You can call it whatever the hell you want, but it will only mean something to you and nothing to anyone else. There is no "halfway" point. One is subjective and generally thought of as accurate, the other peaky as hell. Sort of like picking a halfway point between Love and Loud...no real half. And the actual problem with the term is its misuse. 99.99999999% of people that throw out that term have absolutely no desire to be anywhere near half. They want loud as hell, but don't want it to sound like shit. Perhaps a more specific analogy. You have flat and peaky. Where is half? Considering that you do not know where the peak is in frequency nor in amplitude good luck with that. And here is the other problem. I've never seen anyone who asks for SQL actually have any understanding what SQ is and if they sat in an SQ car they wouldn't be impressed. The amusing part is if they actually did understand they would never ask for SQL but instead describe exactly what about the SPL setup they want to avoid or how they'd like to alter the SQ frequency response to achieve their goals. This is a compromise, easy to answer, and actually helpful to other people reading the forum where SQL is a misapplied joke and as a term it shouldn't ever be used.
  2. Soundstream Rubicon 2500d next to an Xcon 12.
  3. The 187 is Incriminator's entry level sub. This particular sub is the 12" model, Dual 4 ohms. As with all Incriminator Audio subs, these sit a little lower. Actual readings were 3.6 ohms, the reason they do that is to help fight box rise. This sub features a 2" aluminum voice coil, double stacked motor, and weighs in at 14.8lbs. This sub is rated "conservatively" at 300rms. I am currently feeding double that daily to mine, and it does not even get warm. This is hands down the beefiest entry level sub I have ever seen!

  6. Snow day today. Dont know when I will see this again, so I took the Yukon out to play and take some pics to prove to my Grandchildren that it did snow here way back in my day. Damn you global warming!
  7. I am no expert, a few guys on HAF made some great TV topics/posts.

the whole idea is that SQ everything schould blend perfectl have a flat response and be in tune with the rest of the system , it would not play notch louder than the front speakers at the ear .thats what the debate is about . thats why you shouldn't use the term SQ when a woofer is going the used playing louder than the rest of the system .

They are opposites by default, you can surely compromise, but then you shouldn't use that terminology. i was just saying that; in general...i think that if i had to label one for SQ and one for SPL, i would label sealed as SQ. and ported as SPL. u can get SQ out of ported... i was just under the impression that u wanted to focus mainly on SQ. hence the reason i asked if you were going sealed. Still is an incorrect assumption. You should use a driver in an alignment it was designed for in a box that corresponds also to its design. SQ will then follow and that could surely be ported.
  10. None of those subs you listed. Get a BTL.

No such thing as underpowering a subwoofer, if your not going to be in competitions then that extra 600 watts per speaker wont be heard but probably seen on a meter. You answered your own question, if you want to run it at 4 ohms and make your electrical easier then why not just run the Zapco. If your really worried about sq you would worry about your subs last and not even worried about how much power you give your subs. The box will be the best overall factor in how much power you can give a subwoofer, if you want to give them 1100 watts then build a box around that power level.
  12. Ooh, 3 deka's and some 2/0
  13. Certainly you can. You would however need to externally bandpass the signal, as you can not bandpass all 6 channels at those frequencies with the on-board crossovers. Only channels 3&4 have the appropriate crossovers for your needs.

You could build a small sealed or ported box on the cheap. Personally I would build one of the ported boxes in the SSA tech sections and wake that sub up!
  15. The Last Samurai ready, aim, fire at will gatling gun gatling 2nd round canon fire 2nd, third, and fourth round canon shots The problem with Xmen Origines: Wolverine, is that it's LFE seems to be recorded low-level to begin with... I can watch the whole thing at -18dB master +12dB sub, or almost all of it at -15dB master +12dB sub... only movie I can do that with. On top of that, it seems HP'ed the only reason I have to turn it down on a cpl parts is the midbass/high bass is insane and kills my voltage. This movie is PACKED with ULF, packed with single digits. But it is at such a low level, and, much lower than the rest of the LFE. It is simply over run by mid/high bass. Im gonna post vids of the final fight scene where X11 has super reappearing powers... most of the movie is not like this, yet still very subsonic. The almost grand finalley Xmen Geart Stuff! black cowboyX11 (IDKY I keep saying top plate, not bottom) Xmen Great Stuff black cowboy X 11 v2 Xmen jus keeps on comin Xmen great ULF at beginning, then recorded way too long after Jim Jones ft. 16. Sorry, I got super busy since last update. I've worked on my car as much as possible, but haven't gotten as much done as I would have liked. Cold and parents being a big hindrance. I do have a solid plan now which I'm excited about. I got the subs hopping which is awesome. I can't wait to get the doors sealed up and see how much the ID OEM v1's can kill my car =D But on that note my parents don't want me spending close to 800$ on sound deadening. Which has really stumped me. Now I don't know what to deaden and where to spend my money and such. It's annoying. I'm still waiting for that perfect moment to say hey, about that... And still go for the complete and perfect setup that I've wanted since day one. But enough of my jabbering you want pics right??? This is the new revised version that I came up for mounting the OEM's As you can tell it's much more compact than the first. Test fitting of the door proved that it needed to be modded for the speaker to not encounter resistance. I would be working on it all this weekend and last if it weren't for me going to a Passion 2011 in Atlanta, and now getting my wisdom teeth pulled. Hopefully I wont be so out of it that I'll be able to get the 2nd door done. Run some 12g to the amp rack. Get the amp rack mounted. Order pneumatic springs. And wait for a few checks that are supposed to be coming for some work over winter break. And spend that on deadening and fiberglass junk. Happy New Year everyone!!!
  17. I would, personally, up the total to $250. They're old school amps but built like tanks and have some of the best SQ even in todays market and the amp will allow you to go fully active on the fronts w/o processing, the amp.... Phoenix Gold ZX450. It has one of the most complex/flexible xovers in/on an amp. You can HP the tweets from 300Hz up to ~5k Hz, and you can bandpass the mids from 30Hz to ~5k Hz. I have one and loved it. It sits as a collectors item now. They usually run for about $250 on ebay. That's where I would start. And if you have the PG RSD comps, there would be no need to upgrade your speakers.
  18. This platform grabs the ULF flop from the subs quite well, other than that this thing is totally unphased by four 18's and two 12" ports and people jumping up and down, back up, back down all day long day after day, but there's just one activity that always worries me so i finally had to do sumthin bout it
  19. Thats silly string all over, the black lights and colored lights light it up... looks cool in person, dirty in pics so 2 of my gaskets were warped from sitting outside and were rubbing the surrounds so I took em off. I get the new 4 any day now, Ill put the new ones in the HT and use these in the van. built shelves to set stuff on on the sides of the bleechers. wish I couldda got the crackhead to help with that back during summer, much better speaker placement means everything got the four 18's today for the VAN, decided to put them in the towers cuz I am getting serious buzzing I hope the new gaskets will cure, and my reconing job was as pretty as my speaker stands
  20. my camera sucks, trying to clean it with rubbing alcohol Of course speaker placement changes everything, I knew that, but my initial plan was ordering six 21" Maelstrom-X's and 14 Anarchy's, doing seven MTMs for 7.1 surround. To get me buy until then I was just gonna use those cheap walmart cubes, but they work surprisingly well and I just can't afford better for now. They are HIDEOUS and one has a bad stain, so I tuked them back into the entertainment center to hide them. Well with the added two 18's my substage SQ went way up, so Ive been doing more critical listening (sure those cubes are as bad as it can get, but the receiver sure milks them for what they're worth) and I just couldnt take the "tunnel vision" from them being 3' deep between the towers. I brought them out, real ugly I know, but OMFG! I had to back things down 2dB off the batt, but even my woman looked at me right away like "wow, did that really just happen? Did that really change things that much?" Cuz now it's actually surround, not mono muffled The surrounds faced forward, were hard to hear, now theyre standing out like they should.
  21. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1231247&page=11 So my lady wants me to build some ugly stairs to go with the ugly clown room, and I wanted to test the Towers to see how much of the flex is pressure VS driver vibration... if it's mostly pressure and I need to brace all 6 sides, I need a minimum of 40 2"x4"s, 8 front to back each, 8 side to side each, 4 center to top each. But I put some white stickers in diff spots to see if it was the same flex all over or just by the driver. Lucky me! 24Hz is where it is worst, but a few Hz in each direction and flex is minimal. Took the drivers out of the 10 cube box, put them back in the towers. Ill most likely put the 2nd driver's on the inside top otherwise outside top here's the vibration vid
  22. This thing is loud. lol. I gotta brace my house. I just watched the first movie with it. Inception was the movie. There was constant bass almost all the time. And I added the 5lbs of polyfill. I'll leave it since I don't wanna take the sub out again.
  23. Handles on both sides. Terminal box on the back. I still got some more bracing and open cell foam on the walls.
  24. It will not give you any gain, the cable essentially splits the voltage between the two. So are there any downfalls to splitting a signal this way?

I read on one of the forums the settings are complicated. is this true? its a nice amp for sure, especially for the $9000 off the normal retail price. but not a fan of kicker. i woulda threw a couple hundred with that mone and got an audioque 20k

Why can't the halfway point between sq and spl be """SQL"""? The term has been around for several decades, but there's the few of the naysayers that say it doesn't exist. Obviously it does. On a scale of 1-10, 1 being sq, 10 being spl, I want in the neighborhood of 3- 5, """SQL""". That is the compromise.
