  1. Here is just a teaser pic, testing will begin soon. Specs and info will follow soon after. Just wanted to get a pic up asap due to being very excited about it because I have been waiting for it 6 months.
  2. Haha, I just replied on CA.com saying: If sealed is the direction you want to go and that is the power you plan to run, I would suggest checking out the Xcon if you are leaning SSA. Not that the Icon is bad sealed, far from it, just that the Xcon is a little stronger sealed. Yep. Caught the response lol. I'm not set on sealed or ported. Lol hispls and I were talking about a crazy aperiodic enclosure with two vents tuned to different frequencies, but I don't want to make my box builder have an aneurism trying to figure it out. Both the XCON and ICON look like extremely fast subs from what I could pull up on YT. I suppose I'm just a little overwhelmed by their ratings seeing as how the ICON sits right at what my amp is capable of doing and the XCON exceeds it. Just want to make sure that they won't be begging for more power if I give them less than rated, that's all. What do you mean by fast? Like Zoom Zoom? I am not the best resource on ABC boxes. As for power rating, don't sweat it too much as it is not at all a requirement to match rating of subwoofer to output wattage of amplifier. The Xcon does not need gobs of power to sound quite good sealed.
  3. They don't need a lot of power but can take it, I ran two xcons on 200w each and they shook my cobalt pretty well. Don't get caught up in rms ratings.
  4. Your amp doesn't HAVE to put out 1500 watts. Just listen for stress and pay attention to your sub and you will be fine.

I've always been curious about SSA's subs. You just don't see them run an awful lot. There are a lot more out there then you think.
  6. Damn nice work on the BGE Neal.
  7. Looks fantastic Neal.
  8. Do they have to be directly on top of each other or can they be directly side by side? Or Maybe with 4 of them in a 2x2 grid patern? Directly. Side by side would be the worst
  9. Teasing people like Incriminator. You know that ain't right.
  10. That's awesome. Where in the lineup are you guys intending it to be placed, or is it replacing a model? Also, if you want a fair independent review, I'm your man! LOL
  11. looking good, im looking at maybe an X-15 for my next purchase.
  12. So I figured since the BGE got new speakers, it might as well get a make over. Sanded the stand down and stained it. Natural Teak. Don't mind the crap in the back ground.
  13. Okay, a great update!! Monday I ended up not having to drop the pan to fix the gasket. When I unbolted the front axle it only fell about 1/2" with the steering bar still in place. That extra 1/2" afforded me enough room to get the pan down far enough to reach around from the passenger side and get it back in the groove. Once I was satisfied the gasket was in there good I cleaned up the front of the pan/block/timing cover and siliconed it. I then put the pan back up in place, torqued it down, and left it sit so the silicone could set up. Yesterday I went out and put the remote oil adapter back on the block and the starter back in. I put just enough back together to be able to start the truck and check it for leaks. I started it up and let it warm all the way up to operating temperature, then did some small engine revs and let it sit and idle again for a few more minutes before shutting it back off. I'M BACK IN BUSINESS!! There wasn't even one drop from the front or the back of the pan!! Today I'm going to go out there and get all the little stuff attached back to the pan and get the front axle mounted back up. Then all I have to do is get the hood and the front skid plate back on it and I'm good to go!

This is the best way I can explain why. I live in a very very small town. The type of place where if you do something wrong as a child your parents and grandparents know about it before you get home. My family name is a good one and we are known to help out as much as possible. It isn't just a better ploy of doing business. I believe it's a better way to live life and I'm much happier and prouder when I can truly help other people. You can ask anyone that knows me personally that it isn't just a front, it my way of life.

as capital allows I'll be purchasing 10'' and 18'' baskets. I will also have a 10'' cone body retooled to get rid of the awful gap between the surround and basket. We will see how these work out and I;ll go forward with stuff after xmax. I have a TON of parts and drivers already ready to be built. I want to keep it simple .there will be three levels of subs. one with 10mm xmax, one with 20mm xmax and the third which is the Ethos. All these will have the same performance goals and type of sound as the ethos just lower power handling due to lower xmax capabilities and of course lower prices. After that two niche driver are ready. One uses the same motor as the Ethos but will use an 8 layer coil and be ~3,500 rms and the big Magnetar which will be north of 5,000 watts rms. And I have begun working on Korean ODM amps to match the DSS subs. And just like the DSS subs they will be cheaper by a great deal than the competition while containing quality parts. This is beyond my set skill so Nick will be in charge of choosing the best performance to cost ratio. The sample will then be independently tested to verify performance by John Levreault of Orvelle Technologies. Once production on the amps begin I will be purchasing an Audio Precision analyzer and each and every amp will be given a birth sheet before they ship to the customer.

Tuned in Jon. Looks good. I hope they get the rest right for you QJ. Glad you're liking them. It'll be nice to see QJ succeed.
  17. puffah, come at us, seriously. I'm not on the tech team but you just put yourself in a position that implies that you have seen history in the making to it's present day in all fact. Well, let me school you here on some things. #1 - THD Levels. For one, you want to sit there and compare RATED specs of power output.. Stupidest thing you could have said in your intelligent post. So if i had a 3000w AB amp and a 3000w D amp, AB - 0.01% and D - 1% D just gonna suck? Full of shit. I don't normally call someone out so extensively but if anyone else reads what you posted, you will destroy car audio even more. The reason why it is full of shit is because you are implying the THD levels are set in stone. FALSE. IF you start clipping the shit out of the AB amp, guess what, THD increase... IF you turn the Class D amp down a HAIR, guess what, THD decrease... It's the SAME thing as comparing a well known company vs a cheaper quality company who BOTH makes and can compare Class D Amps. Some companies rate at different THD levels but ALL amps can attain levels far below 0.1%. #2 - THD Audibility- This is taken straight from Wikipedia- THD is an average of a number of harmonics equally weighted, even though research performed decades ago identifies that lower order harmonics are harder to hear at the same level, compared with higher order ones. In addition, even order harmonics are said to be generally harder to hear than odd order. A number of formulas that attempt to correlate THD with actual audibility have been published, however none have gained mainstream use. Decades ago, like when you first started the setting in your post. This is the same time era you are talking about in your first post. #3- Everything today is shit and everything back then was so much better in terms of sound quality. Yea.. If that were true, then why is any company still in business? If car audio equipment as a whole was so pathetic, then why is it such a large hobby? You honestly think NONE of us today in the ENTIRE WORLD have a single clue that one speaker maydoes sound different from another in different installs and environments? ANY HOBBY is DIY and in ANY HOBBY, you research and gain knowledge then experience. We all know what can and will sound good and we know what can and will get loud. Just because car audio competition isn't 99% SQ and 1% SPL doesn't mean it went to shit. It means it has EVOLVED! You guys didn't have SPL back then and you clearly answered why. Well guess what, since it evolved, now we have SPL. IS SQ gone? No. So why isn't is such a big thing anymore? Because SQ competition is SUBJECTIVE. When people compete, they compete and expect fairness in judging. You can get that without variables with dB meter. SQ Competitions are typically done via multiple judges ear. That's not accurate. 2nd, let's say you don't compete but want good stuff. MANY OF THOSE COMPANIES you named in the past, Seas, Morel, etc.. still exist today and put out great quality equipment. And 2 companies aren't the pinnacle of audio either. There are many more. So this is what i get from your mega post- You are STUCK in the 80s-90s era and refuse to either comprehend or attempt to jump back in the hobby and keep up with research. And don't tell us people were so much louder back then then they are now with less power, etc.. The Mics back then being used were inaccurate as hell. Audiocontrol, LinearX, Original Termlabs, etc.. They have all been discarded in competition to the present day. Audiocontrol and LinearX were used for, get ready for this.. Sound Quality measurements.. They weren't pressure sensors like what we use now to measure high SPL levels and if any of those companies DID use a pressure sensor, it has been proven over the years that they arewere inaccurate. We have Sound quality measuring devices today in use.. and are still the hardware of choice in Sound Quality competitions over old school hardware. #3 - Our speakers not used in home audio. Well, why the Hell would we want to do that IF building a serious SQ setup? Again, back in the 80s-90s era again. Although some companies DO in fact have some subs that were equally well in both environments, you should not interchange the two when looking for the best setup. That's more common sense knowledge then anything. Many things have happened since the "old school days of competition". Many changes have been done to shift the way things are marketed. I do not agree or like some things that have happened but they are solely not because companies decided to start making shit product and winning off it. The American market wants what they want for the cheapest. So companies make cheap lines off their name while those who know what they need, get the higher grade under the same name or a different name. Just because some companies make shit product does not mean that's the pinnacle of today's standards, lol.. That's EXACTLY what you are trying to imply and it's bullshit 101. The OLDSCHOOL brands then are NOT setting standards in today's market. That may be your argument partways because you say they are making shit now and are winning off it... Well, to those brands.. they aren't making it.. they sold off all their shit to China mostly. But don't bring Car Audio as a whole down completely because Orion or PPI or Rockford, etc isn't the best anymore... FORD was the first auto.. Are they the best today? No. So should all the people in the world stop driving cars now because Ford isn't the best? Think about that for a minute. You'd be surprised at what all has evolved from the last 30yrs of audio to what it is now. Ecstatic would come to mind based on what all you have missed. And it just keeps getting better.
  18. It has to be the DCON or GCON because the ICON and XCON have a second gen, and clearly it isn't a ZCON or an EVIL. At least that is my take on it
  19. Nothing really. Creator of Nirvana! Haha no, but seriously. When we launched the first model, we named it Icon but we were so happy to have a sub woofer, we did not really think too far down the road on model name expansion I guess. I'm guessing you came up with "evil".... that red sweater is evil.... and cruel....
  20. funny story .. the person who got refunded for a recone said he would take a side by side pic of the burned coil next to the NEW coil but that never surfaced.

yes it did move a bit,.. and one of the other cups came unglued from the board .. so it was able to move around, but not much, yes the scratches on 2 out of the three were a shame to see on such a sexy sub, that black chrome is a huge plus on the sub.. and for it to come out of the box already scratched if i wall i will be inverting them BTW
  22. Almost like a funky pup. This post was meant to be funny.Sorry
