Inverted Subwoofer
2 pointsIf you have two subs in an install and one is inverted and the other is not then the polarity on one of the subs has to be reversed so they are both acoustically in-phase with each other and pressuring the cabin at the same time. If two subs are installed and they are both inverted, then the polarity needs to be reversed IF AND ONLY IF that keeps them in relative phas to the rest of the system. Really you should always check phase and verify if being wired in-phase or out of phase places the subwoofers in relative phase to the rest of the system. The only time the inverted sub MUST be wired out of phase is if there is two or more subs in the system and not all of them are inverted. Push-pull mounting in a common chamber cancels even order harmonics produced by the subwoofers since the asymmetry in the motion of the cone between the two subs should be more or less equal but opposite. Unless you are talking about isobarically mounted subwoofers, which is another can of worms.2 points

PSI Platform 3 Recone from Fi Car Audio?
PSI will ship you just the recone so you can do it yourself. Then the price should be alot lower when you do it yourself.1 point

My 12 inch DCON died
1 pointIt's as much box dependent as it is power dependent. I don't recall a post on what enclosure the sub is/was in, but as I did post before the amp has no SSF (sub sonic filter) so if you have it in a ported enclosure tuned to say the upper 30hz region for example and were playing tones or music below that frequency it wouldn't take much power to drive the sub beyond it's mechanical limits and cause this kind of damage. Even if it were in a sealed box, if the sealed enclosure was way too large or if it had some leaks the same issue can occur. It all depends on the suspension on a given speaker, but I've had some 6" speakers that you could easily destroy mechanically (ramming the voice coil into the back plate, running the coil completely out of the gap and hanging it on the top plate, tearing the surround or spiders, things of that nature) on only a few watts of power at those kinds of low frequencies in free air. When you play music, tones, etc. on a sub in a ported enclosure below the frequency it's tuned to the enclosure is no longer helping to control the cones movement. Far enough below tuning and it's pretty much the same as free air and it sure doesn't take too much for some drivers to destroy themselves mechanically. Now, given it's lasted a year in these conditions, the suspension has held up and it obviously has enough room in the motor to keep from smacking the voice coil into the back plate. The problem is running it like that, making it pull on the tinsels where they attach over and over again, like taking a piece of solid wire and bending it back and forth for awhile, eventually it will break. What are the specifications of the enclosure it was in? Give us every measurement and we can run those measurements and verify what the volume and tuning of the enclosure is. My money is on the enclosure being tuned high and with no SSF the sub was unloading in the enclosure and finally gave in to the stress. As far as the fix, it should be reconed to repair it properly. I've gotten lucky over the years and repaired a few drivers by resoldering the lead back onto the voice coil wire but that's few and far between.1 point

1 pointI'd go to Nordstrom's first. I wouldn't buy anything, but I'd get fitted for shirts. Grab the gayest looking sales guy there and see what he can find. If they can't find anything then I'd try Brooks. Not sure where they are outside of Maple Grove though, yuck. What do you consider to. Be the best materials, brands, and colors for business? I need to start suit shopping soon. J Off the rack it is hard to beat Joseph Aboud for price/quality/comfort/nice looking fabrics. This fit most men fine and can be taken in if you need a slim fit. Slim fit doesn't mean you are skinny either. Just that you want the shirt to come in closer along your sides and not blouse as much. Kalvin Cline makes an OK shirt. There is a new line from his products that are nice. I just purchased a few and will update you. But once again price and good fabric there. The most recommended shirts off the rack I have read online about are Ralph Lauren and Brooks brothers for the "reasonably priced". I have ended up at Men's Warehouse most frequently because of their buy one, get one sales. Great clearance prices too. On Friday I got 6 nice shirts, 4 ties, 2 wool pants tailored up, a couple tie clips, and a pair of casual shirts for about 650. Why I am even looking for a better shirt is because I can afford it, it would be more comfortable and one shirt that fits properly will outlast the off the rack ones for me. With the constant pulling in the back I bust seams and pull the weave of the fabric long before the shirt should have been worn out. As for fabricks, pattern and color are yours to choose. Or have the best dressed person there pick it out for you. Fabric materials make the most difference. Island/Egyptian/pima are about the best actual cotton. The weave of the cotton is another personal choice. Some are more durable and some are lighter and more breathable. Your hands and eyes can tell you that. My opinion is if you get a solid color shirt it is nice to habe a sheen and or texture. Another reason I am a fan of the Joseph Aboud shirts are the solids habe a nice sheen and herringbone pattern. I believe it would be considered a twill weave. I'm not completely fluent in the weaves as it doesn't matter toooooo much for me. If I find someone to make bespoke shirts for me maybe I will have to learn something when I choose the cloth, but for now I can touch and see what I like and don't like rather than communicate what swatches to show me.1 point- 12"Q's or BL's and what options 6th order BP?
Absolutely the only reason for a BP in car. For your needs 6 > 4 so nice work. Only problem here is that it MUST be designed for the driver being used. Change the driver, change the design. That being said you can model the difference.1 point- best 4" coil
1 pointa better questions is WHY are you so hung up on only looking at 4 inch Vc subs... haveing a 4 inch coil have 0 to do with getting low... and it can not be power handling because you stated you have yet to pick an amp.... so why a 4 inch coil? do you have something to prove with your coil size1 point- Welcome to the IHoP v.2
1 pointhttp://zoom-moving.com/ is my company. I'm just your average car guy, I love the 60 too.1 point- best 4" coil
1 pointT/S parameters describe the low frequency behavior of the driver at low power. That includes amplitude, phase and time domain behavior (overshoot, ringing, etc). What they don't tell you is, for example, how the parameters shift as power is applied or about distortion related behavior. If the parameter shift is audible and different between the drivers, or the distortion behavior is different in a significant way, it would be entirely possible for two drivers with nearly identical classical T/S to "sound" and behave different at listening levels. That said I don't know enough about the differences between these two particular drivers to say how their performance might differ in those two particular criteria.1 point- 6 SSA GCON'S in 4th order on 2 Soundstream XXX 6500's

Ok guys got some videos to post up of the Jeep playing.1 point- PSI Platform 3 Recone from Fi Car Audio?
Hoping that NDMstang would chime in. This is the quicker way to get an answer back on a Sunday by all means1 point- best 4" coil
1 pointAnd it's a ridiculous question because each of those woofers were designed for different purposes. If you gave more details on your install it would be easier to help narrow down your choices.1 point- best 4" coil
1 pointRidiculous question, even more so because all the ones you listed are made by the same company.1 point- My subwoofer arrived broken

1 pointJon, I'm going to come at you absolutely straight. I hope you don't hate me. You both have an unknown medical condition and more down tinightmares you think. This is both the cause and effect of your poor sleep and diet. My guess is you don eat nearly enough for the amount of time you work. If you don't get a full straight 8 of bed time compounded by your night terrors you are basically not sleeping. With that lack of sleep you will have a hormone imbalance at minimum. I have been where you are 3 times now with the doctor and other BS problems. It is what it is, but I know exactly how you feel. I have no idea how big you have been but when I was at my heaviest I was about 450. No one knew it because I could run and jump and work just as hard as the next guy. But that weight alone is a health problem. I only have nightmares. And had/have sleeping problems I will expand a bit more when I get in front of my PC. I have to try and drive home without needing to call a wrecker to pick my sorry POS up. :-)1 point- anyone know if they changed the xcon?
1 point- Inverted Subwoofer
1 pointPurely cosmetic. Sometime people do it because of space constraints & if they have multiple subs it can allow them to make the enclosure a few tenths of a cubic foot smaller. Not sure what you mean about trim ring. Most subs have a gasket that functions correctly both mounted regular & inverted. Some subs do, however, have the basket design in such a way that inverted mounting isn't easily accomplished.1 point- Setting gain on BC3500. Clipping or not?
thats what i figured, ill just snip the light so i dont have to look at it.1 point- Setting gain on BC3500. Clipping or not?
I always set the gain by ear. Has never let me down. Between my 6 systems and the numerous times I've set te gain I have never blown a sub or had any failure. Same with me tuning all my friends systems. You just have to be smart and use your senses to identify the stress on the sub or subs.1 point- budget amps.
1 pointlook into the precision power ppi black ice series, they seem to be doing well. Also look at woofersetc.com, that's where I got my Cadence from.1 point- budget amps.
1 pointNone of the brands you're looking at are going to be over rated enough to make an audible difference. Likewise none of the amps people brag about being under rated are under rated enough to make an audible difference. Reliability, features, size and possibly efficiency are about the only things you really need to concern yourself with when amp shopping.1 point- budget amps.
1 pointThat isn't really a concern when looking at "budget" brands, honestly. Between the inherent losses suffered by all systems you'll almost never see full rated power from any amplifier. The best question to ask is if they produce a clean signal and are reliable enough to do so until you can afford something better. In the case of those three brands, I don't see why not.1 point- How would my amp preform.
1 pointWake up bigjon, he's using a AP 1500. Your amp would perform even worse at 0.5ohm then at 1 ohm, although I don't know what you mean by perform. (it won't take abuse like this)1 point- recone
1 pointNot having the time to compete myself, it is awesome to see a great guy do so well with our products.1 point- My 12 inch DCON died

-1 pointsHmm....I doubt it.Came out of Randal's mouth not, mine. "I'll have to talk to Ray about it". Just to put Randal's comments on phase compensation in perspective. The class in Physics you take after Classical Mechanics is Waves. Both follow exactly the same set of rules. Describing things in waves is obviously over the head of 99.9% of the public, so I'll move to a more simple and straightforward analogy from Classical Mechanics which I alluded to above. Gravity. Most people know it exists and at least have a rudimentary understanding of what it does. There are situations you can create to avoid gravity. Just google how they train astronauts. So the preface of not always having gravity 100% of the time is feasible. The same can be said about phase compensation. At a single frequency for a single point in space it isn't so hard. Change space or frequency and it becomes even more difficult than gravity correction. By Randal typing his truck is phase compensated it is exactly akin to saying I am able to defy gravity at ALL TIMES in ALL PLACES with my truck. Reality of the situation is that there is no place it will ever defy gravity. Same wih the phase. It will never be compensated at all points in space (flat out impossible) and at all frequencies (no processor available to my knowledge has that power). Of course, then by saying he'll have to bring it up with Ray I can assume the source. You can doubt what you want, but I guess we could clear this up by asking fo r the source although I don't care as either way it is flat out wrong, impossible and shouldn't be cited. Wherever it came from, whomever it came from is either an idiot or a manipulative ass that is trying to make $$ by confusing those that don't know. And please, ask ALL the frequency related questions you like. It is rather right up my alley. If something is unclear I'd be glad to explain it to you. Just because it might sound subjectively good now, doesn't mean it couldn't sound better I've got some other issues with the install. But I'm sure Randall is happy so I figured it wasn't worth the argument.... I know what you are saying. Several years ago when my supra was doing 440hp at the wheels it was pretty fast. I gave several people a ride and they couldn't believe how fast it was. Fastest car they have ever been in. That summer at a supra event my buddy in GA just finished his. Was doing 620hp on the dyno. I went for a ride and it was a different world. Got back in mine and it felt broke lol. Needless to say I upgraded mine soon after. That was around 2006. I think I'm on upgrade #4 and now its in pieces in the garage again. Exactly. And not unlike Impious I left out a ton of other obvious things that can help, but if my recommendation were followed it would benefit things GREATLY. And for those with the "just listen to it" comments. That is seriously laughable. I have listened to pretty much every driver in the Madisound, PE, Solen, and ... catalogs. Including tons that have never made it to market. All in environments way nicer than a car. So yes, not only do I understand scientifically what will happen but my ears have experienced it as well. Exactly why I will not be attending some simple car audio event. Compared to sitting in Ray Kimber's, Dave Wilson's, Jim Winey's, Orfield Lab's and other listening rooms I've been in there is not anything in car audio that will impress me. What baffles me is EVERYDAY I want to learn more, but the attitude of some of you that come on here with the high and holy this product is the shiznit is absurd. Install is everything and all Imp & I are doing is trying to help. Stop taking it personally and open your ears.-1 points- Song List With Hz Range.
