  1. Here is the deal, they weren't using any crazy materials that failed. The lead material has (had) well known and documented properties. Unless something was mechanically assembled wrong, which I doubt with FI, it is known what it takes to ruin them. If the rated current carrying capability wasn't exceeded then the problem was caused by a mechanical failure (over-excursion) which lowered the current carrying capability of the leads. When you get into the realm of drivers with that much stroke and that much force, you can do this. Bottom line, I honestly have not heard of that many subs failing this way. Think of how many they have delivered and have been abused without any issue. I just think it is silly to slap a % or number of failure rate on these when we know that only FI has the data to back anything like this up...
  2. For the money these seem to be decent budget subs. Atleast IMO anyway. I would like to try out 2 12's or even 3 12's if i have the space.
  3. Eric recommended a few different options. I find that pretty juvenile to jump to the conclusion to use a driver because he has stock in them. I spoke with Eric, asking for 3-4 recommendations for a 12" driver to be installed in a door in IB configuration or having 2 cubic feet to work with. I'm not saying that the AE's are a good option too, I'm just saying there's no need to fling mud at someone who has had such an enormous impact on the car audio hobby.
  4. I love my SP4's. Not to sound bias but my walled setup had the best mix of quality/spl that I have heard in a large setup. Really miss it now that its gone.
  5. I'll tell you one thing. They are going to get LOUD.
  6. oh you got your self some FI flame logs huh ?
  7. I'm definitely going to have to figure what to do to reinforce my door panels. Any ideas? Hehe you're building a ported enclosures right? 25 lbs of driver plus several more pounds in fiberglass on the hinges is what i'd be possibly be concerned about. strengthening the door panels isn't really necessary since the driver is in an enclosure. just make sure you secure the enclosure properly (i'd consider rivnuts and maybe some kind of rubber washer between the enclosure and door). i would still apply cld tiles, butyl rope, mlv, and ccf in the usual manner. obviously the mlv wouldn't need to cover the lower part of the door panel where the enclosure will be.
  8. This has Jared, Adrian, and/or Neal written all over it:
  9. For the record, I've done that with TrueNutrition's Soy Protein Isolate before. That description doesn't even come close to what it smelled like. Good god. Had to fill it with a water/baking soda mix for a day just to get the stench out.
  10. I think Jaime said it best:
  11. The EA driver you had chosen will blow that driver out of the water in ALL aspects. Eric S. must have stock in that company or gets a kick back. I take it nothing we discussed here, in PM or the chat sunk in if you are going to grab driver B just because Eric said you should. YOU really need to understand why you are doing things, not just go with this persons or that persons suggestions.
  12. Saying 95% of Fi speakers catching fire is due to user error is a pretty bold statement sir.
  13. Stamped steel plated baskets are showing up everywhere now! Lol. Thanks for the share!
  14. Perhaps we could be 95% sure?
