MY point is you are pricing an unknown. We have nothing to go by other than a few specs and some pictures of a prototype. You walk into a car dealership and the salesman tells you, "Come look at this brochure of this new model we have coming out. You can get it for $15000 if you preorder right now. It's red, has a 4 cylinder engine, and gets okay gas mileage, but we don't really know for sure because we've only tested the prototype, but we're pretty sure and can give you all the specs once we have your car." I'm sure you realize this is a tough sell. As I stated before, you have to understand the skepticism. We have little to no information, not even photos of each individual driver, nothing. You literally showed up one the storefront and forum in one fell swoop, with no information. This is the age of information. I'm a prospective buyer. I see your company and your product, but there's no info about your product. The photos are all of the same driver (a prototype obviously) taken on a wooden bench next a Mountain Dew bottle and you want $300+ dollars. Why should I take that risk? I can make two more clicks and purchase a well know driver from a well known company for the same price and know exactly what I am getting without risking my hard-earned money.

All the parameters play a role. Xmax plays a role, as does sensitivity, as does overall Q. These all affect the overall ouput potential of a driver and must all be taken into consideration. Now, if you are willing to be objective and narrow your choices based on something like the last octave before resonance, than the Xmax parameter may very well outweigh the others. But you need to look at it objectively like this and not make the blanket assumption that this is true over the entire bandwidth of the system, because this simply isn't the case... Eminence used to supply sensitivity curves over the driver's bandwidth instead of one asolute number. This made comparison much easier... It is too complicated for many people that just want one number, but again, it is objectivity like this that really helps you make an informed decision...

ABS is one I have seen before, and I doubt it is. They usually don't have that darker body color. J

You really aren't going to gain much. There is no correlation between high xmax and SPL.

sweet stuff brother, can you explain the skip shift better then what i have read with google? and what does deleting the rear o2's do im guessing it curves the mixture to be richer at the plannum ?

Did the same with the viper. Both skip shift and rear o2 shut off.

If you are suggesting this about SSA, then i suggest you get your information correct. They are LUCKY if they make $15-$20 per driver. You know how much Sundown and Skar and the other companies are making using chinese labor and parts? Five to ten times as much. Now tell me who's hoarding the profit. There is a reason our economy sucks and you don't see US made products much anymore. People want cheap shit and they want it right now. I never should have said any of that, I was just frustrated with the whole situation I was in. I sold my RE XXX v3 reconed wth FI parts to buy a zcon from the classifieds here and received a blown sub from a bad seller. I devoted to keep that XXX driver forever for a HT project, but instead wanted a new setup. (addiction) The seller reimbursed me for a recone, but still had to endure this wait. I received my recone on Weds. and its doing work for about an hr total playtime right now. Wow guys. This is a really great driver, great parts, all around A+. I'm sorry for the negativity, but my next purchase from your store is a hat and shirt cause the SQ and loudness is out of this world. Proud to own fantastic products made in the USA. Bassink recomended the Torres box calculator to me a while ago and Ive had really good luck using it.

So if I have SP4 coils in my subs will that make them perform different than standard BL's?

We can still recone them..but we just did a very short run of them for test marketing purposes of the sp4.

I do not want some random ass sub made of 15 different parts. I want something the wonderful engineers at FI have constructed, tested and approved.

you could always customize your cone and tripple joint and coil with another 4in coil and make your own 12 using FI motor basket and cone just may have to find a well made 4in coil to take off and put it behind your 12 cone. as your own prototype? just a thought

I have been wondering about my 12 inch BL subs the last few weeks. I got them re-coned about 6 months ago and I have the fully loaded BL's with 4 inch coils. I am wondering if the 4 inch coils were no longer available since last year what was used for my re-cones? SP4 coils? Nick can you chime in?

Ohms law, coil is wired in series..more turns in the gap with a D2 coil than a D1 coil. A dual 4ohm coil will end up with about another 50% BL across the D2

The preorder is null and void. Those that have purchased have been reimbursed due to the much longer than expected lead time. The price is being re-evaluated. I can say that the 12 will not be over $350 with shipping. Keep in mind the motor in these weigh 50 pounds. I can only gaurantee stock under certain circumstances. Power wise I don't know how other companies come up with their ratings. The Ethos as well as any other transducer that I manufacture will be loaded into a recommended enclosure (the ethos 12 being 1.5 feet tuned to 32 hertz and the 15 being 3 feet tuned to 32 hertz) and subdued to a Klippel power verification test. The test involves the driver in the enclosure subjected to a 24 hour run on a amp capible of 5,000 watts rms. during this time the analyzer moniters things like coil temp, excursion, impedance, internal box temp, distortion. The analyzer automaticity adjusts gain when the driver reaches limits like a specific xmax, coil temp ect. Once this test is complete then I will have a comfortable publish rms rating.
