency at which SPL is down 3dB). If you halve the efficiency of your speaker system, you may also halve the volume of the enclosure. However, if you decrease the f3 of your speaker system by a factor of two while retaining the same efficiency, you would have to increase the enclosure volume by a factor of 8 (2^3=8). Let's say you have an enclosure with an efficiency of 90dB/w/m that is 2 cubic feet in size. Suppose the f3 of this system is 30hz. However, you've decided you want a heavy bottom end and wish to drop the f3 to 15hz. Without decreasing efficiency, this change would require an enclosure measuring 16 cubic feet in size! That is quite a change, and hardly affordable in a vehicle. With a lot of preamble, I think that adequately explains how things work on the enclosure side. But as I mentioned earlier, this applies to a normal speaker prior to installation as well. I'll cover this when I get a chance, but to provide a starting point: where n0 = reference efficiency (% based) Fs = the resonant frequency of the driver (measured in Hz) Vas = Volume of air which, when acted upon by a piston of area Sd, has the same compliance as the driver's suspension (measured in m^3) Qes = electrical "Q" of the driver at Fs (unitless) n0 = (9.614 * 10^-7 * Fs^3 * Vas)/Qes * 1001 point

sealed and ported?
1 pointDont do 1 ported and 1 sealed. First try porting the one you have and if that isnt enough then buy the second and port or seal both of them but dont do one of each.1 point

Looking for a good component set
1 pointIf I were you and I could get a full ranger on axis, I'd do a 2 way with an 8" midbass and a 3" full range driver. Sure you lose a little top end, but hey its in a car and I'd make the trade to have most of the frequencies coming from a single driver. I wouldn't hesitate to not run a tweet. What are your thoughts on that?1 point

rattlebox317's wmd2 12" box design
And the part that really makes no sense to me is the last sentence. You have a family, you have a grandson, you have no job and you are buying a sub for your ride? I think a priority shift might be in order, but again your life your decisions. This is getting a little out of hand. Chop has a job as an ironworker. This is not the place where we tell people how to live their lives. I know that not everyone gets along, but sometimes it feels like too much bickering. Lets just stick to the topic guys.1 point

How do you guys crimp larger ring terminals?
All right guys, thanks. I know what to do now! cheapest way is a ball point hammer and a hard place to pound, thats how i did mine (2/0). if you solder them, make sure to use silver solder, stronger and less electrical resistance.1 point

Addiction sucks.
1 pointSeriously? I am honestly ashamed of some of my SSA brothers. A man reaches out for help before its too late for him, and people want to slap his hands? Shame on those who flame the OP and hopefully you will never know the pains of a chemical related addiction. Now with that out of the way, dude I have been around to help friends off their habits. It is NEVER easy, but as others have said this has to be FOR YOU. There can be alterior motives such as a better job, more money in your pocket, or better health; BUT the main forcus has to be number one: YOU. If you quit for yourself it makes it easier to stay on the sobriety wagon. Along with that you need to make a choice, either get the people who are a negative influence on your sobriety goals to join you in sobriety, or leave them behind. If the constant reminder of your addiction is around the harder it is to avoid. Its kind of like a smoker, if he wants to quit going to a smokey cigar bar and drinking WILL NOT help him quit. If anything it will further fan the flames of the addiction and make it harder to stay away from. I have gone through some personal battles with drugs in the past.................I cannot get into it to much at this time (damn government job) but it took a wake up call at a friends expense for me. I hope it is early enough that you dont need that. J1 point

most effective use of Luxury Liner Pro?
Unlike mat, a barrier has to be full coverage to work. Otherwise the areas that aren't covered "leak". That being said, I am not proposing you cover your whole car in it, but if for instance you choose to do a door you should cover the whole door The people on the SS forum are overkill since the owner pushes overkill, part of the reason I don't respect him. Pushing product to be used where it doesn't do any good sucks.1 point

I would talk/email Don at sound deadener showdown. He has a wealth of knowledge with deadening and the proper way/material to get your bang for the buck.1 point

Addiction is a very powerful feeling to overcome by itself in a psychological way, that doesn't compare to chemical addiction. If you understood your own body you'd feel differently and probably appreciate how lucky you are to not have a psychological or physiological addiction. That's a pretty bold statement considering you don't know me nor do you know the things I've been through in my life. The OP is only 16 years old, he is simply going through a phase in his life which he needs to grow out of. It's all fun and games until someones eyes roll back into their head. Its a pretty bold thing to say when no one else knows the circumstances you do. The things you have been through dont have anything to do with his post. He said that because it was an extremely rude thing to say when someone is reaching out. Point blank.1 point

Four 15 Xcon's, backseat of a grand am o.o
If you get both subs in D2 ohms then you can wire each sub to a one ohm load and use both amps, that is if your gonna go the 2 sub route. Just a heads up1 point

HAT drivers
1 pointHeard of them and considered them at one point and time, but budget constraints prevented me from buying them. Price is high imo and whether they are made in China ... . Really shouldn't matter where they are made as long as they are quality. Could you give us some background on what it is you're looking for? Budget, HU, processing, amps, active, passive.1 point

love window tint
1 pointthat's the thing about thieves.... They know nothing about car audio. I've talked to buddies of mine before about stuff like this. You don't ever want a thief break into your car that has lots of knowledge of car audio... he'll steal what means or costs the most... Typical thief will steal electronics because it's common knowledge that's the most expensive. However, a smart owner will have those products insured. So what can hurt an owner due to vandalism or theft or what can criminals get the most money from or at least a guaranteed sale? I'm gonna speak from a thief standpoint so don't think i'm on their side, lol, because i've had my house and car broken into before and will kill easily if i had to were they in the house with me. There's a good and bad thing about lots of the following so lets go through them- Window tint- It may be good to have to prevent others from seeing inside.. but it also is telling others-"Hey, i need privacy because i have or do something in here that i dont want u to know about!" Also, when a window is busted with tint on it... it's not as loud and will not create attention either so it's possible for thieves to bust tinted windows in the daylight without drawing any attention at all. I suggest having the THICKEST bulletproof\breakproof laminate sheeting installed on glass that can still allow windows to roll down properly. The most expensive things in a vehicle for car audio are the follows- Battery(ies), Alternator, amp(s), and wire is starting to become $$$. Sometimes subs and head unit are expensive but not always. It's hard to steal an alt, lol, but batteries aren't if they are mobile... They need to be extra secured. Amps are easy to steal if not secured and would be a primary target. If i were a thief, i would never try to take a head unit due to the sophistication of how they are installed in different vehicles... Vandalism hurts worse than theft and lots of thieves will just damage product that cannot be stolen. Bulletproof\breakproof glass can help prevent interior vandalism. Wire would be great to steal.. but if it's ran under things and through things, that's not likely. Subs in a box better be bolted down to the car! Flush mount subs to box so a crowbar cannot be used to pry them out of the box in seconds. Smart thieves wont steal the box if it's more than 1 sub or notice it's a pretty good size box and know that the box is pretty damn heavy. So, make sure amps, batteries and sub box are extra secured to the vehicle so no quick access can remove them even in a destructive pattern. When using a car alarm, make sure you have more than 1 external siren AND have at least 1 external siren installed INSIDE the vehicle. If they have the time to break through breakproof glass, the piercing of a siren exceeding 130db will make them cringe... i guarantee it. There's no way to prevent external vandalism but there are ways to prevent interior theft within a certain timeframe.1 point

rattlebox317's wmd2 12" box design
0 pointsSmall minded is making a decision without considering all the factors. Not sure what "inner city" has to do with cost. Price is important to everyone. As for proven performance, perhaps a discussion as compared to what would be important for that to be relevant. No need to have that conversation here as you can always choose to do whatever you want with your money. It surely won't offend me. The guys that I have seen that have been testing them have no idea what they are doing, but I am sure there are exceptions. Curious why you think 2 layer foam is a positive. And the part that really makes no sense to me is the last sentence. You have a family, you have a grandson, you have no job and you are buying a sub for your ride? I think a priority shift might be in order, but again your life your decisions.0 points
