more of a service review,
4 pointsso i had a small issue with my sundown NS-1 i contacted chris at DB-r using his web page, it has a very nice chat log tool that issues you a service number, and then keeps track of everything said and your info and service number, chris responded very quickly, and was very helpful and gave a quote to repair my amp... on a SUNDAY!, then at sunday at 9pm he was still responding to my messeges .. great! monday morning i sent my amp off. he recived it tuesday and he let me know it arived, and told me to give him two weeks ... so i did. three weeks late i emailed him to check the status and he informed me he was just getting on to email me,. and that my issues were bigger then i first thought,. tunrs out i had some mosfets not working, i was thrown back at first because i sent it in for a RCA jack problem, and not a playablity issue...... he understood and explained to me what exactly the new issue was, and also took detailed pictures of my failure areas and sent them to me. after understanding that i needed to have more indepth work done, he then gave me a few options, 1 to fix it correctly and the most expensive way. he also gave me a second option.. to save me money he would repair it with out removing the board ( extra labor) and it would be WAY cheaper but he could not promise there would be no other issues, but that it would prolly be just fine... i opted to repair the amp correctly , he repaired it quickly and shipped it back to me with the quickness,. from when i sent it off to when i have it back in my hands it has been less then a month... and i am very pleased. all and all im glad that DB-r is around, and i will always use them in the future. and i hope you do to.4 points

That's not gonna do much good if the resin seperates from the steel. Stick a pry tool between the roof and fiberglass. If you can make it peel off its not gonna last.2 points

my roof is soo thin the weld will just burn right through... and i know kyle i took it out tonight just gotta see if putting on the pulley is the only problem... not sure if it messed up anything when the pulley came off.. You need to find a better Welder. My Miller is rated for 3/4" and I can weld a coke can with proper sized wire.2 points

Sub Choices along with everything else when buying new products help
I really don't think you will hear a big difference in them. Also you probley wont be able to get the proper box you need to slide in a trunk. (if your thinking 8 cubes can be in there that means its not going to be able to slide in and out) ..if your thinking about a 3500 or 5500 you will NEED to upgrade your electrical with at least a ho alt and huge batt minimum or your going to have to buy new alt/batt anyway cause your stock will die... I think you would be really really suprized with just one of them 15s on maybe 1k+. The box is what is going to be your big difference so DONT cheap out on materials and a good design2 points

Trust Winisd Alpha?
1 pointPorting doesn't affect high frequency extension, at those frequencies the behavior is essentially the same as a sealed enclosure....the difference is a ported enclosure generally has significiantly more output on the bottom end so the high frequency subjectively appears comparatively lower due to the greater difference in output levels.1 point

Welcome to the IHoP v.2
1 pointWell the viper is more my preference. I was trying to be non biased.looked at those too, but i think the Porsche fits me better. awd, turbo, small and handles like its on rails.. With a driver that actually knows how to drive the gen three viper tear the the 966 a new one on the track. Although the GT3 will give the viper a workout if its not the ACR model. But that is what the car was designed for. For the track. They are two completely different driving experiences. If I was going to be driving through town in traffic going to work I would want the 911. If I was cruising on the weekend with a little track time now and then I'd take the viper hands down. Hopefully ill be back in a viper by Xmas this year. itll be my DD so i think this is the best option between a cayman S or an m3.Cayman is teh boring, 911 would be a good daily driver, but so would the M3. Coming off of what you drive they will all seem heavenly.1 point

Goal and "list" don't at all match. Absolutely idiotic to choose power before the box and goals. And without both of those NO ONE can help you "pick"1 point

1 pointI love the fuck out of them. I don't remember what years, but there was a few that had problems with a leak. The 996 is maybe one of my favorite years especially by look.1 point

If you're coming from a JL 500/1 and a single 12" Arc sub in a sealed enclosure you sure as hell don't need two 15's to get LOUD in comparison. Also as already mentioned a pair of 15's in a trunk isn't going to be easy to build and will likely require the enclosure be built in the trunk. It doesn't sound to me like you have the experience necessary to take on a build of the proportions you're aspiring to and have it come out anywhere near optimal. That being said, I think you would be VERY happy with a pair of 12" Fi X series subs, SSA GCON's or even some Fi SSD's in a properly designed and built ported enclosure on a 1500 watt amp. It will be less expensive for the equipment, will be easier to build and implement, and won't require the sheer support in the electrical department and sound deadening that a 3500 or 5500 watt system would require. It will cost you less money, gain you some experience with doing the building and installation yourself, and still get WAY louder than what you're currently using. That's just my .021 point

Wifes Turn lol. 12' Gcon or Fi X
1 pointWho do you think builds SSA subwoofers? Fi does So you are going to be waiting the same amount for an X or a gcon. That being said they are both an upgrade over the IDQ and for less money.1 point

XCONS
1 pointNice mini review. They will hit even harder once they break in a little more. I have to start over when I get my Xcons here, since I've been running those Zcons. I'm almost going to hate to give them back. Had some Japanese guys hear them and they were in shock, so that should amount to a few sales with SSA product. Other than that man, put some videos up, would like to see that set up you running. Sounds wicked in there.1 point

?????? You ask questions with no information on what or why you want to do something. What you ask will lead you down the wrong path. ALWAYS start with a description of your goals, budget, potential box size, etc. Helps to type in sentences and English that is easy to read. All the ???? just makes you look lost and makes no one want to respond, this is compounded by the lack of information you shared.1 point

you can't find a welder to weld metal to your roof, this will eliminate the need for wood and bolts.1 point

Did you just fiberglass the mat to the steel? When it turns summertime that laminate will seperate from the steel from expansion. I've already learned the hard way. Just make sure when you finish the install that you will have access to it so you will have the ability to reattach it with liquid nails or epoxy.1 point

Thanks guys it was fun. I will be going back to a single 15 and maybe 2k watts. I bought a 72 Chevy C10 shortbed that will be getting some love over the summer. Who says doing a wall will destroy a vehicle? lol I had the entire build removed in 2 hours yesterday morning, then last night had the entire stock interior back in the truck in about 3 hours. Demoing bailouts in the morning and cruising 4 people last night. LOL1 point

There are several lower volume levels on your head unit that could also help preserve the structural integrity of your vehicle..... (Not that I believe you will even remotely explore this option)1 point

SA-8 V.2 SPL Enclosure
1 pointI would do something around .5-.7 cubic feet for spl Tuned around 35 Hz for more spl, but 32hz would be more resonable for everyday. Either way would be a good setup and you won't be dissapointed.1 point

I thought you was gonna just stretch the top top of the box out with some thick mdf? Then like others said, shoot up some foam for the area between the wood and the actually roof.1 point

Meant the front windshield Shizzzy. Most vehicles I have seen adding a stripper pole blow them out easier. Think about it, the air wants to get out somewhere. If the roof doesn't move & is stationairy, the windshields seal is weakened with the pressure being forced more there. Jamy's tracker didn't blow his windshield out until he added the pole. He started to destroy the doors after that as well due to the same reasons.....air wants to escape somewhere.1 point

I have some very thick mat that will add a good bit of rigidity to the roof to keep it from flopping around anymore. We have done this on multiple cars and it has worked great. My initial plan for the roof was to utilize already existing nut plates in the center of the roof.. IIRC there are 3-4 1/4" bolt holes then attach to floor somewhere. How many layers of mat and resin do you typically use? the stuff I have is pretty thick, maybe one or two layers.1 point

how exactly are you guys going to fiberglass and pole the roof? What is exactly the plan on how to do it? IF you do what senchez said, i would highly advise to drill holes in the wood that would then be the new roof all over the place(prior to installing it, lol). Then you would buy some foam and inject all the foam through the holes to prevent the wood from slapping into the roof. I even seen your A pillars moving.. I don't know how you are going to attack everything but good luck.1 point

OMG!!! That phucking roof sounds like shiiiiiiiiiiiit lmao. Thats puking insane Tim. I can definately see a 60 in that thing man. It is eating that thing alive. What I would do, is put some wood all around. Like, stretch out the box sort of speak. From the top of the box, all the way to the windshield with a pole to the floor, wood panels in the doors, and that should do it man. great job. Hope you can make it to Indiana in June for Slamology.1 point
