Not a versus thread
2 pointsThanks Nem, thats basically what I was expecting. Keep em coming guys, I would love to hear some input based on t/s parameters and of course more from people who have heard them both. Keep in mind IN NO WAY am I regretting my choice of xcons, im just curious about them and the subs that "compete" with them tho I have decided without even hearing them nothing can compete Can I get an amen SSA brethren? lol2 points

Not a versus thread
2 pointsTo my ear they are very similar in sound, but the xcon seems to get louder. Keep in mind both subs were sealed. Don't know if that helps, but both sound very good!2 points

2 pointsBefore even starting with a mid you need to determine potential mounting locations. EVERYTHING is a compromise, no need to add more by deciding things without the background. Oh, and give up on keeping up with an 18". No way, no how that is going to happen in the midbass realm. Going to have a gap, no way around that if you are comparing to full tilt levels. Of course if you are like most other bassheads "keeping up" means hearing the words. In that case, it's easy.2 points

Blast from the past (2009)
1 pointWas looking through some very old pictures tonight and found this. Thought you guys might find it interesting.. Our 2009 Home page (when I was just getting my web design chops back in order from a 7 year break)1 point

1 pointYeah they are awesome little amps. It will not be going their permanently. The factory bose system has two amps mounted in the trunk. I am going to utilize the stock mounting locations.1 point

Blast from the past (2009)
1 pointThat's just cool. I'm sure theres nothing like seeing stuff that brings back those kinds of memories. There's many times I imagine what all else I may have learned already if I'd found this forum sooner. This is a good opportunity to thank you and Aaron again for all the hard work you guys do to keep this place up and running for us all, and for going through the cost, trouble, and headaches that accompany providing such awesome subs. The forum and the lineup have grown drastically just in the years I've been a member and I can't wait to see what the future will bring. Keep up the great work guys, it definitely doesn't go unappreciated. Oh, I still have a few of those flyers too, lol.1 point

understanding components
1 pointIt's like you didn't even read my posts When using multiple drivers the center-to-center distance should ideally be no more than one wavelength of the highest frequency played by the drivers. Or, to put it another way, the drivers should ideally be crossed at a frequency with a wavelength no more than their center-to-center distance of the drivers. Since the center-to-center distance is going to include the diameter of the basket but the beaming frequency does not, then two drivers will actually require a lower crossover frequency than a single driver of the same "stated" diameter. I.E. a 7" driver might only have a ~6" cone, but the center-to-center distance between two 7" drivers would be ~7" assuming they were placed directly next to each other with baskets touching. If they were spaced 1" apart then the center-to-center distance increases to 8" and they would require an even lower crossover point (ideally). These rules aren't hard-n-fast and there is some leeway, but they are good starting points to figure out approximately where things might start to go haywire.1 point

building a hybrid woofer
1 pointHis point was, if you randomly assemble parts you aren't going to have proper T/S parameters, which means you are not going to be able to design an enclosure for it. If you had someone measure the T/S for you, then you would be able to at least design an enclosure......but you're stuck with whatever the T/S turn out to be, it might turn out to be a turd since there is absolutely zero actual engineering or design going into the parts selection. The moral of the story is your plan is not a good one. Even if the parts fit together and you're able to assemble a working subwoofer, it doesn't mean the driver is going to be any good. Good parts on a good motor with zero engineering going into the design does not mean the results are also going to be any good.1 point

List updated. We are at 118 tickets sold!1 point- understanding components
1 pointBeaming will occur when the frequency wavelength is less than or equal to the diameter of the cone. Make sure your units are the same: wavelength(cm) = 34029 (cm) / frequency (hz), so: Beaming Frequency (hz) = 34029 (cm) / diameter from Sd in cm Sd being T/S value for surface area of cone. IE: Exodus ex-anarchy driver: Sd: 131cm^2, area circle = pi*radius^2, so squareroot(131/pi)=radius=6.457, radius*2=diameter, 6.457*2=12.9cm 34029 / 12.9 = 2638hz So this driver, or any other driver with the Sd in the same realm would start to beam around 2638hz. If you know the cone diameter in inches then you could also do 13397 / diameter(in). Ultimately you'd want to be using measurements for the cone, and not the overall diameter of the driver. IE: Exodus ex-anarchy driver cone diameter = ~5", and OD is ~7" 13397/5=2679hz, 13397/7=1913hz That's a significant difference. ------------------------------------------------------------------- So a rudimentary answer to 8" mid and 6.5" mid would be: 8" OD, so let's say the cone diameter is 7", 13397/7 = 1913hz 6.5" OD, ~5.5", 13397/5.5 = 2435hz1 point- * Benefit Raffle for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital *

Thank you guys for Bumping this. I kept seeing it when I was mobile and couldn't donate. I went to pin it for that reason and realized it's pinned. As you post, please keep bumping this to the top of the "View New Posts". Sean, if karma exists you deserve some serious blessings. Most people would focus on helping themselves and not using the energy to help others. I am also sure many of us here read the thread and want to reach out to help Lucy, not just your benefit to St. Jude. I know I sure do.1 point- * Benefit Raffle for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital *

We already give $20 a month to St Jude's. It is one of the charities that we feel is worthwhile. We will also purchase a ticket on Friday, and if we are fortunate enough to win, we will donate the item, and said proceeds back to you to give back to St. Jude's. Best wishes for you and your family. I mod a couple forums and own a forum myself. I will share this in all forums I can. She is a cutie pie. Congrats on beating the odds thus far. I am certain this little darling will provide you with happiness beyond your imagination.1 point- The SSA Yukonvict XL edition
