Sundown : New 2012 Stuff
1 pointI'm working on alot of stuff right now... I am not 100% sure how much will make it to the market by the end of this year but lets cover what is currently in the pipe-line : 1) Nightshade v.3 -- Already discussed on the forums a bit. This will be 15s and 18s only for a while -- maybe a few 12s for burp apps but NO TENS. 2) New Sundown baskets in 10/12/15 sizes. I can't show off the renderings yet until my ornamental patent application is in... but think at LEAST as much clearance as the "Eclipse" baskets AND even stronger. 18s will definitely not make it for 2012... but are on the road-map for 2013. This will allow me to make the NS v.3 in 12s for music applications. These will be used on everything larger than the SA line. ** -- With the baskets come all new spiders, cones, and surrounds. Some pretty sick stuff... you guys will like it. 3) Entirely new SAX / SAZ amp line... yes you read that correctly. I won't say any more yet until I get some prototypes Only the NS-1 isn't being re-vamped as it's already brand new and a separate line. 4) The elusive "X" line to go between the SA and Z lines (rated 1kw)... this will start to debut once the baskets are done. 12s first, then 15s, then 10s... not sure if all sizes will fit into 2012 yet or not but we will try! So yes our 1kw line will have huge spiders and tons of throw. And YES the X-8 is still in the works... it's just been a huge pain with the vendors but it's still on the table. It's been a while since I made a "coming soon" thread... and you know how I like to keep you guys in the loop ! I'm sure I forgot a few things... but don't worry -- I will update along the way ! PS: The new baskets open up 4" coil designs with high excursion. Hmmmm... Wonder what that could mean for late 2012 to 2013 designs ?! ----- Fun fact : Our new 15" frame tool = ~7.7 lbs 15" Eclipse Style = ~5.0 lbs 15" 12-spoke = ~3.3 lbs 15" 4-spoke = ~2.7 lbs Suffice to say I only wanted to tool this once no matter how heavy I wanted to make a woofer motor in the future. And since basket prices go by the amount of aluminum -- you can see why we won't use it on the SA as it weighs / costs 2.85x more than a 4-spoke Also I've managed to keep the cut-out within about ~8mm (0.3") of a standard frame on the 12s and 15s. It had to grow a bit as the frame material is so much thicker. But to fit the 8 3/8" spider that I've grown to like so much from the Z v.3 15" on the new 10" frame I have to expand it by around 1/2" or so. I wasn't happy with just using a 200mm (8.0") spider since I am doing it I may as well do it the way I want it ! So users will have to do a bit more modding to their box on that one... but hey, that is what it will take to make a 10" worth having, IMO As much as I currently HATE making beefy 10s... this will alleviate my hatred for them as I will be able to make 10s throw down like the video I recently put up of the NS v.3 -- food for thought1 point

Question about my 2 12 inch Dcons.
I know you're in good hands. The person who is helping you with your install is knowledgeable. If you are looking for more output, invest in a ported box. The dcons shine in a ported enclosure.1 point

Wire them like this and still be careful with the gain http://images.the12volt.com/12voltimages/2_4ohm_dvc_4ohm.gif1 point

BigGeorge, there is no such thing as underpowering, you are also forgetting about sensitivity.1 point

2 18" Xcons in 03 trailblazer
1 pointIt's kinda hard to answer that question as there are always variables. They are certainly capable of extreme output. I can tell you some of the drivers that I was thinking about purchasing for the dual 18 build I'm working on now. I considered Fi BTL N2, Ascendant Audio Mayhem, SSA Zcon, DD 9518SC, Ascendant Audio SMD and the Incriminator Audio Warden. I almost immediately scratched the Warden and SMD options due to cost and decided against the DDs because I wanted something a bit out of the ordinary and I live down the road from DD HQ. The last 3 all had similar power handling and were all very appealing to me. I really wanted to try the Zcon and it was a good bit cheaper than the other 2 so I ended up with a pair of Zcons. I hope that wasn't too ridiculous, it's late and I'm barely hanging on.1 point

ssa amps?
1 pointI wouldn't care where or how they were made as long as they offered the same quality, durability and customer service the subs do they'd be golden.1 point

ssa amps?
1 pointNew and unique means expensive and people are cheap bastards. They won't sell. Simple as that. Why make something that only a few people want (niche) unless you have a bunch of money to blow? Now with that out of the way, there is absolutely NO need for anything unique in the amplifier world. How about a standalone processor cheap enough for the masses so we can get back to pure gain blocks and none of the other BS with amps now. Keep the processing in the processors and the amplification in the amplifiers.1 point

Crescendo PA Mids FTW
1 pointI don't get it. He wasn't trying to sell anything. He simply stated they are available and the prices. How is this any different from listing a deal on gear at Best Buy or WoofersEtc, or Ebay?1 point

1 pointTo support a 5k amp you need more than a 250a. You know this. Why would you, or anybody, buy a 5K amp and not plan on using it? Just to say oyu have it? I never mentioned not using it. Realistically if your playing music, the impedance in the circuit will be varying all the time, so you won't be drawing the max current 24/7. Between his alternator and his battery reserve, his electrical should be up to par. Sure he'll likely experience some slight voltage drop, but that doesn't mean his batteries will go dead, he'll get stuck on the side of the road, or his ecu will fry.1 point

1 pointThe BTL is more efficient in every way, it doesn't 'need' any certain amount of power to work.1 point

1 pointA lot of people over look the American Bass XFL line. they're cheaper money wise but still good quality build and can get low and loud very easily. Buddy had 2 12s in the trunk of his sunfire tuned to like 28hz and was still doing a 142 all day long. The XFL 15 sells for about $180-$250 depending on your local dealer. SSA, Sundown, FI and so on are good choices also, Zcons sound amazing and FI has never failed to impress me either.1 point

-1 pointsWhy do you want a Sundown amp? DC Audio or Crescendo amps FTW. Why so many batteries? You have a HO alt(sorry to hear it is DC Power). BTW 5.0K on two 12's is overkill by a long shot for a music/daily setup. lol im just trying to be loud and the batteries.....was just trying to make sure I have minimal voltage drop... If you have current draw that is exceeding your alternator's output you will have voltage drop regardless of the amount of batteries used. Multiple batteries are worthless unless you plan on driving around at 12V or playing your system with the car off. Why do you want a Sundown amp? DC Audio or Crescendo amps FTW. BTW how is 5k overkill? His electrical will probably support it. OP Look at some SSA Zcons. Very nice from what I've been told. Nah man, you need more than a 250a alt to support a solid 5k amp. Nobody needs 5k for a music/daily setup. I dont care WHO you are. OVERKILL.-1 points
