  1. Oh and here is one way to update your firmware
  2. Ok so finally the build is on! My car has been in the shop for two months getting an engine swap(95 2.2 n/a in a 91). So anyway this is my first time every logging a car stereo build. I'm not new to forums but I am new to this car audio forum. Here's a shot of the parts: I've already started removing the dash and old Eclipse HU that was in the car. Supposibly the kid I bought the car from bought the car from a car stereo installer. I can confirm that by the very nice previous install of the HU. All twisted wiring cut to length. Here's a shot: This is what it looks like under the hood: Ok back to it...more to follow...! MR2
  3. Way better than German moses.
  4. Replacing MBQuart Separates with Morel Dotech Ovation 6: So everything is uninstalled in doors(shot before I remove Quarts)...this is what my vision looks like right now...lol... Speaker adapters once again are cut(which is better, the Quarts were also very, very close to the door skin basically would likely hit when the woofer moved-they just barely hit the door skin: Dynamat Doors(there is also Dynamat on the inside of panel you can't see..! Wiring new Morel Tweeters... The old Stock Tweeter brackets are bent back to accommodate the larger tweets... Door done and sealed back up... That's it for now... MR2
  5. I havent had power to the midbass drivers yet. Unfortunitely that will nlt be for a while yet. I will be powering them with my 1000c4 bridged. Each midbass will get 250wrms. I did get the Z's. They are 12" Z v.2 with z.3 softparts. They were built by Paco at Sundown.
  6. The build continues...finalizing the Amp Board and other touch ups... The cut... http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h255/rbbass/MR2/CIMG0198.jpg Touch up... Spare Tire/Amp Hold Down... Hold Down Painted Black to match Amp Boards Carpet... Amp and X overs mounted to Amp Board: MR2
  7. Other lil' things... resizing connector: Adding a fuse to the main wire to HU: MR2
  8. I really enjoy it..! Ya I think the carpet will look great. I just repainted the board for like the third time...I've ruffly cut the carpet & glued it down. I also put one last coat of paint on the backside. Here's some pics... MR2
  9. Decided to go with Carpet. I got a chip in one corner which would be covered up with carpet. Also I used plywood instead of mdf in case it ever gets wet it'll hold up better(not too mention it's lighter too! Just finished the sanding and painted all the edges and the weaks spots even though I'll cover them up I like the job done right..! =) Here's a pic of carpet: MR2
  10. Lol...Frunk...ya pretty funny sounding...but hey when I was over in Australia they call their trunk boot...so it's all good...! =) So I agree...I'm going to definitely carpet it...thanks for the feedback... Just sanding the edges round now, then recoat, then once it's dry I'll spray glue the carpet down. It's really warm(not for the NW so it should have no issues drying fast)..! MR2
  11. Ok...one more coat...now I chillax(sorry my palm pre takes less than stellar pics...especially in low light)... More updates tomorrow...! MR2
  12. Test fitting the Zed Audio Draconia II: MBQuart X overs: Lastly I paint the amp board(but I forgot I need to sand down the edges-will do tomorrow and respray): MR2
  13. We begin cutting the Amp Board: As we fit the board we find more tweaks needed to get the perfect fit(we use a pencil to mark out the cuts needed): I help out by standing on the board while Pops does the finish work: Here is what it looks like in the Frunk: We add the hold down bolt(the same one that hold the spare tire): MR2
  14. The Amp Rack... First we take a piece of matte board to draw a template so we can create a shape that fits into the Frunk(Front Trunk): We slowly cut the matte board till we get the right fit: MR2
  15. Here's an aerial view of the interior... Removing the center panel to run the sub wire(sorry if the pics are upside down-tried to reupload several times)...
  16. Here is the interior as I map out the path for wire runs... ...and yes I will be treating rust...this car came from back east originally... MR2
  17. If your just tuning in I am building a system in a 1991 Toyota MR2. Pictures to follow will show you the recent progress... MR2
  18. Ok back from the Depot & Ace...picked up a few more items for the Amp Board and in line fuse holder plus a switch... MR2
  19. The Doors were a bit trickier...I had to dremel out the speaker inner door skin surround...here's a shot before we removed it...! Dremeling out the inner surround... With the inner surround nearly done... Here's a shot before the outer speaker adapters were modified sitting on the MBQuart speakers... I originally mounted the Quarts in the 1" speaker adapters-it hit the door panel. So we ended up cutting them down to 3/4". We used a table saw to do so... More shots modifying the Metra Speaker Adapters. The Quart baskets are so wide it hits the door. They only have 5 1/4" speaker openings. They will not fit. So we had to add a spacer(we use the dremel to smooth out any ruff edges)... The doors turned out to be a lot of work. Here is what the door looked like after the speaker and tweeter was installed. I used high density foam in between the door and the Metra Adapters to fill any gaps. The speakers fit in really, really tight and secure. Take a look! That's it for now guys... MR2
  20. The tweeters turned out to be super ez...I was able to remove the old ones and just push in the new MBQuart Tweeters(.75")into the Tweeter cover... Here's what it looks like pushed in from the back of Tweeter Cover...
  21. JBL I'm removing... Ok now the door is ready to build the pod and replace the stock tweeters... MR2
  22. Door before pulling inner door skin... Door panel removed exposing the JBL 2-Way Speakers... MR2
  23. Hey All... I'll add more info and pics tomorrow...just getting done for the evening and I'm wooped..! Here's the workbench(lol)... MR2
  24. Ok I'll throw up a couple pics. My Pops is cool to lend me a hand(so you might see his hand in some of these pics... =) ! We've soldered the inside sub wire directly to the terminal: Added some polyfill to the inside of sub box: A shot of the sub before it's mounted in box: Sub Mounted: Now here's what it looks like inside the MR2: Ok guys...more later(sorry for crappy pics...my palm pre doesn't take great pics-When it's all done I'll take some HQ ones. For now these will at least show you how it's going)! MR2
  25. i was looking on sundowns dealer list saw ssa was a dealer for there amps and just started checking out the whole site saw the subs you have and was hooked ever sence :dancing:
  26. What difference would that make? Have you heard of the law of diminishing returns? Always better to tune for the desired response based on each specific woofers specifications, blindly offering anything else isn't a good idea. You should already know, low tuning=SQ. Come on now, get with the program noob.
  27. 1 point
The site is still up and the test can be found here.
