  1. Not to mention it has shit ass products installed in it. It is now worth nothing because of that install

The Evil is a different breed of sub. I know every time I am listening to good music the Evil just starts hurting my ears and trying to tear my 4runner apart!
  5. Looks like I have me a new (old) toy to work on ... a 1949 Ford 2 Door Custom Sedan !!! I know, i'm primarily a Chevy guy, but this one I just can not resist ... These are my dad's favorite body style cars and he has always fixed them up origional ... Not me !!! It has a Flat 6 in it now that runs great, so we plan to leave the drive train stock until we get the body and interior up to par ... Just not sure yet as to go with a Ford or Chevy drive train ... guess it all depands on what I can find to fix her up with at that time ...
  6. which vvme are those 1000watt or 800watt? Like the videos phatboi. First one was the best nothing better then a system walk through CLEAN AS HELL on the install specially the battery bank and the ground pounder! nm found out 1000watt.
  7. WinISD can model the response of each driver in each alignment, though it does take a little time to input all the T/S parameters. It's not so much "should" as "could". Since speakers are dumb and only do what we tell them to do in the environment we choose to make them do it in, it's still going to work and do it's job. Given all the conditions are right it CAN perform better in the optimum enclosure size than in something smaller, all those conditions dictate what that difference is. For example, in a trunk as small as yours the gains from running the sub in an optimum sized enclosure could be negligible compared to the 1.75cuft enclosure, or it could make a bigger difference than it would in the back of a Suburban per say. I'm no acoustic engineer and quite frankly, while I have seen, read and somewhat understand the way to figure for all that I'm really not capable of doing it. WinISD will give the response of each of those drivers and alignments but only for a given set of conditions and one thing I can tell you now is that those conditions do not match that of the trunk and cabin of your car, or mine, or anyone elses. Vehicles have what it called cabin gain on the lower frequencies due to how the air pressurizes in the small environment. WinISD doesn't account for any of that and what you see on the graphs will in most all cases not match what it really does in real life in a given vehicle. Which like many others is where I find myself, just trying to figure for the most of what I can and hope for the best. It sounds bad, but how many people really figure for EVERY variable, or even can? As for the PR's, they take the place of the port. The passive radiator is basically another sub but without a motor or voice coil. When the active sub moves the pressure changes in the enclosure move the cone of the passive radiator. By adding weight to the cone you can tune the frequency the PR resonates at and therefore tune the enclosure much like you would that of a ported enclosure. The pros are that the enclosure is smaller than a standard ported enclosure as it only needs to be as large as the NET volume is required to be and you get the same response as a ported enclosure. The cons are that it's not a BIG savings in space in most cases, it can be difficult to find space on the faces of the enclosure for the PR(s), and they're more expensive since you have to purchase the PR(s) as well as the active sub. The power doesn't really change anything as far as the enclosure is concerned.
  8. I mean, the 12" ICON could be used in the enclosure I mentioned, but it sure won't be running at it's optimum performance capabilities. The 10" ICON could definitely get to it's optimum performance. The 12" ICON sealed may really surprise you. There's been plenty of SSA customers who've used the ICON's sealed and had no complaints on the output. Another, more costly option, would be to go with a passive radiator for the 12. Though I'm not sure how much good a PR setup does with only one PR matching the driver's size, but it would be another possible option I would think. I'm currently working on one for a 10" XCON for my Jimmy. I'm just listing the other options because I'd hate for you to get the ICON and not enjoy it.
  9. Its a POS GM vehicle, you couldn't pay me to drive that thing. I'll stick with driving around in my "tin can"
  10. Now this is cool ... (quoted from CA-F) Absolutely ...
  11. That is awesome. Added to the bucket list, restore an old car.

  13. Gotta be some high school joke or something.
  14. Little more progress. Ready for carpet and lining on the inside.
  15. This is where we are at now ... Behind Dad's shop on blocks. We have the brakes completely tore apart waiting on parts ... we are going to completely rebuild the Master Cylinder and Wleel Clyinders and replace the rubber brake lines. From what we can tell, the "hard line" brake lines are fine ... For now Will I ever replace the drum brakes with power disc brakes ??? Yea later when I have the time and money. But for now, the drum brakes should work just fine ...
  16. Interior ... Well, there isn't any ... LOL What do you think about our temporary gas tank ?? It works !!! As soon as the primary things are done to make this a running / driveable vehicle ... This will be my first place to start rebuilding and customizing !!! As you can see, we have plenty of room to work with when we get ready to set her up for stage and image !!!
  17. She has a 6 volt charging system that will HAVE to be changed to a 12 volt system before any Electronic modifications are done to this vehicle ... This motor will crank up and run great !!! Just needed a hot battery and a gallon Jug of gas ... We drove it to the work location !!! To date, My dad has restored 6 of these cars (I worked on most of them as a kid) ... He has 2 left, the one he is working on now and this Black one. It was bought about 12 years ago to be restored and for the most part, work has been done to it, but put aside SEVERAL times for other vehicles ... He plans to restore the Blue one, but has no intrest in selling the Black one. So, he gave it to me so it would stay in the Family. Over the years the car has been cranked up and moved around in the yard and has been driven up and down the road a few times, but for the most part, sits under the old tree in dad's back yard just waiting for someone to give it some TLC ... We've taken a hot battery and a jug of gas out into the field and cranked up his old cars for years !!! Now all of them are gone (primarily cause of his bad health) except the two 49 sedans ... I'm sure down the road that I will end up with both of them but I am definately not wanting to push that issue !!! He wants to see them completly fixed up and restored before he dies (his words) ... But I have plans to customize mine. Just to see how it turns out ...
  18. Apparently when I reply to an email with something along the lines of this: The factory is a little backed up due to the huge spring rush. They are working as fast as they can with out sacrificing quality. As soon as we have an update, we will update your order status. It means email me back everyday asking the same question on order status.
  19. Wow, I go out of town for an alumni event for the weekend, and BLAM! It should be obvious why I don't say what our costs are, but yes, they are drastically more costly to build our sub woofers here in the USA then overseas. It is a mixture of comical and frustrating when competitor's sub woofers that are built overseas. As mentioned earlier, there is few aspects that really effect our build costs that others are not doing. The CNC machining of motors/poles is a huge portion of our build cost per sub woofers. Many brands will just use nuts as spacers between the motor stack and the basket, but our sub woofers are using spiral axis cooling channels on the pole. This does a number of things for superior cooling of the coil, but that is a different topic, what maters here is the time and cost on the CNC machine for each one built. Because of that extra care, time and effort, it cannot be easily done in mass quantities. Also, when not turning a large margin on our products, it means we have less to play with when it comes to expanding our company. It does piss me off when some fool says our products are over priced, they truly haven't a clue and need to be slapped. People have been asking me for a number of years now why we don't have amps or a full line up of mid's and highs etc. This is because the standard now is for someone with no audio background, to just call up a build house overseas, use a credit card and a pre-order, and TADA with in 18-24 months they have a full line up of sub woofers, amplifiers and more. I don't want our brand to be like that. Sure, our growth has been much less rapid as all the new offerings that show up every year, and sure Mark and I are not putting anywhere near what we would like into our pockets due to the higher build cost and much lower volume of sales, but we have near-ZERO warranty failure, a very strong return customer base, and the assurance of one of the highest levels of quality of materials and performance from our sub woofers to every customer that picks SSA for their sub woofer needs. We are trying to take the superior, long term thinking approach to these other brands that show up out of no where, as there is much more time and effort invested into each and every one of our sub woofers. It means we are not killing it in the bank account or hitting the golf course in the middle of the day, or expanding into new major markets overseas etc.. One perfect example, was the beautifully explained break down of the Xcon above. In short, the CNC machining, the addition of a shorting ring (long coil, so inductance was brought down a little) and the much more steel used (instead of a simple triple stack), creates a better sub all around and that is a powerful piece of mind. It is a very good thing to know and to have, even if we are not making much from each unit sold. We run with a very low overhead and keep our expenses to a minimum. Having our sub's machined and built here in the USA (even using steel from California), just does not matter to the masses anymore. The wildfire virus of the American consumer, is the extreme short shortsightedness and only seeing initial price to them, and not the long term. It is more then about keeping more of the money from the purchase price here in the USA, it is also understanding the higher level of quality and performance they are getting. We do gain a number of customers who had a shorter then liked, life span of their prior sub woofer that was made overseas. So in short, to sort of answer the first question, the factors that go into the costs of our products: place of build (USA) {cost of labor etc.}source of materialsquality of materialsquality of partsextra steps taken for better performancethe details in many of the modelslow volume salesmade-to-order production
  20. Looks good, jealous of the air tools.

  22. Welcome to SSA. I am in Baltimore.
  23. From the photo's, it appears to just be cosmetic damage from shipping.

For the Icon, we wanted to bump up the motor strength with the new model, we could add a shorting ring down the road after sometime and modeling/testing etc. with an updated version. But it will only add more machining time and more cost to an already VERY costly to build driver in it's respective market segment, for factional gains in lowered inductance that customers have not shown any signs of wanting yet. The Evil plays so flat and clean as it stands, it does not need it. Side note, the Evil needs less juice to get up and rolling from the start then the Zcon. It is unfortunate that sound quality is an after thought for most buyers. Which I am sure is why the market is more biased towards spl. I would love to see Klippel results for all SSA drivers That would answer a few questions some folks have like myself. Just because the market does not demand the SQ I prefer, that does not mean in the slightest we over look it or ignore it in our sub woofers. In general, SQ biased sub woofers, usually need greater development time, higher levels of accuracy in construction due to it that part of the market being so spec driven, tighter tolerances, etc. etc. etc. All leading to much higher build costs. With that said, the internet market is blindly ruled by RMS ratting relative to price. Hence why our original Gcon approach was shelved due to the pricing having to be up in the Icon range. We do have Klippel test results from the original Icon, but that machine is no longer in unbiased hands. Would much rather have Sean (///M5) with access to superior testing equipment be sent some models for test results, but then again, that would cost a good chunk of money we do not have to spend.
  25. Really do like the matte blacked-out mod's.
  26. They will not run out of stock that fast. Crescendo placed this mega order for PWX's back in August, so that is more then enough time for the factory to build and ship to him, but clearly there has been some shipping issues. We are checking with Navid constantly for the orders through us, as it has cost us orders and created some very pissed off customers (read: lost customers) at us when we can only go on the info Crescendo has provided.
  27. Where did you send the email? I am mostly caught up. Your order will require additional shipping to Canada, but the sub's will ship out from NY. Mark has been out of town for a few days (where your subs are), his flight home has been delayed a few times. Soon as he is home, he will catch up with any questions that were sent to him.
  28. Had one of my better weekends. Got to hang out with Neal and Ronda, went to an O's game with friends (they won BTW), got to rest a little Sunday and was still up to date on most all SSA things. Just wasn't able to make it to the gym or cut the grass at the house I am trying to sell, oh well try again this weekend coming.
  29. You are the guy that buys the two small pepperoni pizzas for three bucks more than the large even though it is 15% less food. you are the 1 of the guys that scares away the potential new customer with your attitude problem Because he is trying to correct wrong information while being helpful?
  30. Pup spotted! Austin, fun car for sure. I would highly suggest some sound deadening for it. From my experience, it makes a world of difference in those cars. Also, stay on top of oil levels and tire wear, if you don't already know that.
  31. Overall I am very please with the result. It took me around 20-24 hours of hand work, measuring, cutting, using the sewing machine, making patterns, failures, stitching. Used : white and black polyester thread, real leather from some dead animal, scissors, shaving blade, 3 needles, glue. *optional : patience, good taste, the internet
  32. It has been a while. The most major change I've done recently is wrapping my steering wheel with genuine(or real or whatever) leather. Then hand stitch it with white thread to match the car and other parts of the interior I am about to change. Test piece Before What happens when your hands are slightly wet Making holes, no thread in the needle First piece done Making a pattern for the more complex shapes Connection stitch with black thread. It will be will be touched more, and if it was white, after a while it was bound to get dirty.
  33. If by "extremely meticulous" you mean we expect T/S parameters (which describe the behavior of the loudspeaker) to be reasonably accurate so that we can actually use them for their intended purpose, which is to accurately predict the behavior of the loudspeaker and just as importantly predict the behavior of the loudspeaker in a given enclosure......then yes, I guess we are "extremely meticulous". When you release T/S parameters that not only lack mathematical consistency but are also completely illogical then yes, that's sort of a big deal considering the purpose of the T/S parameters and the simplicity involved in accurately measuring them with today's technology. If you don't understand their use, the usefulness behind being able to accurately model a loudspeaker and understand it's behavior through the use of T/S parameters......then you are missing out on a pretty important part of the subject.
  34. That doesn't happen here anymore. He abused his privileges and then they were taken from him.
  35. I kind of like SSAs skar section. It is the only place on the web that potential buyers can see the truth.
  36. kevin posted the new baskets on face book.... and i comented " wow.. i bet of sundown started putting cock on there subs so would skar" ..... it got deleted but its true... what ever jacob does shit head just back doors his ideas.
  37. I love it when Skar introduces a new product or updates it with info on here, becuase you guys just tear the guy apart lol it's hilarious. I don't know why he would post incorrect info when he knows right away you guys will point out everything that's wrong.
  38. no doubt if you ask him a technical question you will be ignored... and if you ask on a public place other then SSA your post will be deleted !
