  1. Simple solution is to not purchase speaker wire with transparent insulation, then you'll be blissfully ignorant of this problem Like 95 said, sounds like oxidation. Not a huge concern as long as it's not at the connection points, which it's not as I read twice in your post.
  2. I had this issue as well, I asked Mark and he told me it was the weight of the order was too much, I ended up splitting up the order and it was fine. Contacting Mark or Aaron would probably be your best bet.
  3. Howdy all, I finally took the time to order all the parts for Zaph Audio's Bargain Mini Build. I will be constructing the crossovers and the boxes and throwing it all together. I will say first that my build will probably not be the prettiest ever. I actually only get time to work on this when I travel back to my hometown for a weekend. However, I am just trying to get some nice sounding speakers together and hopefully this will be my gateway to bigger and better builds. First off are the components Next is the crossover mock up. I did this to get the correct sizing for the crossover so it will fit in the relatively small box. I was very surprised about the size and heft of the crossover components. For reference (to the picture above) the power input is at the top left, the outputs to the speakers are where they are placed and the ground is the bottom right. Next is the completed crossover. For this I just used a couple pieces of wood and consolidated the crossover into a much smaller area. If I wasn't working quickly I would have took much more time to line up everything to where it would look better (ie have all resistors parallel to each other and the inductors and capacitors in line. Before soldering I drilled a hole at every connection, fed the wire into the hole, soldered it there and cut off the extra below. Next time I will cut the right length and solder. That is it for now. I got the wood cut but I didn't take any photos. Though I already know I made one choice I wouldn't do again. When cutting wood if you have 8 pieces that will all be 8.5" then rip the distance you need at 8.5" all at once. This is great because if the 8.5" measurement is off they will all be off the same amount. What I did was rip a 10" board (my biggest dimension) and then cut down from there so I only had to use my crappy table saw once.
  4. They are being shipped to me soon -- I will take a TON of photos upon arrival.
  5. Parts express and madisound are the 2 big online suppliers of raw drivers, but picking the right drivers for you is going to take a lot of research and asking a lot of good questions. The good news is you're in the right place.
  6. Thank you Sir ... I understand, I'm on a tight budget with my ride too. Best of luck with it and please keep us posted with updates !!!
  7. Is it ghey is I love you swift? ... also, I may have a boner for Lance, Randy, BigJon and a few others on here.... Epic builds
  8. You really need to switch proteins. Chicken is the LAST animal anyone should ever eat. Okay, that and turkey, not sure which is worse but I try to avoid them at all costs. I am limited on time and range due to the amount of protein need to take in to maintain, and I can only eat so much tuna. But you have a specific goal above and beyond being healthy. So "empty" protein isnt so empty. Same with whey or gemma or any other protein source. They are supplemental to a goal aside from being healthy and fit. If this was a fitness forum, we could post progress pictures, but don't need that stuff being spread on the net under the wrong pretense. Ant! Also if your limiting how much tuna you eat because the mercury content then look up how selenium plays a role. Was not limiting it due to that, just due to only ok with eating 5 cans a week or so. Canned tuna is NOT food Exactly, haha, just dense protein for holding me over. You need more real food Aaron. All the weird extra protein and stuff you are taking is counterproductive and unhealthy. Sure for bulking it can be a helpful thing, but I also seriously question the whole bulking mentality. Step one should be health. Any other goal is a strange pretext based on social needs that don't exist. Exceptions there are, but when I look at the lack of real food being eaten by those in here and the amount of artificial supplements being taken it makes me sad. There is a reason that America is the obese country. It isn't from protein's, but it is from what i call empty calories. Processed shit that has nothing positive for your body that is tough to digest. The supplements and protein in a can exhibit many of the same features as other empty foods. There are so many natural ways to get protein that taste good. Of course your body is now so confused by the fake shit it will deceive you on what is actually good for it. This of course is the problem with empty calories. Somehow they are addicting. If you can cleanse them out of your system completely for a month, your cravings will all of a sudden warp into what your body needs instead of what you are training it to want. Over and over I've seen this amongst healhty people. They never say, oh, I better eat a xxxx today. It's xxxx sounds really good. And it's earnest. People with what I will call eating disorders are different. Case and point think of what is your "favorite" nasty fast food item. Ever notice how you don't really crave it until you have it and then you want it again quickly? Bad habits are super easy to train your body on, good ones much harder.
  9. Because I ran a Q 15 and loved it, then stepped up to two Q 18's and loved those aswell. Even the day I ordered the Q's I wish I had stepped up and bought the SP4's. So I quickly sold those and bought what I wanted. With the 4in vc, low fs, high Xmax and big power handling I knew this is what I wanted. The Sp4's sound just as good as the Q line but doing in a MUCH stronger fashion. These subs are low end monsters and that was my goal. My truck does the same db at 28hz as it does at 40hz and will peak around 34, all within a 1db range
  10. M5 a troll? This forum tiny? People don't like coming here? No one said you were an idiot, but if you want to run back to a forum to bash this site instead of making an effort to work with the people who are offering you assistance, then it shows why you're on that forum and not here. Not trying to start anything, but on this forum, we try to take an intelligent approach to problems or questions, and usually that entails starting out with the most information possible before just tossing out answers. As for how your setting your gains, good luck, I continue to see topics showing up across the net with blown sub woofers from installs using that tool. If you want easy answers with minimal information provided while not really making the most of what could be, you were in the right place before. If you want to do it with a little more planning or preparation though logical discussion, then this is the correct forum. a tool doesnt have a brain, it does what it does and that is it. Jackasses who dont use it correctly will blow shit. When the exact market segment a tool is designed and marketed for, under the premise of proper gain setting to not blow the sub woofer, are having issues, what does that tell you?
  11. A few details 1) Terrible idea to buy a comp set and run it active. If you have the capability to setup an active system right you can buy WAY, WAy better drivers for less money. 2) Two sets of comps is flat out a terrible idea. If you are short on output there are MUCH better ways of achieving this 3) 2001 Tahoe is not the most friendly for an SQ setup. Terrible dash and the door mounts require a ton of work to get solid. Without some serious fab in the kicks staging is far from trivial. 4) "Keep up with the bass" is a seriously backwards statement. The easiest way to do this though is to turn up the LP on the subwoofer to include higher frequencies. Of course this defeats the staging and fidelity, but if you don't you will need SERIOUS cone area on your mids to play midbass. That being said I SERIOUSLY doubt you actually even want it to "keep up:
  12. Thanks man I'm actually not done yet, ive got to get smoeone to solder for me since i cant help but to burn myslef with it.... Ganna put some lights in the wheel wells of the car too. We installed my LEDs around the hubs (Hub Glow Kits) ... worked great ... Just got to give plenty of slack for suspension travel ...
  13. 1 point
    I don't get it... lol ....
  14. DC9k is stronger than a 12k, so that would be my choice or two 5500's
  15. that basket just looks really sexy man!!!
  16. I think what changed is that they realized who you are and they HATE your guts bro!!! Might be the batteries...
  17. I love it, can you post that on our FB page? How do I do that? go here and post the link to the photo http://www.facebook.com/pages/Sound-Solutions-Audio/170860939855
  18. Oxidation. Was a big problem with the Monster Cable I was using 20 yrs ago. Newer techniques have helped this. I wouldn't worry about, it is mostly a superficial problem...
  19. Nice! looks like its moving some air for sure... Next vid should be a Hair trick
  20. And seriously, if there is any way we can encourage, help, support, guide or whatever. ASK. Definitely want the best for you.
  21. The research that indicates you design your enclosure based on desired response rather than the amount of power on tap. This is where you are running into problems. You keep asking for X enclosure based on Y power, when the proper way to design an enclosure is X enclosure based on your desired response. If someone is telling you to design the enclosure based on the rated power of the amplifier, then they aren't very good at enclosure design. And, for reference, when M5 referenced properly adjusting the gain it had absolutely nothing at all to do with owning and/or using a DD-1 to set the gain as that does absolutely nothing to confirm your gains are set properly. Meaning, if you feel you may be in a position of overpowering the drivers in your intended enclosure....turn the gain down.
  22. The soft parts are the same for the most part, spiders are different now on the most recent versions. The motor/cooling technology is significantly different then the previous Q. It is simply a continuation in more advanced design that happens over a period of time .
