  1. Don't run the drivers free-air, there is no need to and you can easily damage them. You don't need to break them in. You have no idea how much power you were actually giving them. Clipping has no effect on the spider. If the spider is ripped it is because you exceeded the safe mechanical limits of the driver. This is very easy to do free-air. This is also your fault. Good luck. They might might last forever if you put them in the box, they might get worse...
  2. I pulled off my first attempt, which was a total fail. I decided that I am not going to use an insert piece. I really want a nice smooth look to the pod. What I learned : 1. Do not use two way fabric It is just too damn stretchy. Somebody may have success with it but I can guarantee it isn't going to be easy. 2. Fabric has got to be as tight as possible. Stretch the snot out of it and then some more. I laid the fabric so the stretchy side was running top to bottom. I stapled the ends (left and right) to my makeshift plywood work table. This would help assure it is tight. I started in the center and worked my way outward on a radial direction. The entire piece to a good bit of a hour to wrap. Next up : 2-3 layers of glass on the inside and one layer on the outside. Couple more things I learned. A couple areas around the edge of my mold were not smooth (If measured with a straight edge). So when I was wrapping the fabric along the edge it formed slight imperfections. These imperfections will add time to smoothing the contour of the pod that I could have done a lot faster with resin or 'glass before I wrapped the pod.

  4. There's a lesson in how the equipment works that needs taught here I believe. Subs don't "pull" power or put a "strain" on any amplifier. Now, that doesn't speak to the impedance the amp is seeing, I'm just referring to the fact that speakers are stupid. They do as they're told and are in no way an intelligent device that uses, pulls or requires power to operate. Now, if you wire any speaker(s) to any amp and the impedance is less than the amp is rated for it will stress the amp, but that has NOTHING to do with the wattage the speaker(s) are rated at. You can put a 10,000 watt speaker on a 1 watt amp and it won't stress that amp any worse than it would a 10,000 watt amp, it just won't get as loud obviously. As long as whatever subs you get have a final impedance that didn't go below 1 ohm it won't matter if they're rated for 300wrms or 2,000 wrms it's not going to stress the amp any differently at 1 ohm. And I'll admit I'm biased, go with Fi....

  6. Wow that really looks great!!!!!!!! Why did you choose MBQuart amps? Just wondering.
  7. I have no idea about your feedback, but telling someone that giving any driver that much power free-air isn't good advice. They will do it at 25Hz and rip the spider....
  8. Ok I apologize I didn't know it was a fuckin crime get that dildo out of your ass. Money is a factor which is why I was asking if that hifonics amp is as good as the sundown I was asking if anyone had experience with both amps. But thanks skizzy I think I will buy the hifonics Brutus however they don't have a 1500wrms closet is 1007wrms which should be fine? I would love to go with sundown all the way but money is very tight for me and this system will last me a year because next year I'm leaving for the army.

  11. couldn't the serpentine belt also cause some jerkiness or possible issues starting if it is badly worn??? just throwing out an idea...
  12. The tear could also be from clipping. But the heat could be from just the weather . Just set your gain correctly and turn the bass knob to as much as you want, normally they should easily handle a 1500 in free air. Can anyone point out why i got -2 reputation for this comment?(i wanna know, i know i can easily be wrong, can't always be correct) Clipping can add to the wear and tear of a spider.(notice that i said COULD be) Not saying that it is the way to break in subwoofers.(no need to, i never do it.) Car's don't need a break in period neither.(common misconception.)
