  1. No, the rms rating isn't a thermal rating it is the recommended power for the driver to reach xmax in their recommended enclosure. The enclosure you need to be well over 3 cubic feet tuned extremely low to hit xmax with half power. I'd love to make more money off you with the 4 12's but I honestly think the 2 15's would be better in your situation.
  2. Haha thank you sir!! I will write a better response in a moment. But sub level was on -9
  3. We where at it again today, playing around with some woman's fleece and children's fleece SSA jackets and shirts today, what do you guys think so far? Emily Orologio was kind enough to model for us to show them off. Post opinions. I can't wait to see what my little (almost 2 yr old) son will look like in his new hoodie. The hunter green fleece is for Aaron's son. Getting our families gear'd out.
  4. Even though I have been in this industry for nearly 12 years I am a competition NOOB!!! I'd like to see some type of competition section. I easily view this site twice an hour daily! However I find myself going to other sites to find info on comp rules, ect. I'm sure it would be very beneficial to a lot of people here. Maybe Mark and Aaron could even get with the owners of the leagues and get them to set up league sections here to help inspiring competitors. I'm sure it would help greatly with traffic on the site as well.
  5. From all the years of randomly meeting idiots with the lack of any knowledge, showing or even playing your setup for someone is not going to win over many retards out there. They'll always say something exactly like this- Yea, oh man.. That was loud. My uncle (or who the hell ever they name) used to be(it's always used to) into car audio and he competed(of course, the whole world must have competed as well back in the day) and blew out his windshield(just like a tornado. That should be a bible story.) So to prevent themselves from looking dumbfounded, they manifest a highly exaggerated story on how something happened(which never did) that would put your system to shame. You can't argue with idiots so I screen people. IF i think or believe they are 100% retard, they will not be privileged to listen to the setup. These are the kind of people that are not curious on how you built it or how loud it gets but just to joke on it because they do not have the ability to comprehend anything new in life they come across so they dispute any and all facts of knowledge. This is full retard and again, nope, not privileged. So pay attention to who you talk to because these people will spread information so twisted that it could make any brand look very bad.
  6. My answer was always 'why not? A friend owns the company, the product kicks ass, and the cost is reasonable.' J
  7. I was talking to someone the other day about ssa. They said the prices were way too high until i listed a few prices of other companies for subs with similar rms ratings. I also mentioned prices of some comparable subs that are local around me, after all that, he said the price wasnt that bad. What really hurts is that the price of the shipping is added into the cost and people do not pay attention to that. That makes them look at other subs in a similar price range but they do not pay attention that those subs do not have the shipping added into the price.
  8. haha, glad you made this topic, might push Aaron along to get it done faster
  9. You should visit a production plant in Asia once, you'd NEVER ask that question again. And regrettably that is what I will be doing in two weeks.
  10. Just in case no one has seen, Don over at SDS is having a sale as of 10/20/2013.
  11. The Ethos motor is specifically designed for the weight of the 15 inch cone. The cone of the 12 is weighted, we actually have BB's encapsulated with CA glue under the dust cap to compensate for the less weight of the 12 inch cone. And the spider pack is tighter on the 12 for the recommended ~1.5 tuned to 32 hertz box. So, don't expect more output from less power compression by going with the smaller drivers. Power compression was around 2.25-2.5 db by the time the coil reached normal operating conditions. For reference this is pinned in the Klippel results. Being you only have a 3,500 I'd go with the 2 15's
  12. No prob. i love what you are doing here on the forum and where you are taking your company's products.
  13. I shared your facebook link on my page.
  14. Nightshift in the garage, with my trusty helper:
  15. Below is BigJon's quote from the other day. I guarantee you will not find another driver of this caliber at this price anywhere. rest assured he did.... you may have to be of a certien age to understand im about im to say .. maybe not... but IMO ... for the price to performance and quality of the sub.. you can till hes not doing it for money... but rather the love of the product...... ill elaborate imo. any other company would charge ALOT more for this sub .. alot. and they would get it.. no problem... and they wouldn't even have spend the 2 years DSS did researching, planing, tweaking and modeling that DSS has..... only a man that has a deep passion spends as much time and focus on something only to damn near give it away truly has a deep passion and love for the hobby we all love. im truly shocked and surprised out of the performance these subs are giving, im telling you guys im beating the shit out of them.. im doing everything you should not do to a sub if you want it to last.... and its taking it..... the few that know me can tell you .. i dont lie, and i dont sugar coat shit.... these subs are rated at 1800 i think... im running a NS1 on them DIRTY AS SHIT!!!! my gain is almost all the way up, with a touch of bass boost... and my head unit is plus 2 on my sub stage.. im not only clipping the piss out the subs.. but im over powering them too... if thats not enough im also unloading them about once a day..... i play them until they get stinky, and when i touch them they are so hot the dust cap is soft!.... and they keep trucking.... im very impressed. and i have ran plenty of high end woofers.... im talking double or more the price per woofer now keep in mind im in no way telling you to buy them and do what im doing to them, i straight up told DSS that i will need re cones before i ever installed the subs.. because what i planed to put them thru im doing to this so yall can rest assure that your buying a good product ... i know what its like taking that leap of faith on a new or un heard of/ un proven company..... but i like doing it... know that i also bought the first run of subwoofers sundown ever had... shit was scary.. but i was glad i did.. and i still have them. i can say this... i have ran the almighty BTL N2 ... and i prefer the ethos over them.
  16. Come out of my "time off"? I think I might. 4 12s in SB3 sounds like a good class to play in next year.
  17. you sound bored, build a new box, .. a better design and tune lower. it will be like a whole new stereo
  18. At this price, averaging shipping charges, I am making less than $5 dollar profit. This sale is all about getting them in the hands of people active in the community and hopefully have them have as good as an experience with them as Jon has.
  19. i don't think they even know themselves on what is good for the new line up
  20. 1 point
So i did some math on pricing for our drivers here on the site. I took in all drivers that would be in the same rms class as us. Havoc-12 379Skar zvx-12 419Sundown z -459IA DP- 459Icon 12- 349 Average price of a 1500w rms 12 is $419 Our MLD series is priced at $335 shipped. Tomorrow i will be doing the other sizes to see where we stand. I know it still might be a risk to try us out but Mark and the gang believe in us and i think you guys should too.
  21. I would like to see who is giving the negative or positive rating! Not just letting a person vote without you being able to say something back to them!
  22. People negative me because they love me
  23. -1 points
Then do away with both. My problem is somebody can go back and give negatives on anything you said.
  24. -1 points
I give you positives because I like what what you say. Not because I disagree with your opinion. Some people take it personal and give negatives because they can!
  25. cone area... yay!!!!!!
  26. This is my 1st hands on build in ~15 yrs, so go easy on me.LOL the intro is a lil long- but wanted to get the story in. I always like readin how and why builds come about. My son/s and I will be tackling a 18" xcon install in my 01 Grand Vitara, referenced to as 'Zuk for short. I bought this lil SUV from a friend with the intentions to drive it for a bit- then hand it over to my oldest when he turns 16 (in about 16 months). I have always had a lil bump in my cars, so it was inevitable that it happen to the Zuk. Alway ran typical box store systems, Alpine, Kicker, Etc. Just started to learn about SSA, Fi, Crescedo, etc about a 6-7 months ago- when I bought my Suburban- and started thinking bout 18's for it. I mean my Passat has a Kicker IX1000 and 2 15's and I thought it was pretty bad ass til i learned about this stuff. Been lurking here for a few months- trying to absorb some knowledge, so now to step up my game. Well- Bout 2 months ago my son asked if we could boom the Zuk. I happened to have some 10" GS Reds in my attic that I've had for a decade, and bought a soundstream 4 channel to drive them (thinking I'd use it for my mids amp in the Burb eventually). Bought a Ground Shaker box of an online car stereo site(wink). and a Scosche amp kit from wally world. My boy and I installed it all...bumps pretty decent. Forward to now. Was planning to swap the GS 10's out for some SA's or Dcons, so I was on the lookout for a mono amp to drive them, and saw 'W140' selling a Skar 1500. Not my first choice with their rep round here, but I couldn't pass up the price. Got the Amp- installed it this week here at work. (BTW I work 7/7 here in Houma LA- Live in South Alabam). Even on the crappy 6awg wiring, and the amp turned down, and at 2 ohms, those lil 10's woke up! Figuring the 300w max Redlines were short for this world at 1K watts, back to looking for subs. Well 'W140' done it again...selling a 18 Xcon D1...thinking I can buy this now and find another later to do 2 in the Burb- iwe came to an agreement, so now I have a 18" Xcon on the way! And of course I know the wiring has to be upgraded... Other items on the way: 75' 0awg cca wire(Executioner from Audio Technix) 20 terminals from sky high weather tight fuse holders w/150 amp fuses Hammer crimper for wiring OK, so, I took measurements, and went to working with winISD and sketchup(new to both, cool stuff though) that I conned our IT guy into DL'ing onto my work computer(LOL). So, this is where I am at. It isn't optimal- but it is ~6.5cuft, tuned to 31, ~84in of port, port is 18.5x4.5x25"long. Gonna take the entire cargo area up to the seat back. Going home tomorrow- Got my cut list ready for Home Depot, hopefully they'll cut the wood for me so I can fit it inside the truck.
