  2. Thanks Nem, thats basically what I was expecting. Keep em coming guys, I would love to hear some input based on t/s parameters and of course more from people who have heard them both. Keep in mind IN NO WAY am I regretting my choice of xcons, im just curious about them and the subs that "compete" with them tho I have decided without even hearing them nothing can compete Can I get an amen SSA brethren? lol
  3. To my ear they are very similar in sound, but the xcon seems to get louder. Keep in mind both subs were sealed. Don't know if that helps, but both sound very good!
  4. Before even starting with a mid you need to determine potential mounting locations. EVERYTHING is a compromise, no need to add more by deciding things without the background. Oh, and give up on keeping up with an 18". No way, no how that is going to happen in the midbass realm. Going to have a gap, no way around that if you are comparing to full tilt levels. Of course if you are like most other bassheads "keeping up" means hearing the words. In that case, it's easy.
  5. That's what I call port area. Looking good! Thanks Sean, I spend a couple hours double checking eveything and want to make sure all the numbers sound right. I am thinking these 18's just might get loud. Might get loud? Lmao. Thats like swift saying his boxes are just "ok built" !! Cant wait to see this, should be straight up LEGIT with a little nasty on the side! WOOT
  6. That's because MAX power ratings are useless and more often than not full out marketing hype and lies. MAX power is useless because there's no set limit for subs and speakers. Depending on the application and installation that number could be considerably higher or barely higher than the RMS rating. Forget about MAX power ratings and concentrate on a quality installation.
  7. Thinking of making a plywood aero port. Stack the needed number of square pieces of plywood and start carving the outer and inside shape. It will take a full weekend most likely, but damn will it look nice after I finish it with some clear resin and polished. For the length I'll use a pipe or go with 8 side.
  8. Yeah they are awesome little amps. It will not be going their permanently. The factory bose system has two amps mounted in the trunk. I am going to utilize the stock mounting locations.
  9. That amp is hot..... love that it fits there!!!
  10. and the very first ssaudio.com site from 2001 or so...
  11. That's just cool. I'm sure theres nothing like seeing stuff that brings back those kinds of memories. There's many times I imagine what all else I may have learned already if I'd found this forum sooner. This is a good opportunity to thank you and Aaron again for all the hard work you guys do to keep this place up and running for us all, and for going through the cost, trouble, and headaches that accompany providing such awesome subs. The forum and the lineup have grown drastically just in the years I've been a member and I can't wait to see what the future will bring. Keep up the great work guys, it definitely doesn't go unappreciated. Oh, I still have a few of those flyers too, lol.
  12. 1st 3 Zcon's ever built too.
  13. the very first three model Icon's ever made...
  14. Spent about 4 hours tonight cutting out the braces for all the models that require them. Lots of work. Lots of dust. But I think they turned out nice.
  15. It's like you didn't even read my posts When using multiple drivers the center-to-center distance should ideally be no more than one wavelength of the highest frequency played by the drivers. Or, to put it another way, the drivers should ideally be crossed at a frequency with a wavelength no more than their center-to-center distance of the drivers. Since the center-to-center distance is going to include the diameter of the basket but the beaming frequency does not, then two drivers will actually require a lower crossover frequency than a single driver of the same "stated" diameter. I.E. a 7" driver might only have a ~6" cone, but the center-to-center distance between two 7" drivers would be ~7" assuming they were placed directly next to each other with baskets touching. If they were spaced 1" apart then the center-to-center distance increases to 8" and they would require an even lower crossover point (ideally). These rules aren't hard-n-fast and there is some leeway, but they are good starting points to figure out approximately where things might start to go haywire.
  16. In the main passband I don't think output would be an issue. A WB's rated sensitivity is lower than a standard tweeter, but given their sizable cone area advantage their peak output capabilities will exceed that of a tweeter.....might take comparatively more power to get there, but given their coils are significantly larger than a tweeter's and tweeter's really don't use much power to start with that's not going to be much of an issue. Where a WB is going to fall short of a tweeter is above ~10khz, but how much that affects things depends on listener preference, listener's hearing abilities and listening material.
