After The Extra Points, It Was A 151.
  2. Hello All! I was able to trick Santa again this year, and he kept me on the nice list. With some help from the gents at SSA, he brought me 2 new XCon 12s....WooHoo!! It's finally time for me to get building and put these suckers to use. This will be my first time building a box, but this creates a perfect excuse to buy more tools. I would like to reach out to you guys and get some experienced advice to help in my first quality build The car is a 2008 Pontiac G6 GT Coupe. It has the Bose Monsoon system, which isn't terrible for a factory unit. Unfortunately, all of the cars display features are integrated in the factory's HU display. For this reason I will be keeping the factory HU inconjunction with a line output converter. I'm using a LC6i now, but am open to getting a better unit. I know this is not ideal, but I do not like any of the replacement units offered, like the Metra. Here is my current installed gear list: Stock alt, Yellow top battery, big 3 with 1/0 wire, Audiocontrol LC6i, BC2000, 2 Type R12s, stock monsoon 3way fronts and rear 6x9s. The planned setup is: HO alt, 2/0 wire (already purchased), BC3500, 2 batteries, 2 channel amp and component speakers. I'm not sure weather to go 2 or 3 way for these speakers, as my front door is already built out for 3ways. Either way I have some time to work on that decision. Box Design: My current task at hand is to build the largest box I can fit through the trunk opening. I plan to fire the subs into the cabin, as my rear seats fold down easily. I have done a mock build, and the largest dimensions I can squeeze in there is 26Lx35.5Wx13.5H. I want removal to be easy, so the largest I would build is 25x35x13.5 as the Max external dimensions. This gives 6.6ft^3 gross. Calculating losses with a double front wall, .25 for port and .15 for each sub yeilds 4.74ft^3 of net internal volume. I am going to build a removable port assembly, so tuning is adjustable & I don't have to go through the process of building an entire box again. I have quite few question for you experienced builders/tuners: Is 4.74ft^3 a good volume for 2 XCon 12s? What is the ideal net internal volume for 2 XCon 12s? Should I double wall the face? I am building this for use with a BC3500 on good electrical. Should I build box out of hardwood (like Birch) or 3/4" MDF? I have no issue in working with either. I plan to face subs and port into the cabin with the port in the middle. Anything wrong with that setup? Thanks in advance for your advice here guys! I try to be thorough so I don't waste time & money redoing mistakes...DOH!!
  3. I recently aquired a brand new Sundown SA8v2. I talked with Thumper about a variation of an enclosure he built years ago for this sub, but after a lot of thinking, I wanted to do something original. Even though I have way more power than the 8 was designed to handle, I wanted to build a T-Line box. I built one years ago, and it sounded amazing. However, I didn't want to build just another boring rectangle t-line box that just looks like a ported box from the outside... So... I present to you my variation of a t-line box I threw together this evening. It took a couple of days to design it, and I thought it was going to be a nightmare to build, but it actually went together in under an hour. All I have is the one picture, but the glue on the top and bottom are drying as I type this, so, if all goes well, I'll be finishing the box tomorrow morning, and have it playing by tomorrow afternoon... Tell me what y'all think...
  4. DO THE FUCKING WORK
  5. Not the best vid. But got a small sample. My truck doors open hair tricks Are normally violent.

I don't see anything good by using a square voice coil. Round is the best way to go!I can agree with this, say a 2' round coil wouldn't have as much area as the 2' square coil.but I dunno lol. This was a random thought I woke up with yesterday figured some of the tech guys would have a little input on it http://www.goto-denshi.com/product-square-wire-melit.html square wire is better. Subwoofers with flat wire are already being produced, he is asking about square coils.thank you.lolIts all good this is a dead subject if it could be done/or be better it would happened by now

  8. The box design looks awesome, but needs a lexan panel so others can appericate your work.
  9. So what does $200 get you these days... Made a 4 hour road trip and gave him an extra $50 to meet me almost half way. So that comes to $125 per sub and these are as close to being new as you can get. All coils meter very nicely.
  10. I think so since I thought there were only dual 1's and 2's. If you only ran 1 coil each accidentally i don't see a .25 load on accident. I do see .25 on dual 1's on purpose though. good call. .. so. 5
  11. After seeing the box Dave built for grayta, I plan to build one similiar. I stole these from grayta's thread, thanks! Are the honecomb looking braces necessary in the corners? Ready for gear: FInished product:
  12. Really wasn't as bad as it looks. Only took about an hour to assemble. About halfway through I shot a nail into my finger. Luckily, it bounced off the bone and came right out...
  13. Great craftsmanship! But fuck that!
  14. G6 yum! going from alpines to xcons! wow your going to get a boner and have to get medical attention after you hear the orgasmic bass of the xcons!
  15. I have always found that if I spend the money on a good quality product there is no need to equalize or process the shit out of it

  18. Well, I've still not been able to find a place to mount that amp, but my curiosity got the best of me. I grabbed up those little old enclosures, put them on the same level aimed directly at me on the dash of the Jimmy and connected them to the 125.2 to do a little test. Holy shit. My initial reason for doing the test was to verify there wasn't something weird going on with the equipment causing some weird boost in the midrange because it's been pretty much impossible to completely EQ out. Even with the mids wired up and run active the response was much better I could still hear the ear shattering anomaly on the songs that were hard to listen to before. I was afraid there might have been an issue with the HU, RCA's, the used 125.2 who knows, but I wanted to be certain. So I disconnected the components and hooked up the little Logitech enclosures with the Faital's in them and set in to listen to a couple of the worst songs to be sure it wasn't an equipment problem. I set the DTA for the new little drivers up on the dash, set the EQ flat and set the HPF to 125hz to start with. Again, holy shit, there it was. Light, airy, open sound with no harshness. I played around with it for a bit and then I couldn't help it and started turning it up because it just sounded too damn good. I had to turn the crossover up to keep from feeling nervous about the output levels I pushed the Faital's to but even without hardly any midbass at all music sounded more like it does in the van than it ever had. Eventually I got in about half a dozen songs at the same listening level I listened to them on the components without ever adjusting the gain. Those Faital's are some tough bastards. I never adjusted the EQ and while I will readily admit it needed a little something just to kinda level things out I was more than surprised and pleased with the results. I can't say that I won't try to fix what is wrong with these components (if possible) but I'm really leaning toward yanking them and going a bit bigger with an 8" dedicated midbass and the full ranges up top. To anyone who's considered the Faital's as an option for the same application I can say that for the price and the performance they can give I can't see how anyone could go wrong. Their high end extension is phenomenal and except maybe for the most discerning ears will never feel like a tweeter would be necessary. That's enough of that but I can't wait to go play with it again! I have a list of songs to play on it.
  19. Yes, I do do my research. None of us have found any wonder drug or magic bullet. I have been working out WAAAAAAAYYYY too long not to pay attention. There is no wonder drug, only a few things that help little bits here at there. Nitrogen has worked for me and many countless others for pre-workouts, so products like No-Xplode and BuzzSaw are successful for a reason due to combining Nitrogen and Creatine. Burn caps are essentially concentrated caffeine to raise the heart rate to burn a few more calories instead of chugging coffee or soda. I take BCAA's with my gemma-protein, along with omega-3's for the joints and chromium picolinate to make up for not eating meats. No wonder drugs, or unverified or non-FDA approved or gimmicky crap.
  20. I think so since I thought there were only dual 1's and 2's. If you only ran 1 coil each accidentally i don't see a .25 load on accident. I do see .25 on dual 1's on purpose though.
